SchlingFo, maybe you're right. But judging by your average American Farker, most people are positively panting at the prospect of war. I find it disgusting, and a clear sign of the immaturity and ignorance of an ill and unthinking society that does not care for human life. It's deeply sad.

2002-12-06 11:15:39 AM
Instead of going to the trouble of invading Iraq we should just hire George Lucas to whip up a CGI rendering of the war to watch on television.

2002-12-06 11:16:51 AM
I was active dut Army and now I'm NG. My roommate is in the Marines, and while I gave him shiat for a while for joining, he really seems to enjoy it.

I know the living conditions probably suck ass, as they did at Ft. Campbell, but a person knows, when they join, not to expect summer camp at the Y. That's why I could never understand how people could be so resentful about being there.

I'm not in any way trying to say you were one of the resentful ones. I did know people who hated it but still did their jobs well without biatching.

I guess the Marines is probably different from the Army :)

2002-12-06 11:18:03 AM
Twister is quite right.

Despite being enlisted, and having pride, and blah blah blah, It still sucks serious ass.

You want to know what I'm doing when my contract is up? Joining the Air Force. They live like farking kings.

2002-12-06 11:18:16 AM
Gator8387, whether you intended that or not, it's a very true statement that you made just there. This war is gonna be seen as pure entertainment for those people who are for it. It's sick. American society is ill.

2002-12-06 11:22:02 AM
Hey Jochem:

If they find WOMD, then I'm for the war, and I'll be over there slinging rounds downrange. And I guarantee it will be far from 'entertaining'.

2002-12-06 11:24:38 AM
Video warfare - we have cameras on the ends of our missiles!

THRILL as you watch limbs flying everywhere!

CHILL as you stare into the NEW IMROVED, OSAMA-FREE(tm) face of absolute evil!

LAUGH at the Iraqi troops running for their lives in front of the massive, slick American war machine!

CRY in honour as the National Anthem is blasted to the godless Iraqi citizens as the tanks roll through their villages!

2002-12-06 11:24:52 AM
Jochem,

Fark is hardly a good cross-section of America. For one thing, most of the people that post here at Fark are fairly literate to VERY literate.

A lot of Americans are only semi-literate.

Additionally, a lot of Farkers, regardless of their political/religious views, seem to be fairly to very intelligent.

Once again, this isn't representative of America.

Quite honestly, I don't really know how the average American feels about going to war with Iraq. Polls done by news agencies are generally worded very poorly, so they may not accurately reflect people's opinions.

It's usually a small, but vocal minority of extremists that are shown most often in the media when it comes to America. It's pretty much the same as how they always seem to show the small but vocal minority of extremists in Middle Eastern countries in then news.

Neither picture is truly representative of the people in the media is attempting to portray.

I find the fact that a limely dipstick, such as yourself, still doesn't get the whole Neville Chamberlain thing, and why Europe sitting on its arse, as usual, is not a good thing. So, continue bash America even though it provides the blanket of freedom the Western world enjoys. Maybe when Europe contributes 1/10 of what America does to protecting freedom, Americans will give a flying fark what you armchair pinkos think.

2002-12-06 11:26:49 AM
Pirate_Lad,

I don't believe we should go to war if we find WMD, but only if Iraq lies to the UN and tries to hide them.

They should be preparing their report to give tomorrow. If they disclose everything they have, then I consider this case to be closed (although I doubt our administration will feel the same way).

2002-12-06 11:30:02 AM
The funniest thing about the Iraq situations are the comparisons to nazi germany and allegations of appeasement.

Iraq is hardly out to conquer the world. It got its ass kicked so bad in the first war that it has no capacity to do so, even if it wanted to. There will be no waves of Iraqi tanks rumbling across Iran and Turkey.

It is a really dumb comparison, and people should stop making it.

2002-12-06 11:31:57 AM
Those wacky brits. The next thing you know they'll be driving on the wrong side of the street and calling french fries "chips."

2002-12-06 11:33:17 AM
SchlingFo,

I agree, if he chooses to disarm (assuming he does, in fact, possess WOMD) peacefully. That's great. But I'm not holding my breath.

I'm also concerned about what will happen six months from now should he peacefully disarm. What's to stop him from doing the exact same thing six months or a year from now?

2002-12-06 11:35:14 AM
SexOr,

Can you really blame people in other countries from holding the view of us they do?

