(Detroit Free Press)   You know that store that sells offensive T-shirts? It's filed for bankruptcy. No, not that one, not that one either. The other one   (freep.com) divider line 112

Dude, Steve & Barry's is the shiat for jeans.

$5 for a pair of jeans that's lasted 2 years working with HCL every day.

SchlingFo:$5 for a pair of jeans that's lasted 2 years working with HCL every day.

That may speak more to your steady hand than the quality of pant you wear. HCL would be a bad choice to test the durability of the fabric.

You know that other company that makes bran muffins? No, the other one... not that one either... okay, yeah, that one... They fired a guy on Tuesday.

/wondering what was red-lit to allow for this gem

I also like Steve and Barry's. It's not the finest clothes money can buy, but for the price you can't beat their pants.

2008-07-09 04:02:27 PM
Only been in a Steve and Barry's once. But don't recall any offensive T-shirts. Did I miss some? Or is subby just an asshat?

That's true, but even the few spots where I have gotten HCl on them haven't eaten completely through.

My point was that they sell damn good jeans :)

Heh, and they just opened a store here in Vegas about a month ago. They picked a really bad location too, so I'm figuring this store will probably close really soon. Cool t-shirts tho.

The shirt I'm wearing in my profile pic came from Steve and Barry's about 2 months ago -shrug-
Fits well, looks decent, seems to be wearing well, and was cheap.

I like that store. I've purchased a few things from there and so far i've been pleased.

2008-07-09 06:04:41 PM
The shirts aren't particularly clever, but I highly endorse the shorts and cargo pants. I kinda hope they don't go under for good.

2008-07-09 06:04:43 PM
I guess it wasn't Snorg, then.

Steve and Barry's is my go-to store for clothing right now, since I'm struggling to get through my apprenticeship program. I only have a few more months to go before I get my first raise, then can start shopping at the more expensive places, like Target.

/love their T-shirts
//Has a problem with ripping the crotch out of their pants.

They better still ship my "I airplane New York" T-shirts in time for this years September 11.

Maybe if they bothered to sell their wares via the intertubes, they'd have made more money. Idiots.

Damn that's good. I used to get burn holes in my Old Navy's daily. I like to think they are "trendy" now with "designer rips and tears."

/plus the acid burns are always fun

Well, if they went bankrupt, she'd probably be open for a little quid pro quo, wink-wink nudge-nudge.

I've never been to a Steve & Berry's and have no idea where to find one.

There was an article posted a few months back stating that she took payment in shirts only. I'm sure a little tickledick and grabass wouldn't be out of the question with her.

I like how a bunch of guys are sitting at their computers discussing fashion and where they buy their trendy clothes.

2008-07-09 06:29:21 PM
I bought a gray Dork hoodie mocking York Peppermint Patties from there while I was in Seattle. They had some neat things, just had to look for them. Sad to see it go.

2008-07-09 06:29:35 PM
went there once, i was invited to a last minute dinner party with the university dean and needed some decent looking clothes. 18 dollars later i had a pair of pants and a button down shirt.

If I find a S&B when I'm traveling, I usually wind up buying an extra large duffel and load it up to take home. With three teenage boys, you certainly can't beat the value. Quality leaves something to be desired, but my kids are still wearing most of the stuff 3 years later (some handed down twice). The best thing is the kids get unique items that you won't ever find here in good ol' Bismarck, and they don't look like every other Sears/Walmart/Kohls kid on the block.

/especially love the university clothing

I think you're thinking of T-shirt Hell, and if that's the case, that t-shirt has been around since about Nov 2001. They've stopped making it, and occasionally sell the few remaining boxes of stock they have. Which is great, if you want that shirt in an XS pink or M purple.

2008-07-09 06:31:29 PM
You mean when the store is almost the size of a department store, uses floor space in an extremely inefficient manner, spends WAY TOO much on advertising by hiring people that their target market doesn't care about, sells crap, and charges almost nothing for said crap, then they have trouble making ends meet?

What's next? Joe's Match Shop's 10 boxes for $1 promotion won't work?

2008-07-09 06:32:34 PM
Hah, that sucks for them. The store smells more like cheap crap then walmart, it just has that new plastic smell which is odd because they sell mostly clothing. I know stuff costs next to nothing to make in asia, but you have to have a huge walmart or target volume to make $$. I think people don't trust $8 jeans when you can get a pair at another chain store for maybe $15.

Don't panic, guys. Chapter 11 seems to be part of the business plan for most US companies. It isn't a death warrant.

Chapter seven is the one to avoid.

TheGreyPiper:Never heard of them. Srsly.

Me either. I used to shop at spencers when I was like 14, but other than that, those novelty shops with the fart detectors and canes with mirrors at the bottom are pretty lame. If you think that's funny then I have a comedy CD comprised of fart jokes I will sell you for 20 bucks.

batsforsteadman:I was really, REALLY hoping this was about Hot Topic.

Yes, Hot Topic is pretty lame if you buy your whole wardrobe there, but some of my friends who have bands on major labels get their shirts sold there. So while they fishnet stockings and sweatbands are not really my thing, I would recommend buying band shirts there if they have shirts for a band you like, because it's not all slipknot and insane clown posse shirts.

The Detroit Free Press? Really? Do they even have a store in Detroit?

Replace "T-shirt" with "Auto maker", and you've got yourself next month's headline.

Or make your own. I had mine made, one of a kind and it's better than any of the ones you see in the stores.
