TFA: New Flint Police Chief David Dicks orders police to crack down on sagging pants

If I adjust my monocle, I can see what they did there.

2008-06-27 08:36:14 AM
Some Flint residents are all for busting those who go bottoms out.
"It's overdue," said Sam Berry, 73, of Flint.
Gwendolyn R. Allen, 72, of Flint agreed.
"It's so disgusting ... It's disgraceful."

So when you get hit over the head and your pension check is stolen you can rejoice in the fact that your cops are busy making those young-uns pull up their pants!

/Who's gonna keep them off your lawn, Grampa?

That's some mighty fine police work, Lou.

STFU and pull up those britches! I can see your underpants, for Gawd's sake!!

2008-06-27 10:08:32 AM
I have come to expect this from Jebusland, but since when did Yankees become this stupid?

2008-06-27 10:08:41 AM
Why?

If their pants are hanging off their ass and mostly around their ankles they can't run as fast from the police.

2008-06-27 10:08:55 AM
So when are they just going to go ahead an outlaw black people?

/ducks

2008-06-27 10:09:16 AM
i hate stupid ass people who cant pull their pants up, get rid of the sagging pants wearers and you get rid of some of the crime.

2008-06-27 10:09:34 AM
Baggy pants make yutes run slow--makes them easy to catch. I say, let them be as saggy as they want to be. It can only help the police.

2008-06-27 10:10:00 AM
You know, thats ok with me.

Spend a little less on busting kids on skateboards and folks with the devil weed, and start using those 6' HVAC zip strips as belts to help these kids keep their pants up.

/You're 18 years old, you don't know shiat about shiat, and pull up your pants! (sips my maple nut crunch coffee)

2008-06-27 10:10:11 AM
I find fat, squatty bodied "attractive and successful people of mexican descent" with midriff bearing shirts disgusting and offensive. Since the police want to target offensive styles, why stop with the one that emulates a prison uniform?

2008-06-27 10:10:37 AM
What's really funny, if urban legend proves correct, is that if the origin of baggy pants was pointed out to these fine youths, they'd quickly opt for a different fashion choice.

"It's a prison fashion."
Well, yeah.

"It's a tough-guy image, prison thing."
Well, sort of.

"Actually, it's prison guys who are announcing they're 'available' with quick and easy access to other prison guys."
WIN.

Yeah and it looks kinda stupid too. Nothing says 'hard' like your belt sitting below your ass.

degreeless: Why?

Came here to say just that. Great minds and all...whatever.

I honestly don't see the point, it's a hassle having to keep pulling up your pants...that's a lot of work in my opinion.

2008-06-27 10:12:44 AM
If you want to arrest someone, but can't come up with any other grounds... there's always "saggy pants."

2008-06-27 10:14:27 AM
Since many of the individuals that wear their pants around their asses are associated with gang and drug activity I wholeheartedly agree with this policy. If they respected their mommas they'd pull 'em up anyway, instead of tryin' to look like a thug.

2008-06-27 10:14:33 AM
Sagging pants are signs for the pushers/dealers in the drug-deal chain. Subby needs to get out of his mom's basement and realize that fashion reveals one's profession: underground (sagging jeans being druggie) or legitimate (suit and tie being office).

If police crack down on sagging pants, they cut down on drug dealers. At least until a new symbol is thought up and becomes a widely publically known meme.

Unfortunately, this move will only solidify this fashion trend. I used to really enjoy seeing a man's butt hugged in denim, even a nice silhouetted man-bubble... Alas, those days are gone, but not forgotten... One day, maybe, HOPEFULLY, guys will start dressing for the ladies and not for each other...

They're policing morality now?

If they ban the saggy pants fad, who am I supposed to laugh at?
Maybe tying your shoelaces together will be the next fad...

It is one of those legends that is worth just claiming to be true regardless of whether it is not.

After hearing that story it is hard to take a lot of those guys seriously.

Seriously, when is this style going to end? This has been going on dam near 20 years now, it isn't even practical. So what do they do? They create the XXXXXXL t-shirt to accommodate it.

and that is easy to "plant" too, just pants the guy then arrest him.

My bro-in-law, the high school principal, carries a pocketful of nylon zip ties. When he sees sagging pants, he grabs 2 belt loops, pulls them up where Levi Strauss intended, and zip ties them in place.

A couple of parents have called to ask why their kid came home with a zip tie on his pants. After hearing the explanation, several have said, "So I should beat his ass if I find one of these?"

I just want to know where they buy those hats. Ya know with the bill on the back. And some even have the bill sewn on the side and even at 45 degrees. Help me people. Google isn't my friend on this one.

Rambino: I have come to expect this from Jebusland, but since when did Yankees become this stupid?

It started a few weeks ago.

Big Cities, huge crime problems = miniscule attacks on small and insignificant portions of the criminal's "culture".

Just wait, Detroit will outlaw Skull Caps and Miami will do away with 24" Spinners.

Worse yet, it will create a black market, funneling money into organized crime.
When pants are outlawed, only outlaws will wear pants.

Exactly what I came here to say. I don't see how someone unable to run away quickly would be a problem for police.

You're joking, right? What year are you living in? It's fashion. Do you have any idea how trends work? People have been wearing their clothes like this for years. It's just like the one pant leg rolled up urban legend. Sure, it's possible that initially it indicate that someone was holdin', but once it catches on not 1-in-20 people actually are.

This is racial profiling, end of story. And your statement that "saggy pants = druggie" but "suit and tie = law abiding, hard working citizen" is ridiculous. Have you ever heard of, oh I don't know, the mafia? You can keep living in your own little world with your blinders on because you were never one of the cool kids on the block, but when you espouse locking people up just because they're different from you it's fascist and wrong.

You know who else arrested people because they were different?

2008-06-27 10:28:48 AM
I think people are missing the obvious part here.
There is a certain section of the population in which 90% of the people sag their pants.
90% of pant-saggers belong to a certain demographic.
These two groups have a huge overlap.

The demographic in both cases?
No... not "Black people"
Criminals.

The police really don't care much about the pant-sagging.
The police care that if they have a reason to confront a pant-sagger for something... anything... especially something image related... they're going to find out what criminal activity that person was doing.
Cop calls out thug for saggy pants... thug mouths off... cop now gets to arrest and/or pat down thug... thug gets busted for drugs.

This is very much like the "tax evasion" they slapped so many gangsters with back in the heyday.

2008-06-27 10:29:13 AM
Is there a major city not doing this right now?

Personally I have a problem with this. People should be free to express themselves in any way they feel like doing, even if it's makes for bad fashion choices. Besides, if saggy pants were illegal in my town, I would have missed out on seeing that black teenager run across the street, then watch as his sagging pants caused him to trip and fall over in the middle of the street. Bonus: he fell hard enough to bleed. I had to pull the car into the first parking lot I could find because I was laughing so hard.
