This is the internet. You figure out the rest...

yes and no

SarahL: There wasn't any real group that I LARP'd with. It was about thirty of us that would just get together, rent a cabin in the woods, and create our own fantasy scenarios. Most of the time I was the only chick there. It was... Interesting?

it started great

I just liked running around and hitting people. I haven't done it in years. These days you're more likely to find me sitting in a book store's science section reading with a very large cup of coffee.

But didn't end how I thought

Supercheeks: You want a blind date hookup (not me)? My younger brother, teaches high school math, former hockey player, wacky sense of humor, kind of geeky. He's not ugly or a jerk, honest.

I only clicked because I saw the mythical female IT person, and being in IT myself I had to see if you actually existed. ;) Then I saw you contorting your face, and all I could think of is how many pictures of my brother are similar - weird faces for humor value.

Yes, I'm trying to set my younger brother up... I feel bad as he's had a dry spell. Most of his co-workers are old, and while he likes his drink he's not huge on the "bar scene." Makes it hard to find dates.

E-mail in profile, and I'm not asking for BIE here. 100% serious.

..wanna go LARP this weekend? I'll be the villager that needs saving and you can be the lvl 12 amazon warrior goddess that saves me from...something. I really lost track where I was going with that one.

2008-06-23 12:06:05 PM
OldScotch: So aside from casting blindly on the internet and hoping they live somewhat close to you, where does one find a nerd girl? Coffee shops? Pubs? Bookstores?
I'm just assuming that going to a club and hoping to find one would be the proverbial diamond in the rough. And work is always dangerous.

If you want to find a chick that is into the same stuff that you are... go to places where people do such things. If you're into video games, go to EB; if you're into (*barfs a little*) Magic go to a card shop, etc... If they really have common interests to yours, they'll end up at the same places. It may take a good bit of time, and you'll have to be on your game, but that is what it takes. Online groups sorta count, but you never know until you meet in person. Just ask DoZ.

Or you can just hang out with smart people and meet a woman of equivalent intelligence that understands that it is okay to not have 100% overlapping geek indulgences. You can have stimulating conversations and relations when together, and she'll understand that you need time apart so that you can put on your robe and wizard hat while she goes to a book club or something.

I am a nerd girl, not especially attractive but not unreasonable either, and for some reason I only seem to attract ubernerds who NEVER leave their computers. Yeah I want a guy with a brain, but I want him to have a life outside as well.

Phil Herup: Geeks and Nerds are different.

Geeks can be cool

Nerds can not be coo by definition of being a nerd.

Geeks possess a high level of knowledge on one or more subjects.

I think you mean wonk.

Originally geek meant some hobo that a carnival would pick up, keep liquored up, and put in a cage to howl, holler, bite the heads off chickens, smear himself with shiat and so forth, so they could charge the local rubes a quarter to see "The Wild Man of Borneo".

Kind of gives a whole new meaning to "Geek Squad".
