#3: Awesome. I just forwarded this article to my boss

But in the end, #10 says it all. High gas prices = less fat.

All ten are trumped by the #1 reason to hate $4 gas:

Your economy is collapsing around you.

Wow, that's stupid. It's like saying "I'm glad I lost my legs because I don't have to buy shoes any more."

The smart bit in the article explains why the rest of it is wrong. The smart bit is on the first page. Economics drives decisions much better than politics. (This is the lesson of Fast Food Nation, by the way, a book I recommend even though I don't agree with the author's agenda.)

Due to the same cost-benefit principle that makes people buy smaller cars and drive less when gas prices go up, people were moving to the suburbs, driving to work, etc. because there was a net positive value in doing so.

Personally I'll be happy to see less traffic and fewer speed traps, but only because I can afford gas for my inefficient car. Not because I think recession is good for the country.

#11. The people in the ghettos have less gas money to travel in to the suburbs to steal, rape and pillage.

Does it cost $4 bucks to have the web designer put the list on one page?

You know, a number of us are in the position of having told you so for quite some years now, and being called every imaginable name during the process.

And if a flood washes my house away, I don't have to vacuum the rugs this weekend! Woo hoo!

Gas prices are only going to get worse. Oil's probably peaked by now.

6. Fewer Traffic Deaths

If Mad Max is any indication of the future, I can assure you that traffic deaths will not slack off.

Less incompetent teenage drivers on the road?

Also, I own lots of stock in an oil company, so I'm getting a kick out of high crude prices.

/Is a teenager
//Only somewhat incompetent

I quit at #4, since global warming is total bullshiat. If they haven't figured that out yet, nothing else they have to say is worth listening to.

2008-07-02 09:40:36 PM
Oh hooray! Just imagine how awesome things will be when gas is $8.00 a gallon here in the US! It will be a motherf*cking UTOPIA!

2008-07-02 09:41:36 PM
High gas prices means that all GOPers can shut the fark up about jimmy carter for the next 50 years or more. Your boy bush farked the nation worse, so welcome to shut the fark up, treason supporting biatches.

I hate driving anyways. Nearly bought the farm on the Dallas North Tollway yesterday....I could do with out the commute.

/At least more companies are opening up to the idea of working from home
//We just started a flex day program which is excellent
///Every other Friday I can scream get off my lawn in person.

Possibbly the dumbest, least newsworthy article I have ever read in my life. Unless you're part of the liberal MSM trying to convince everyone that cars are bad and living like the Europeans is good. Then it's hard to contain your glee at $4 gas. Imagine if it goes to 6 or 7. They'll have a farking Goregasm!

I'm gonna have to look into that pleasure driving classification.

The reason I like high gas prices?? At least I'm getting screwed! Not in the way that I really want, but I'll take what I can get.

2008-07-02 09:44:41 PM
I'll only believe $4+/gallon is a good thing when I see soccer moms driving vehicles that finally give them the confidence to get in and out of parking spots in one quick turn.

Not clicking through 10 page lists, ever.

gruelurks:#11. The people in the ghettos have less gas money to travel in to the suburbs to steal, rape and pillage.

Now the ghettotrash just steal gas. Right out of your tank. Then you have a few hundred dollars in damages, while they continue to steal, rape, and pillage.

Our company started doing the 4/10 thing about a year and a half ago. Our turnover is now essentially zero, and everybody is happy all the time.

I'm never ever ever ever ever quitting.

#11. The people in the ghettos have less gas money to travel in to the suburbs to steal, rape and pillage.

So the people of Arlington, Mass., were thinking ahead in the 1980s when they blocked a subway extension out of fear of black people from Boston invading their town.

Less incompetent teenage drivers on the road?

Indeed. I submitted a link about that a couple weeks ago.

So if gas were $40 a friggin' gallon, then there would be 100 things I would like?

Bring it on!

2008-07-02 09:56:30 PM
I'm liking the fact that the asshats who used to thumb their noses from their Hummers at us people waiting at the stop for our metro bus as recently as last December are now climbing on board with us, but we've already taken all the good seats so they have to go sit in the back with the winos & freaks in the back.

I liked all 10 of those.

I think America is undergoing a revolution as we speak. The free ride is over. We have to think again to succeed.

Personally I would be thrilled with $4 gas. I dont think I've paid less than $4.75 in the past month or so and that even includes filling up at my local Costco every once in a while.

I like how the propane truck is the one vehicle who stayed in his lane.

wow, i didn't think they could actually come up with 10, but those are actually kinda reasonable.

Bonzo_1116:And this is exactly how a frog gets boiled.

Yup. People would think a miracle has occurred were the price of gas to suddenly drop to $3. They'd be dancing in the streets.

Actually I cant complain too much. Here in San Antonio I'm only paying about 3.95 per gallon. I know it's just a matter of time before it makes its way up to 4 something.

2008-07-02 10:06:24 PM
Oh. My. God.

Guys, gas prices are going up, and this can only mean one thing: the American economy will need to adapt to the rapidly changing environment. Things are going to be different, and I don't know if I can cope with that.

//The American economy isn't going to collapse. You might be screwed, but hey- that's life.

What the hell difference does a dime make when gas is $4? I'm basically going to be pissed off about gas prices until they get to $2/Gallon or less. Dammit.

Tr0mBoNe:But in the end, #10 says it all. High gas prices = less fat.

Fark Farkety Fark Fark Fark:Someone please post #1-10 in concise sentences. Web pages scroll down for a reason.

Because you said please:

1: Globalized jobs returning home
2: Reduction in urban sprawl
3: 4 day workweeks
4: Less pollution
5: More frugality, people conserving more, etc.
6: Fewer traffic deaths
7: Cheaper insurance if you're driving less
8: Less traffic
9: More cops on foot/bike, since there's less time spent driving around, possibly better community relations
10: Less obesity

/hates click thru lists too

The white semi with the white trailer swerved to avoid something (probably an improper merger) and jackknifed his truck across all lanes, requiring everyone to panic stop. Not all panic stops are created equal, so many rear-endings ensued.

Here's the kicker, if you look on the left... all those f*cksticks are a result of gawkers causing the same thing in the opposite direction. They're all in the median after swerving to avoid the pileup of rubberneckers.

I have already seen a reduction in traffic and accidents around here. That means lower insurance, less gas wasted in jams, and less pollution. The article was really optimistic but I can buy the logic behind all the claims. It doesn't say the world is better, it just means that with something so broadly affecting people, there will be some benefits due to a reduction in gluttonous consumption.

The list FTA:
1. Globalized Jobs Return Home
2. Sprawl Stalls
3. Four-Day Workweeks
4. Less Pollution
5. More Frugality
6. Fewer Traffic Deaths
7. Cheaper Insurance
8. Less Traffic
9. More Cops on the Beat
10. Less Obesity

Gas has always been $4.
$4 gas is doubleplusgood.
