I pass those everyday, and I didn't even realize they were adverts for Colt45, not a particularly good marketing campaign. Demographically speaking, Colt45 is about 5 years too late for those locations, we young white folk have seen to the proper gentrifications of that neighborhood.

"Illegal advertisement", unless it's fraudulent, is a phrase that should automatically get the government laughed out of court.

Billy Dee Williams in not impressed. AKA Lando. Taste good cold while watching Return of the Jedi. Take four ounces every time Lando comes on screen.

Warhol, Campbell's soup cans - been there, done that.

It's the latest iteration of pop art. Pop art is often full of popular cultural references, including commerical products such as Colt 45.

Now if they'd chosen Budweiser I'd have a problem.

Normally I would agree but it was an illegally placed advertisement.

Property rights do not always allow you to place billboards on that property.

"The fourth biggest brewer in the U.S., a $59 million industry coming into our city and breaking our laws. I find that unconscionable and disrespectful," Tracy said.

If that same industry pulled out and took away the jobs, she'd be saying that same thing.

This. Outrage about economic development/gentrification/whitey among people who live in shiat neighborhoods is hilarious.

Philly is more worried about a beer picture on thier walls than the amount of gun crime in the city?

The outrage is not "whitey" is entering the nieghborhoods, but with the normally long-overdue changes that whitey
=======================================

FTFA:

Pabst Beer paid local businesses for some of their wall space. But the city said the quasi-murals are illegal because a permit is needed.

So, Pabst is creating jobs in the community by giving a small business owner $1000 to paint a beer bottle on a wall?

"I would normally agree this should be illegal, but this was illegal, so it's unacceptable"?

Interesting train of thought.

tweekster: Property rights do not always allow you to place billboards on that property

Unless it impedes some one else's use of their property, yes, property rights allow exactly that. That's the idea. It's yours. You get to decide what to do with it.

Besides, it wasn't a billboard, it was a mural.

PBR has one up on Fourth and Pemberton. It's just kind of ridiculous and I am glad that our city is taking more aggressive steps against street marketing teams. Before they really cleaned South Street up, I was going to have bumperstickers that said, "This multi-million dollar corporation paid thousands of dollars to an advertising company to pollute your neighborhood in order to make you aware of something you don't need" to slap on all the bullsh*t litter that people were putting up.

Also, most of you are unaware that Philadelphia has draconian laws governing a company's ability to put advertising up as a means of not sh*tting all over its neighborhoods. That's why Clearchannel has such a monopoly on the place because there are only a certain amount of advertising venues.

Excellent. Now, what's your address, as I'm looking for a good location for my combination rendering plant/oil refinery/papermill? It seems that next door to you would be a good location. After all, if I buy the property, it's mine and I can do what I want with it, right?

If I can smell/hear those things to the degree that it hinders my ability to use my property, no, you couldn't do those things and I would be entitled to force you to desist and compensate me.

A mural like this in no way rises to that level.
