I can go with this. He was from a time where great male-style icons weren't little farking Nancy boys...

No Don Cherry?

Style icon? I have no opinion...but Cary Grant is the shiat, and Depp is pretty awesome (both have given truly excellent performances to truly excellent directors making truly excellent films)

Beckham? I heard he can kick a ball or something...whatever....

Cary Grant didn't have a scrotum chin like Depp.

Nobody can ever top Cary Grant.

Wasn't Cary Grant one of Howard Hughes' butt buddies?

Mike Rowe should win it.

RevMercutio:Now that's style.

That movie was on the other day (I Was A Male War Bride) - laughed all the way through it.

I've seen a bunch of his movies on TCM and FMC (love working from home!) - very stylish - even in the dress and horse hair wig.....

I don't understand why Depp is considered so stylish. At most of the recent awards show red carpets that I recall, Depp showed up looking like he fell out of a swingers wedding from 1981.

Really???

What it SHOULD have been:
1. Cary Grant

2. James Cagney

3. Sean Connery

4. Trevor Howard

5. George Clooney

6. Samuel L. Jackson

7. Michael Renny

8. Steve McQueen

9. Johnny Depp

It's due to the fact that even though Depp dresses like a hobo, he still makes the panties moist. He's a "style icon" based on the fact that women want to do him.

Ever since I saw Grant in Topper, I had a huge crush on him. I still have a thing for guys in suits. Mrowr. He beat out everybody, even Depp, on my list :)

I think many men would too. I don't get it. I've never liked him.

And Brad Pitt? What does he have to do with style? Also never liked him.

Will Smith? Orlando Bloom? This isn't a style icon list it's a gay man's fap list.

It's a survey from a British company that sells ties. Of course it's gay.

I dont understand the love affair with Depp, hes an average actor who has lucked into a few good roles but didnt really expand on them, besides hes made 3 of those pirate movies.

Anyone that does that must have zero self respect.

2008-07-08 08:25:43 PM
I read his biography by Marc Eliot, amazingly interesting person, even better an actor and oozes style IMH. I'm also a young farker at 21 years of age.
/Depp is also good, but his face reminds me of the "terror taxi" scene from Jackass 2

Hear Hear! Nothing is hotter than a man in a suit, especially if it's Cary Grant. :)

I can go with a tie between Grant and Depp, with honorable mention to Connery and Bogart (in white tux).

No, I'm not gay. Why do you ask?

2008-07-08 10:16:36 PM
I'm not gay, but if I were, Cary Grant would be the one. That man personifies style.

2008-07-08 10:30:25 PM
If you really like Cary Grant you must see him in "Arsenic and Old Lace". Even though he absolutely hated doing that movie, it's wonderful. Grant does a great job at slapstick and...well...he's great eye candy in it.

www.geraldpeary.com

For the Gregory Peck lovers out there: "Roman Holiday" should be required watching. Not only is Peck extremely good looking but it also has one of the most beautiful women to ever be on the screen: Audrey Hepburn.

/loves classic movie stars...especially Cary Grant and Jimmy Stewart

1. Cary Grant -right on

2. James Cagney -sounds famous-y, so sure

3. Sean Connery -oh HELLZ ya! should be number two!

4. Trevor Howard -who?

5. George Clooney -scratch connery. CLOONEY is number two

6. Samuel L. Jackson -snakes on a plane? reealllly?

7. Michael Renny -again, who?

8. Steve McQueen -effin right! baddarse!

9. Johnny Depp
-puh-lease. um no.

Michael Caine had a great line about Cary Grant on TCM:

"He created millions of non-slobs."

I'm severely disappointed in the lack of HOT Johnny Depp pics in this thread. *sigh*

Cary Grant has to be #1 because he's from a time when male actors were required to look good in a suit at all times. Nowadays, male actors can look like they just crawled out of a sewer if they feel like it, even at the Academy Awards, and no one will care, but back in the day, actors had to look sharp.

No one did it like Grant.

Yeah, there's your style icon. He may be a great actor, great guy, whatever, but he dresses like an idiot. In every "hot" picture you've seen, he was dressed by someone else.

OnmyojiOmn:Yeah, there's your style icon. He may be a great actor, great guy, whatever, but he dresses like an idiot. In every "hot" picture you've seen, he was dressed by someone else.

Well, yeah. He's an actor. Typically they don't make their own costumes. Cary Grant was more likely to dress like an actual adult on his own time, though, yes. As would, I imagine, Gregory Peck.

When I was a teenager, I watched every Cary Grant movie I could get my hands on. My faves..."Bringing up Baby" and "Penny Serenade".

If I could go back 60 years or so, I'd be the biggest groupie ever...

Cary Grant was awesomeness. I loved him in Arsenic and Old Lace, North by Northwest and An Affair to Remember. While I love the dirty hotness that is Johnny Depp, he always looks like a hobo.
