He was 'self-medicating' for a dental problem.

Dental problem, in England? I'm shocked. Shocked.

Well, Heath Ledger is in heaven now feeling better about overdosing on legal but potent drugs. I think it'd be truely embarassing to OD on H2O.

This reminds me of that fraternity that got busted out west for hazing a kid that died from drinking too much water. Good thing the article got in that he was lifelong Man U. supporter. That really helped me get the gist of the article.

/this was refreshing news?

Yes, drinking yourself to death with water is much more sensible than brushing your teeth. 20 years of gingivitis, even in the UK, is major league fail.

I like that guy's attitude.

Some ravers did the same thing because they were told to drink a lot of water.

Basically your kidneys get flooded.

Tragic Andrew Thorton? Guy was setup to die a horrible death by his pa - Calamity Joe(seph) Thornton.

So, we have two retards in the last year to die from water OD. That means more water for me to drink.

Yep, throws your electrolyte balance all out of wack and can cause your brain to swell. Sports drinks are not too good for you in terms of general hydrating, but if you are working intensely, particularly in the heat, you should cut some sports drinks with water in order to get salts and sugars replenished.

In general, you should never consume huge quantities of water. More than a gallon a day total would be strange and never really necessary for the average person.

I'm sorry, but that's an awesome cause of death.

I almost Darwin'd out this way 10 years ago. I was trying to get a job with AT&T and needed to pass a drug test.

Stupidly...after drinking one of the 'clean up drinks' and taking some pills, I decided that more water would help my test results (bad idea).

I drank about 3 gallons of water in about an hour or so. After I failed the test (learned later), I spent the rest of the day pissing out of my ass and feeling like I was going to die.

When will people wake up and realize the dangers of water?? When will someone think of the children??

/thank god for tech companies that do not feel the need to dictate what I smoke

The life-long Manchester United supporter suffered from gingivitis - gum disease - for 20 years and shunned painkillers as he felt that water was the best medicine because it numbed his mouth.

1) I find it interesting that the article decided that an important fact was what sport team he supported.

2) It just goes to show you, you can't always be your own doctor.

Basically your kidneys get flooded.

And then they won't start, and you'll wear down your battery (and possibly overheat the starter) trying to get them going again.

I drank a gallon of water in an hour once. It made me feel kind of high, quite a strange sensation knowing it was only because of water. Of course I peed every 10 minutes for a couple hours and, strangely, my gut hurt a lot the next day.

The coroner warned: 'It's funny because we are told to drink more water but it's not well-known that you can drink too much.'

Yes, hilarious indeed. This coroner must be a real star at parties.

That kid was at SMU in Dallas while I was there. He was in a coma for three weeks, but didn't die. Made it a helluva lot harder to drink alcohol on campus for everyone else from then on, though. Jerk.

Isn't it strange how you lose sympathy when they tell you that he was a "life-long Manchester United supporter"?

Now THAT'S a hardcore suicide.

Much more original than rasor blades, pills-n-vodka, gun in the mouth or jumping off a bridge.

Best part - it's harder for life insurance to refuse payout for water overconsumption.

iaazathot: Wow thanks for the PSA. I never dun new that bfor.

Personally I count this as a victory for Darwin. At 44 he's a bit old but if he still had sperm it wasn't too late to snuff him out.
