Take away Charleston and there is really no reason to go to S.C. I've spent many a day in the area around Columbia (which has some nice restaurants), but otherwise it's the armpit of America.

Fine. Stay away. It won't hurt my feelings at all.

I'd like less and less of you to consider being here. It would help get the untenable sprawl under control.

Asheville is a fun, laid back town. Boone is good for an even more laid back vibe without all the smugness. And in Asheville they seriously enforce the 'No Bikes on the Sidewalk' law. Even if you've got a kid on the back of your bike.

And Occam's Chainsaw, I notice no Wilmington on your list. Scared of a little serious competition? Go Seahawks.

//And Greenville has done a darn good job with no tourist attracting geography.

That's weird. The article I read just said that they put up a total of two (TWO!) signs that pointed away from two colleges and an auditorium. So, 2 signs and 3 places that tourists might not go to (I know I've never done a touristy thing at a college). I have to conclude that since this thread is filled with people from North and South Carolina, that people from North and South Carolina did not and CAN not read. Way to disprove a stereotype guys! This includes submitter, who must have had the story read to them.

Is there a DNRTFT acronym? ubermensch, we don't need your eugenical, God-killing propoganda in a thread about the superiority of one Carolina to another. We were prompted, we spoke up.

That sounds *really* fun and laid back.

Espertron: Instead of First in Flight for the NC slogan, how about...

"North Carolina, the new New Jersey"

We've got the one-party political system, the failing schools, the crumbling infrastructure and the overdeveloped coast - all we needed was the corruption. And the administration of Mike Sleazly has provided that in spades.

The phenomena you speak of is called 'ECU'.

Don't forget to give Jim Black and Mike Nifong their due. I know there are a host of others, but they're the only two that come to mind ATM.

Directions to Clemson from Columbia: North until you smell it, west until you step in it. (tired and worn out joke)

/ from what I've seen in my travels, every state has it's suckage to some degree or another.

Wow, an entire thread about South Carolina and no one has mentioned the hellhole I lived in until I was 17.

Florence, South Carolina. It doesn't get any worse; population maybe 120,000, mosquito population 5.4 billion, temperature 110, heat index 135.

tjfly: Ikimasen: Sweet. I'm from NC, and I approve.

/Okay, directing people away from the college is bad. Directing people away from SC, though...

Where from NC? Raliegh here.

Lived in Raleigh 3 years and I can spell it right ;)

Really, NC is pretty nice and its so close to SC... don't know how that happened.

/SC is the worst. Clemson sucks.

You

I went to Myrtle Beach when I was twelve. I got a shark tooth necklace and we ate at Johnny Rockets. Good times.

Tritonean: But then again I lived rather close to BJU and I was the liberal jew with an activist lesbian mother and a dad married to a black woman.

BJ University? Can I still apply even if I am in 40's?

So your dad was your mom's beard?

Still beats Jersey. MB, Garden City and just about anywhere in SC beat being stuck in NJ.

/can you tell I WANT OUT of NJ?
