peachpicker: ksatori: I think a better method of study would be to post some pics of Mr. Bale, I can provide you with some anecdotal evidence on my response.

Anecdotal evidence is hardly scientific. The results have to be reproducible in a laboratory setting to be considered valid. Hot, sexy laboratory settings...

FINE. Send Kari on over with Mr. Bale and we will report back in an indepth clinical article as to our results.

Ew. And this Travers person gets PAID to write?

Here comes a thunderstorm. Hide your, um, blankets.

Makes one think that if someone like him can get paid to do it, perhaps there's hope for one yet.

Wall-E this weekend, a weekend off for July 4th, then Hellboy 2 on 7/11, The Dark Knight on 7/18 and X-Files on 7/25.

I think Maggie is average for a movie star. I would have casted Rose McGowan but then I'd cast her in everything.

I agree, plus Maggie looks too much like her brother Jake.

Maggie?

She could be "woman-bat", what with that fetal alcohol syndrom nose of hers.

You are reinforcing the opposite, in fact.

Are those old school? I mean, do you have dates for them, how can you tell?

I meant 1920's - 40's type looks. Or something like that.

Met Maggie in the airport in Cancun a few years ago returning to the states from vacation. My then two-year-old boy was being flirty with her and she was very cute and gracious with him. She is quite lovely in person, and those eyes are something to write home about.

Well look at it this way, how many assistant DAs look like Monica Bellucci or Salma Hayek? They're going for realism (as much realism as you can get in a comic book movie). One of the hags from Desperate Housewives would have been more believable, would you have preferred that?

Anyway, the movie looks awesome. And there isn't even an action figure for Two Face, he's so farked up looking so that should be bad ass.

wolvernova: robsul82: I've heard from a few people who have seen it early that Best Supporting Actor at the Oscars this year is officially closed for business due to Ledger's performance, so that's good.

Really evil bad guy performances can be competition-killers. Like the creep from No Country or Hannibal Lecter. Just from what I've seen in the trailers, I don't know how he could be passed up in the nomination process. It's like the reviewer said, something kinda Clockwork Orangish about it. We don't get that too often.

Add in his being dead and residual guilt from passing over his performance as Ennis Del Mar in favor of a Truman Capote impression because "he'll have more chances coming," etc., and I don't see how Ledger's not going to win BSActor this year.

She by no means ugly but there's something odd about her cheeks, I've noticed this in the batman trailers and to a lesser extent in some of the pics above. They look off somehow? Puffy/droopy, something like that. Anyone else see this?

Remember a year ago (or whenever it was) that they announced he was the Joker? People lit up a shiat storm even worse than they did when Daniel Craig landed Bond. But like with Craig, people certainly STFU as soon as they saw him in the trailer.

Maggie is attractive enough, but I'm just glad they got someone who can act as opposed to the typical wooden mannequin female leads they've had in Batman Movies (Bassinger, Holmes, Kidman).

FTR: "... just try and get it out of your dreams."

No shiat.

Memento, Batman Begins, and The Prestige stuck with me for days after watching them. The only thing I can compare the feeling to (in terms of intensity) is having a wonderful night with a girl you just met and instantly clicked with, but not being able to get in touch with her for a few days.

Yes, those movies are, to me, that good. Cannot farking wait for Dark Knight, and the spoilers make it even more enticing to me, 'cause I know how farking awesome it's going to be.

There is no way this movie can be PG-13. That's Dark Man nasty, and that movie was very R-rated.

Street cred??? "Parents Just Don't Understand" was a white suburban teen anthem in the 80s.

Will Smith once had street cred like Rob Schneider once had several Oscar nominations.

The pod people come out in force when she is brought up on Fark. Normal humans don't find her attractive and the pics in this thread certainly don't help. She's plain at best.

Yeah, that's it. Her cheekbones are so low and her orbital bones are so prominent that she looks hangdog. She looks like she has on skull goggles under her flesh and skin.

gatsome: NittLion78: even if this isn't as good as Batman Begins, it will still destroy any other movie out for the next few months

This movie is going to destroy any other movie this year. If it gets the same amount of screens as Spider-Man 3 did (4,300) then it's going to be grossing 100+ million opening weekend. Name recognition of Batman is sky high and this movie has been highly anticipated for the last year or more. It might even break Spidey 3's record, and I'm a die hard Spider-Man fan.

...plus Heath Ledger's "last performance". It's going to break the opening weekend record.

This is easy. There are three broad categories under which female appeal can fall. Every woman has each to some degree or another. The three categories are pretty/beautiful, sexy, and cute. Some men respond better to one of these categories than they do others.

Maggie is NOT pretty in the usual sense. She's kind of odd looking. However, she can be insanely sexy, and sometimes very cute.

Well then I've never wanted to bone a sad cartoon turtle so much in my life, even if I do think Katie Holmes was (emphasis on past tense) adorable.

Got tickets for Saturday July 19 for IMAX at Navy Pier and probably way too excited for a movie. Comcast has some pretty good stuff about Dark Knight and they keep adding stuff every week I guess until the release.

Don't really care one way or another if people are already disappointed with the movie because there will always be haters. If I am disappointed then so be it but what I have seen so far is earning big bucks for their marketing team and rightfully so.

robsul82: I've heard from a few people who have seen it early that Best Supporting Actor at the Oscars this year is officially closed for business due to Ledger's performance, so that's good.

A movie critic I know (let's face it, every city has a few hundred these days, so it's hard NOT to know one) agrees.

He got a sneak-peak of the movie and says if Ledger's performance doesn't land a nomination, then they should close down the Oscars and call it a day.

He also says it's a good sign when the studios let the critics get early reviews. Shows confidence in solid material and generates cosmic-level buzz. Mega-profits ensue.

His only concern - Ledger is almost too good. He says Bale does a great job, but Ledger's work is so spot-on that some fans may not notice.

That from a guy who thought Batman Begins was average at best.
