Deaf people are, for the most part, giant assholes. Never met one who was born deaf who wasn't a complete prick. Inversely, blind people, by and large, are some of the sweetest folks you'll ever meet.

Makes me think that there is something about not being able to hear (experiencing life through your eyes) that turns you into a self absorbed, narcissistic, shallow asshat. While there's something about having to understand the world through "listening" that causes blind people to develop extraordinary amounts of empathy.

Maybe it's just a hundred-fold amplified case of what people do when they pass a bum on the street; It's easy enough to avert your gaze, but it's hard sometimes to get that voice out of your head?

I never really pondered before the importance of spoken communication for conveying empathy. Way too farking deep for me.
