"According to the Securities Exchange Commission, ... 44 individuals and companies... received in total more than $6.3million and nearly two million shares of cheap insider stock..."

So that's why SLAYERSWINE got banned.

How many posts will get deleted from this thread?

Jeez, that thing reads like an Al Queda terror training manual.

2002-12-07 02:03:32 AM
Oh gosh, I used to do this for fun. The real measure of a troll is to see how big a thread you can generate from just one well-placed comment. Then back away and enjoy.

FWIW, a respectable troll takes pride in his work. Now, we've all gone over to alt.startrek and trolled, but I ask you, where's the challange? All you have to do there is post something that makes nearly complete sense, in trekkie land at least, 'cept for a few details that you completely made up. About 10 helpful nerds will jump in to let you know where you went wrong and cite the episode, title, and original air date. No, a true artist would go for sci.physics, or create an entirely new conspiracy theory. Man, I miss those days.

On the note of the last troll thread. I was kicked for 40 minutes after making a comment on the trigger happiness of the moderator. I was going to say thank you to the moderator, because he took out a comment of mine that made be look like a complete idiot. But then I was banned. Funny how things work out eh? Well, if it is the same moderator... Thank you for not letting everyone know how stupid I am.
Step 1: become a troll
Step 2: ....
Step 3: take over internet.
HAHAHAHAHAHAHA! YOU CAN'T STOP MY FOOLPROOF PLAN!

2002-12-07 02:31:55 AM
Whats a troll you guys?

2002-12-07 02:43:49 AM
Whats worse than a troll though is the "Troll Nazi" (TM) who throws the word around instantaneously upon reading an opposing point of view. You know who you are.

2002-12-07 02:49:57 AM
I'm sure glad I have been educated about trolls.

Now I will never respond to a post until I have located the poster's name, phone number, home address. And, of course, after I have contacted at least three people who can vouch for their continued existence as a person genuinely interested in sharing ideas on the internet.

Is this for real? I mean, who are these pathetic people? I think a photoshop thread is in order to answer that question.

Agreed, I will do that right after step 2.

According to this tome I in my library, trolls can only be destroyed via fire or electricity, otherwise they will regenerate.

Troll hunting sounds fun!! Oh, wait, this is an old RPG Monster Manual.

Damn.

JDJoeE,

I saw one of those last night. The same grin, the same long nose, the same four holes in his belly, but he was spanking his monkey. I took the stick and knocked the monkey off!!!

That article is full of lies! Lies, I tell you. It was probably written by a disgruntled Postal Worker. Stay in your homes! There is nothing to fear! Move along, now. Plenty of more interesting articles below.

Yead trolls and frauders are both evil, yet two different things. I use the term things loosely.

2002-12-07 08:46:03 AM
WHAT THE fark IS A TROLL!!???

2002-12-07 09:12:05 AM
HookInMouth92081:
i donno exactly either, but from reading the threads, i think it's a person that enters a controversial post for the sole reason to start a flamewar. that's just my opinion, so please don't flame me and start a long war about my political views.

Taken from The Subtle Art of Trolling...

"The WWW gives this as a definition:

troll v.,n. To utter a posting on Usenet designed to attract predictable responses or flames. Derives from the phrase "trolling for newbies"; which in turn comes from mainstream "trolling";, a style of fishing in which one trails bait through a likely spot hoping for a bite. The well-constructed troll is a post that induces lots of newbies and flamers to make themselves look even more clueless than they already do, while subtly conveying to the more savvy and experienced that it is in fact a deliberate troll. If you don't fall for the joke, you get to be in on it.

The following extract is from a broader expansion of the defining comments given above:

In Usenet usage, a "troll" is not a grumpy monster that lives beneath a bridge accosting passers-by, but rather a provocative posting to a newsgroup intended to produce a large volume of frivolous responses. The content of a "troll" posting generally falls into several areas. It may consist of an apparently foolish contradiction of common knowledge, a deliberately offensive insult to the readers of a newsgroup, or a broad request for trivial follow-up postings.

There are three reasons why people troll newsgroups:

People post such messages to get attention, to disrupt newsgroups, and simply to make trouble.

Career trollers tend for the latter two whilst the former is the mark of the clueless newbie and should be ignored."

Most trolls are entertaining (at least on this site). I did however recently recieve an e-mail about a troll that has come into a chat room I use often that is linked with the murders of something like 63 women lured over the net. I was shocked and amazed as the nick given to watch out for was one I had encountered befor and thought "seems like a troll to me". Just my 2 cents :)

2002-12-07 10:07:26 AM
Cornflakegirl: If you're talking about "slavemaster" he's been in jail for almost 3 years and it wasn't 63 murders it was 6. There's also a few other nicks people have been using in it's place, such as SweetCaliGuy4evr and ooosparklesooo88.

If they have trolls of mass destruction we might need to sic our tactical trolls on them so we can achieve troll domination of Fark.

Oh wait - already done :)

1. "people who are psychologically disturbed, and seek to feel good by making other list members feel bad."

*cough* *kinghorse* *cough*

2. "People who pretend to be what they are not."

Not fair. I aspire to be a playtime troll but I fail the applicability test. Can I join anyway ? I think I would make an excellent tactical troll also.

Troll types:

1: Kinghorse (because I saw him post one rational post, unfortunately), Seth Monroe.
2: "They use language that is carefully constructed to be subtly invidious. This language is designed to identify two or more separate groups of people, and encourage list members to identify the negative traits of those groups. This creates argument and dissent between list members."

I would never do this. Never I tell you. Besides, I only go for one side so I still don't qualify.

3: I have my suspicions. Happy Daddy. Gunboy. Others. You know who you are.
4: Drew ? (lol)

Everyone on fark is a troll.
I am the only non-troll here.

2002-12-07 02:39:10 PM
sometimes what people assume is a troll is just someone who doesnt post all the time and happens to have an opinion outside the majority...does that mean that because I dont spend all my livelong days posting comments on fark, I dont deserve to post comments at all?? I think naught.

go bucs.

Phil Hendrie is the ultimate troll of the radio waves. Unless of course Art Bell is a troll, in which case he is would win hands down.

2002-12-07 03:04:01 PM
Sessone--That's because some people are jerks. Post away, but remember that once you put that little screed out there, then folks will go out of their way to pick at it--it's the nature of the beast.

I'll freely admit my newbie status, and the first flame war that I got read was a lot of fun, because of the trolls. Good ones are rare though. HappyDaddy and Fb can flip around in a minute and become rational, sane, and serious, and then nasty, and funny in a moment. You scroll through the posts, you see the patterns, you read who you want to read, and you enjoy the show. Yes, we all have a little troll inside of us, waiting to get out, and push some buttons. Some are just better at it than others. And some girls' mothers are bigger than other girls' mothers...

2002-12-07 04:23:38 PM
Trolls make discussions much more interesting. Its always great to see a bunch of assholes take the bait on a troll. Makes me feel warm and fuzzy inside.