They see people like George W, Kissinger, Ollie North, Reagan, and Pat Robertson. They don't see the average everyday American who is out there just trying to work and raise a family.

It's the same as how we're only shown the pictures of Arab extremists screaming and foaming at the mouth when the majority of Arabs are just trying to work and raise a family.

Actually, the funny thing is you rejecting any comparison because the situations are not factually identical. Look up "analogous" sometime. Does a country have to have intentions to conquer the world before they should be contained? Gee, that makes sense.

But there is an important similarity. After all Saddam is THE MOST EVIL MAN IN THE UNIVERSE(tm).

If left up to his own devices it's only a matter of time before he manages to buy a white cat. At that point he would be free to pursue his secret masterplans of building giant lasers to blow up the moon, flooding the western world with hard drugs, stealing two nuclear weapons and threathening the UN an so on...

What's to stop him from doing the exact same thing six months or a year from now?

What thing, exactly, is that? Other than trading potshots back and forth in the no-fly zones, he's been minding his own business.

I admit that he treats his people like shiat, but Iraq is a sovreign nation. What he does within his borders, short of genocide, is pretty much his own business.

2002-12-06 11:38:24 AM
You win BigAl and Gator. While it's acceptable to stop a madman from conquering the world, he should be left alone if he only wants to rule the middle east and kill the jews. I finally see the light.

This' is' one of my favorite picture's on the internet.

2002-12-06 11:38:43 AM
The fact is, the mess we have now with Iraq is a consequence of not dealing with Saddam earlier.
He began playing games very soon after the Gulf War, shooting at our aircraft patrolling the no-fly zones, and expelling weapons inspectors, which was one of the key parts of the surrender contract he signed, ending the Gulf War.
Yet we did nothing. We appeased him. And now it is going to take a big mess of a war to put it right, when it could have been dealt with several years ago, with a few ruthless shows of force. It wouldn't have necessarily needed a war to take care of in the mid-nineties.
Now we have to do something before he does give Al Queda a Nuke or bio-weapon factory. But it will be a lot uglier than if we did our jobs in the first place, public opinion be damned.

2002-12-06 11:38:48 AM
BigAl,

You forgot about implicating the royal family in a sex scandal :)

2002-12-06 11:40:04 AM
SchlingFo,

I was speaking under the assumption that WOMD are found. I should have rephrased my question better.

*cough*

IF we find weapons that violate the UN treaty, and IF the Iraqi regime were to give them up peacefully, what would stop the pursuit (repursuit?) of those weapons in the future?

2002-12-06 11:40:23 AM
Okay so anytime you refrain from attacking another nation and dropping 1,000,000 tons of bombs on it you are guilty of "appeasement."

fark it, let's just get it over with and use our nuclear arsenal, we can destroy the entire farking world 10 times over.

That'll teach the bastards.

2002-12-06 11:42:37 AM
Twister,

Saddam, believe it or not, is a stabilizing force in the region.

From what I've read, Hussein keeps Iran from having too much power in the region.

I could be wrong, and if I am, please correct me.

"While it's acceptable to stop a madman from conquering the world, he should be left alone if he only wants to rule the middle east and kill the jews. I finally see the light."

I have no problem with jews, but the fact is that about 2/3 of the world hates them, so if we attack everyone that wants to kill the jews we are going to have one big ass war on our hands.

Let the jews take care of themselves.

Military Acronyms I've heard over the years:

Navy: Never Again Volunteer yourself
Marines: My Arse Rides In Navy Equipment
Army: Ain't Real Men Yet
Air Force: Ain't It Reaaly Farking Obvious Retards Control Everything.

You also forgot

USMC: U Signed the Motherfarkin' Contract.

HAHA

USMC = U Suckas Missed Christmas

2002-12-06 11:51:28 AM
I think the best way for America to conquer Iraq is to have a cross section of Farkers (Farker's ?) try to teach the Iraqis (Iraqi's ?) on the proper use (uses', use's ?) of apostrophes (apostrophe's ?). This will surely cause the Iraqi military to commit suicide ('suicide, s'suicide ?) in all the confusion (confus'ion ?).

2002-12-06 11:51:30 AM
Hey, Mr. Ollie North was on Fox this morning and said that not a single Iraqi would die for Saddam, they would all just surrender first chance they got.

