(Reuters)   "You would think a press release about a German Nazi war criminal named Johann Bach being caught in the jungles of Goa after trying to sell a stolen 18th-century piano would be worth double-checking"   (blogs.reuters.com) divider line 42

This ranks right up there with the story about a Spanish Liberation Front general, Pablo P. Casso, smuggling oil-based pigmentation gel out of Madrid.

I hadn't thought of that. Now that I think of it, the Nazis are the origin of the cliche about the murderer who has a taste for art and classical music, aren't they.

Why does that headline sound like the punchline to a Dennis Miller routine, circa 1990?

On the contrary, the best note you can get from a piano is by dropping it down a mine shaft.

This (^) still rules:

Beijing's most popular newspaper has unwittingly republished a bogus story about U.S. Congress threats to skip town for Memphis or Charlotte unless Washington builds them a new Capitol building with a retractable dome.
The source? America's celebrated spoof tabloid, the Onion.

WHy couldn't they have simply been checked? WTF do they mean by "cross checked"? Nonsense I tell you!

I disagree, you get a better sound by dropping it on an Army HQ.

I am not at all surprised.

When the Murrah Building blew up, I was perhaps the only person to notice that the FBI knew who did it before any investigation was even launched, let alone completed.

When the Waco Compound was incinerated, nobody bothered to check when an FIB--I mean, FBI---flack said Koresh had been shot to death three days before the body was identified, and all the gross physical evidence indicated he had been burned to death. Lucky guess?

When Al Gore released An Inconvenient Truth, I counted nine major errors, of a total of 21 which were eventually found. Nobody ever issued a correction.

The press just lapped it up anyway.

You can't trust anything you see in the media, they are either biased, on the take or just totally incompetent.

Dan Rather and CBS fell for TANG documents from Lucy Ramirez.
I would think anybody would get a pass after these two single-handedly nuked the Tiffany network news division.
