Rearden:EsteeFlwrPot:Why cant we force sterilization on stupid people again?

I've thought about this too. But as much as I hate stupid people, I reluctantly accept the fact that they have basic human rights. So forced sterilization is out.

Here's my plan: Offer a lifetime supply of cigarettes and a bunch of lottery tickets in exchange for sterilization. The beauty of this scheme is that it would strongly appeal to morons, while being of little value to intelligent but cash-strapped people (poor college students, etc.) who we want to reproduce. Plus the free smokes would hasten their demise.

Monkeypillow Quote 2008-07-04 11:11:31 PM

worthlessjuan:according to who, you?
Myself, and most every adult in my life. My peers don't always think so, because they're shortsighted and focused on getting laid.

worthlessjuan:yeah, who the Fark cares
I do. Because I perform well in school, I'm retaining valuable knowledge that I can apply to a career. I plan on becoming an engineer. Do you think I'd be capable of that if I chose to sleep through physics?

worthlessjuan:you asked what is wrong with eugenics, moran, or please tell me you were just trolling, that is your only hope.

It got a rise out of you didn't it? But I really was hoping for insight, not personal attacks. I like to hear what others have to say.

worthlessjuan:You state moral reasons . . . what is that?

Killing people is wrong? It'd be nice if only those capable of raising children chose to do so, but that is not the case. I don't support eugenics because, besides its immorality, it's an utter waste of my time. I'm far better off living my own life and letting others choose to live theirs how they see fit.

worthlessjuan:the problem is, what are the cut criteria.

Exactly. The "ideal" is arbitrary. There's no sole determining factor. I figure life will sort itself out, as seen numerous times on Fark.

/Take everything I say with a grain of salt, please; my posts are not always well thought out
//The Internet is serious business

OK, Monkeywhatever . . . I just picked on you because it was easy and the 4th fireworks are over and I am bored. I am an engineering manager, don't know if you would make the cut, maybe, we usually don't fark with newbie egos until they have been in the world for maybe three months, some make it, some get rotated forever (in the name of training for management that they never get to, sorry, real life, not PC). If they don't look panicked when challenged with a real world situation sometimes, then I know they don't understand the problem and they are headed for rotation.

I don't think I made a personal attack except by using your Fark name, it was the basic principle I was contending with, moral versus freedom of which I considered the moral aspect an immature statement. However, you still think it is a moral thing ("killing people is wrong?" and "waste of my time") and don't see the freedom aspect, Oh well.

Eugenics was an American concept at one time then it was taken over by another authority that justified all sorts of bad stuff (don't want to Godwin the thread). It can never be considered an option. Mr. Hawkings might disagree with you also about physical condition.

So, peace Monkeypillow. Just remember that one of the WORST attributes of an accomplished engineer is ego and a sense of superiority. There are plenty of good and capable people who don't realize the world is just a whole bunch of different forms of energy.

Surprise! Simple statements get surprise responses.

Oh, and what is serious about the interwebthingee? No need to answer.

Up until they are about 15 to 18 months old, babies LIKE beer. In other parts of the world, they give them beer in small amounts to make them sleep better, particularly when they are teething.

Here in the USA, any mention of giving beer to babies will send people into fits of rage. Especially in suburbia.

I've had one person after another tell me in no uncertain terms - and even highly vitriolic terms - that eugenics is TEH EVIL!! ("'Cause Hitler supported it" - by which reasoning painting, homosexuality, dogs, clothing, writing and various other mundane and harmless things become evil).

If you have a choice between allowing people to procreate willynilly passing on their horrible genetics that code for miserable agonizing diseases to future generations and thus creating a future of genetically induced misery and interdicting procreation save to those who had good genes and who stood a good chance of being a good parent... why would you choose a future of misery? With a eugenics program in place, we could abolish most genetic disorders, Christian idiocy, and for the most part bad parenting - which is passed down from one generation to another (most people who abuse their family come from abusive families) - in a matter of a few decades. Without eugenics, it will take ages for humanity to improve the gene and meme pool - and that's if we don't destroy ourselves before that should happen. Opposition to eugenics makes NO sense.

The only problem with a eugenics program that I can see is that people are selfish retards with virtually zero philosophical and ethical understanding who treat children as if they were expendable articles the purpose of whose existence were their enjoyment; if the government were to take away their "right" to procreate, you'd suddenly see the revolution that is long overdue (the right thing for the wrong reasons).

So explain to me how procreation is a right... I would love to hear that. If you are, say, a midget and you know that there be a good chance that should you procreate, you child should likewise be a midget, then going ahead and having the kid for the sake of YOUR happiness and YOUR satisfaction is tantamount to accosting someone on the street, punching him in the face, and mugging him - only much worse, since "vertical impairment" stays with one for the entirety of his life making him miserable throughout.

People use children as implements for the amelioration of straitened marriages and boring dull unfulfilling lives and this is why they oppose eugenics. They don't want to lose their trump card, their emergency source of fulfillment. But according to the ethics upon which all (good) U.S. law is founded, procreation should NOT, NOT, NOT be a right - no more than it should be a right to murder, assault, or rob from people.

Drug use should, however, and also physician-assisted suicide. (Two issues very near and dear to my heart, since living in this shiatty world with morons who don't have the slightest understanding of anything nor the vaguest feelings of altruism is farking miserable.)

Wow, you really are inexperienced.

No, they are not supposed to actually "panic", they do need to show an appreciation of the gravity of the situation and that it is really a challenge that calling Prof. Whoever will not solve. It is you, you must put it together and do it and you know by the description that it will be something they never specifically taught you in school, you will have to apply your education and talent (if you have any).

Once you get into it, it is fun. But if you do not immediately realize the implications, you are a newbie, or a loser. Experienced people respond with questions immediately about how to solve obvious associated situations, newbies who realize the gravity look worried (panicked), clam up and go think about it, then come with questions, goodness. Rotation candidates say "no problem" and go off and waste budget.

Not meant personally towards you, just general and based on experience. Lots of people think they have talent and guess what, it never shows. I was talking as a hiring and managing manager, IE, I have to live with my decisions. You know, there are TV shows (I think) about "so you think you have talent or can sing, or can dance or whatever"

If you are still in HS, I bow to your ambition and wish you the best. Now I feel like I've abused a child. Not a good feeling and I'm sorry, but you have held up your end of the plank well and it seems you have great potential. I can't find the source for it now, but I remember a quote that in the worst of times children are about the only asset the poor have as hope for the future. You take that away from them and yes, they will revolt, because they will have nothing more to live and work for. Of course, this was in the time when children were also free labor and the only form of 'social security' for the elderly. Also, most "poor" people didn't spend their non-working hours in front of the tv or video game with a beer in their hand.

2008-07-05 01:13:11 PM
Tsk tsk subby. You need to learn something about sentence structure, and since nobody else has bothered to say anything, I'll volunteer.

"Indiana man gave beer to his 1-year-old nephew, "he's a champ, he can handle it," then punched his girlfriend in the face when she objected and sped away in her SUV, threatening to kill her and her daughter when he returned."

The way your sentence is written, it seems to say that the man punched the woman after she objected and she drove away whilst threatening to kill herself and her daughter when he returned.

You should have written it this way:

Indiana man gave beer to his 1-year-old nephew, stating, "he's a champ, he can handle it." When his girlfriend objected, he punched her in the face and sped away in her SUV, threatening to kill her and her daughter when he returned.

Well, that's one way, and even this has problems because of the limited space and formatting for a headline. It does, however, make it clear that the MAN sped away in the SUV.
