ThatGuyGreg: I'd spend a little more than $2 for flip flops, stop buying cheap crap from Wal Mart that was made in China with no safety regulation, lest the chemicals burn you. (^)

FIFY.

I have a pair of flips I bought at Old Navy five years ago. I wear them a lot more than the expensive ones a stupid ex-boyfriend bought me from a trendy Beacon Hill boutique, because they're much more comfortable.

I have a pair of Reef sandals that I paid $40 for.

They're absolute heaven to walk in, plus they have bottle openers on the bottom :)

$50 flip-flop. I wear these more than I wear shoes. I can even run in them.

Every pair of flip-flops I've ever owned have come out of a jumbled bin, which is the way God intended them to be purchased.

Sanuk Tweakers for all rubber flip flops

Reef for casual flip flops (bottle opener feature is neato!)

Keen for hiking sandals (Teva are ok too, but I like the toe protection of Keens)

Cole Haan with Nike Air for dress sandals

Chacos are the best.

Reefs are great for the money.

$2 sandals are great if you have a dog.

I am working in a podiatrist office so I am getting a kick out of...

Seriously, everyday, some jackass walks in and says his/her feet hurt. Tell them their shoes or flip flops are crap and they say "but they are comfortable". No, you are just too fat or lazy to bend over and tie a good pair of shoes.

People are idiots.

If you walk far enough in your flip-flops that "arch support" is a concern, you need to revisit your footwear collection.

Oh yes. The other thing about Reefs is they last FOREVER. Im heading into my third summer with them, I love them.

/unfortunately, each summer more and more people know about the bottle opener, the first year I had them it was a great way to strike up a conversation, not so much anymore

I bought relatively pricey flipflops once, and they flensed the skin off the tops of my feet.

Flipflops aren't good for your feet at all. They make you clench your toes together and walk with a slightly bowlegged shuffle. Not attractive.

I get about a year out of my Old Navy ones. I pretty much wear them all the time to and from class and walking around town.

I also wear jeans with them, degreeless, so arm your weapon.

I despise flip flops and all their variations. Now that flip flops are freaking everywhere, including the workplace, mall, the grocery store, and construction site, I've taken to wearing cleated golf shoes.

Flensed? Nice one, although that does sort of connote a layer of blubber on the tops of your feet.

I don't notice the awkward walking style to which you refer; probably because people spend a lot of the year in 'flops, so they don't lose proficiency. For some strange reason, when I wear them they don't clop-clop like everyone else's. I'm sure that's not good for my foot muscles.

On or around a wrestling mat only... ever. They seem like a good idea but just look awful. Right on par with aqua socks or dive booties. To each his/her own, though.

I own a pair of Rainbows and I've been wearing them for 2.5 years. These things are indestructible.

Lifetime warranty on manufacturers defects (stitching, etc.) The leather ones take a bit to break in.

These are simply the best flip flops on the market.

Penis.

I don't understand how anyone can stand to wear flip-flops. I hated them when I was a kid and I hate them at the pool or beach. I can't think of one single reason I'd ever wear flip-flops again in my life.

As mentioned in the article, they fark with the way you walk and they drive me crazy. And it's not like they're particularly comfortable, and they're certainly not especially attractive.

I'm not a big fan of sandals either, but at least they strap around your heel so you don't have to hold them on by pinching your toes.

2008-06-20 12:16:57 PM
First off, I can't see any sensible person paying more than $15 to $20 for flip flops (and even that is expensive), because they are essentially one large piece of rubber with another piece of rubber or cloth as a strap. The total cost of materials for most flip-flops is probably under $2 and I just can't accept paying 2000% mark-up on some flimsy shoes, even if they are sometimes comfortable.

Also, Crocs are stupid and ugly, and will be the sort of thing we look back on in 20 years and make fun of this period for.

/high fives all the chaco fans.

I had a shoe store a long, long time ago, and we were a pilot for chaco sandals.

Concerning brands, I go with a a lot of you ones you guy mention:

Teva spiders for climbing, chaco for vacation, cole haan for when you can get away with a 'dressy' flip flop.

I don't own any reef, but they are nice as well.

People are such babies now. I saw people should walk in flip flops and barefoot MORE, not less. People are so crutched by their shoes and babied by their "arch support" that they can't walk barefoot more than five minutes without crying.

2008-06-20 12:19:13 PM
I used to be very into the flip-flop, now I'm all for "flats". They also have zero arch support, but cover your toes and heel so you're not making that annoying flip-flop sound when you walk around.

/great for when you get annoyed easily
