Maybe they don't want the Marine core Soldiers to go to the Iraq and such as?

On one hand I have the utmost respect for Marines. My parents and uncles were Marines. I know marine corps history. On the other hand my childhhod was so many levels of farked up that I won't even have a child. A D.I. dad with PTSD does not a happy childhood make.

Lay off the Marines. People who couldn't get into the Navy should be allowed to serve their country too.

They interupted their own interview. How did he manage not to start hitting them with some kind of news bat? I'm a hippy myself and I just wanted to start beating people when I saw that.

So the CodePink douchebags act like anti-abortion activists by barricading the doors to recruiting offices, and act suprised at the consequences.

Geez, could this article have given any less detail? What were the charges? If all they were doing was "exercising their constitutional rights", then the details should support that, rather than make it look like there is something to hide.

My guess, the CodePINKers threatened the lives of these Marines and their family members. I'd think little else would've gotten such a strong response, particularly since CodePINK has, ironically, a pretty militant mindset.

2008-06-22 07:59:33 PM
CodePink is like the Westboro baptist church. They're happiest making trouble so that they get more media attention for their cause.

To be fair, when the term "Americans" is used, I often see it accompanied by "OMG Canada is in North America, too, you self-centered asshole!"

Maybe she was just trying to be specific :)

I'm guessing that actions such as these led to the arrests and charges

2008-06-22 08:02:14 PM
06Wahoo: What were the charges?

They've got nothing. But since they'll try to make whatever flimsy "charge" stick, depends on how much these women are willing to put their lives on the line for their 1st Amendment rights.

The mothers were the ones arrested while the war criminals and perpetrators remain free to continue the heinous business of foreign troop occupation, torture, rape, murder, mayhem, and the horrific destruction of the sovereign nation of Iraq

The truth's a b*tch. I know it's like STILL uncool to state it these days.

In her defense, there are a lot of people in South, Central, and North America. I'm not sure where the U.S.A. got to think they only they are "Americans". Those in Brazil, Canada, Argentina, or other country in South or North America may beg to differ. Of course, given the view of the U.S.A. across the world right now, maybe they don't want to be labeled as Americans.

I know. It's really stupid. Apparently, the fact that we're the United States of America doesn't give us the right to call ourselves Americans. We're supposed to stick with "U.S. citizens" or even "Yankees."

I've just gotten used to saying I'm "from the States" rather than "an American" to avoid it.

I think the war we're in is wrong on many levels, but I will always deeply respect the men and women of our armed forces (aside from a choice few in the upper echelons.) They're not the ones who put us in this mess.

So, in that regard, these CodePINK c*nts, and anyone else who is retarded enough to pin the blame on soldiers rather than politicians can take a long walk of a short pier, for all I care.

OK. Well just realize the fact that the reason everyone considered that a gaffe is because it is. No "US American" refers to themselves or their countrymen that way.

Honestly, I was wondering if that was satire because of the term.

1. Article didn't really say what these protesters were accused of specifically, which really doesn't tell anyone anything useful. Trespassing on a person's lawn versus a courthouse, for example, or threatening to stab someone versus saying "You should be shot."

2. What the hell kind of organization calls themselves "Code Pink"? That's either a lesbian euphemism or a strawberry Mountain Dew.

Look at the author's email address at the bottom.

Judyth Piazza

She's one of those womyn folk, hence the the repeated references to them as "mothers" to make them sympathetic characters, as well as zero description of what actually occurred and one-sided quotes from the group. Bad journalism at its finest.

I'm not sure where the U.S.A. got to think they only they are "Americans".

Mostly by default. Canadians usually refer to themselves as "Canadians", and you better be sure who you call a "Mexican" and who you call a "Salvadoran" down here in LA if you don't want your throat cut. Anywhere else in the world, if someone refers to an "American", it's a pretty safe bet they AREN'T talking about a North American from Canada or a South American from Brazil. They mean one of us imperialist Yankee scum from the USA.

That marine was my cousin.
The woman was my aunt, his mother.

So I guess what I'm asking is HOW THE HELL DO YOU INTIMIDATE A MARINE?!?!?

Here's forty shillings on the drum
To those who volunteer to come,
To 'list and fight the foe today
Over the Hills and far away.
Through smoke and fire and shot and shell,
And to the very walls of hell,
But we shall stand and we shall stay
Over the hills and far away

Semper Fi!!

It used to be true that even Spanish newscasts would refer to Americans as Americanos or Norte Americanos but the latest trend refers to them as Estado Unidenses, literally United Statians or whichever form that passes for. Kinda hard on the tongue in English though.

While it's true that the boots-on-the-ground soldiers are the ones who actually do all the occupying, torturing, raping, murdering, mayheming, and horrifying destroying of sovereign nations (and, yes, baby killing, dog-abusing, and Bible-stealing); they didn't get there all by themselves, and they don't cut their own orders. That doesn't make any sense for Mexicans. Their country's name is "The United States of Mexico". If they wanted America in their name they should have called it "The Mexican States of America".

I'm guessing that people here read the article and then concluded that it lacked enough information to make an informed judgment on the issue.

And rational discussion of the issues ensued.

yeah, that's it, yeah

Actually as of last year or the year before they officially dropped the Estados Unidos part, they are simply Mexico now.

John is a write-off and Jimmy is dead and Georgie was shot for looting
And young men's blood goes on being red and the army still goes on ahead recruiting
The troops live under the cannon's thunder from Sind to Cooch Behar
when they come face to face
moving from place to place
With a different breed of fellow whose skins are black or yellow
They quick as winking chop him into beefsteak tartar

The Marines are the ones who get there first, and cause whatever initial mayhem the invaded country endures.

Aren't these CodePINK mommies protesting at the wrong war office? Or is it too hard to protest at the Pentagon?

Berkeley's already had a history this. I'm guessing they're going after the Marines because they're the first line of fire.

Military recruiters are salespeople known to lie to and seduce minors and young adults into contracting themselves into military service with false promises regarding jobs, job training, education and other benefits

Doing their part to selling "war" to a public that doesn't want it.