He said it, and it must be true! Ollie wouldn't lie.

What is the difference between a zebra and a woman in the military?

A zebra doesn't have to lie on its back to get stripes!

How could I forget that one. There's probably another slightly implausible one involving a guy with metal teeth and spaceships as well...

You win BigAl and Gator. While it's acceptable to stop a madman from conquering the world, he should be left alone if he only wants to rule the middle east and kill the jews. I finally see the light.

I think that sums up my problem with this. IMO, alleged intention isn't really basis to bomb the crap out of a country and opt for leadership change. Some evidence of these vague intentions might help. Such as troops massing on borders, build-up of realistic millitary firepower, etc?

I agree that Saddam is a highly unpleasant person, with a history of some fairly vile acts. However he has been 'blown up' into this comically super-evil figure, when he is merely one of a number of very unpleasant dictators round the world. The actual threat the guy poses is fairly insignificant outside of the mid-east.

As for the WMD argument a direct launch from inside of Iraq would insure the countries destruction and as for 'the giving them to terrorists' problem. I think there are quite a number of places they can be acquired from? Perhaps we should consider bombing Russia and the former USSR states as potential terrorist suppliers?

One other thing that sticks is this regime change rhetoric. I think that sort of intervention requires some unpopular and long term investment of resources, people, etc which certainly doesn't seem to be forthcoming in the wake of the Afganistan campaign. Bombing the crap out of Iraq then coming home 10 minutes after Saddam is dead is liable to cause some really nasty long term problems in the region, IMO.

Humorous moment from Gulf War I: One of the Brits is sitting on a sand dune in Kuwait and uses a sat. phone to call the Baghdad Hilton reservations desk. Asks to make reservations for 400 rooms for him and his mates for next Thursday. "We should be rolling through about 3:00 PM". girl on the desk hung up on him. Turns out they wouldn't have kept the reservation anyway.

Wow. It is absolutely amazing how little perspective Americans have. It's as though they have no memory and so are forced to repeat their errors over and over again.

What is worse, however, is that they seem proud of their little red, white and blue tinted microscope through which they observe geopolitical history.

That's one of the reasons why America is held is such distain by the rest of the world.

I sincerely apologize to those of you who live within the USA and do have some perspective. Your fellow citizens who live in the great American Dreamworld I only pity.

Not me, as far as I'm concerned they can throw down on whoever they want.

There is no way in hell Israelis and Palestinians are ever going to be anything but enemies, so they might as well go ahead and duke it out.

MC_500foot_Nietzche,

I hate to interrupt your monologue. Did you have a point, or an example or anything?

Iraqi's run

oh yeah, because they're bloodthirsty savages hell-bent on killing everyone with their huge scary weapons.

2002-12-06 11:59:15 AM
i believe if USA does declare war on Iraq, their new stratedgy this time is they plan on hitting actual military targets instead of weddings, chinese embassys, cows, goats and other such things.

2002-12-06 11:59:17 AM
This is why Britian lost the war. They should really stick to what they do best. I'm not sure what that is exactly but i'm sure there's something. Being stuffy perhaps.

2002-12-06 12:05:11 PM
"I asked them, 'What they were talking about,' and they said it was all right if you're a size one or a size 12, but if you are eight, nine or 10 - as most people are -- then there is a real problem.

8,9 or 10??? Most americans are not 8 or 9. We run 10,11 or 12 for an average.

2002-12-06 12:09:50 PM
Lost which war, exactly?

Out of the few hundred we've fought in I think we've only lost two or three.

Yup, they're all bred like that. They are fed from birth on a diet of pure evil(tm), Satanism, dead aborted babies and veal. Every day at school they train themselves for the day when they can rape and then kill white men, women and children.

2002-12-06 12:13:42 PM
Solo- The war they lost against a pitiful band of rebels and traitors. Where was that again? Oh yeah, America.

2002-12-06 12:14:02 PM
i have pondered these issues over and over again. i come up with 2 solutions that may work.

1. every country must destroy all its weapons. and as long as there are men the will be war, let everyone have paint guns.

2. valium for everyone!

2002-12-06 12:16:57 PM
Avixxen2- Not a bad plan. Personally though I think they should taint the entire world water supply with e. Kinda hard to fight when yer dancin'. Plus the whole "in love with everyone" thing that happens.
