(Some Guy)   The Louisiana House has voted 94-to-3 in favor of 'critical thinking' about evolution and origins of life. This should end well   (chronicle.com ) divider line

well, considering science classes are *suppose* to teach critical thinking, things should be fine. Shame on them for trying to hijack the concept as if we were not using it in the first place. Evolutionary theory is subjected to critical thinking all the time, and unless I've been really out of the loop this week, it's still a theory, not a hypothesis. Now, one would hope they included critical thinking about intelligent design in there to, because that hypothesis lasts about 10 seconds under scientific scrutiny.

Teaching critical thinking in schools!? AH HA HA HA HA! (catches breath)

If they did that, intelligent design, creationism, organized religion, Xenu, UFOlogy, magneto-therapy, and the Loch Ness Monster would all go on the ash heap of history.

But don't worry! After a few million taxpayer dollars are wasted defending this , it will be overturned in court. It will go away - until the next batch of lawyers wants to make more money.

Ah, conservatives. Spending your tax dollars for a "smaller government."

Bevets: Psalm 119.89 Your word, O Lord, is eternal; it stands firm in the heavens. 160 All your words are true; all your righteous laws are eternal.

First, Psalms is allegorical. It's poetry. It's a song. If you insist on a literal reading:

Psalm 1:1
Blessed is the man, who does not walk in the counsel of the wicked, or stand in the way of sinners, or sit in the seat of mockers.

I think God wants you to go away.

Bevets: Matthew 5.17 Do not think that I came to abolish the Law or the Prophets; I did not come to abolish, but to fulfill. 18 I tell you the truth, until heaven and earth disappear, not the smallest letter, not the least stroke of a pen, will by any means disappear from the Law until everything is accomplished.

If the previous writ of scripture is unchanged, then you must obey and follow the 613 Mitzvoh, right? The laws of Moses as decreed by God, and backed by the word of Christ - they must be inviolate, yes?

You don't plant trees in your church lawns right? (Deut. 16:21)
You don't wear a crucifix, or other idolatrous emblem, right? (Deut. 7:25-26)
You don't shave your sideburns, or trim your beard, right? (Lev. 19:27)
You practice ritual sacrifice, right? (Exodus 12:5-6)
You believe Slavery is acceptable, as decreed by God, right? (Lev. 25:45)

You do all of that, as supported by Christ, right?

Why do you knowingly lie about Sir Arthur Keith on your website?

skookum: And I've explained this many many times here, that in the next five to ten years it may well take efforts from enlightened citizenry to spot and turn in potential domestic terrorists. That's right. As McCain observed, they are following us home in an attempt to sabotage this country's infrastructure. I do believe I will be asked to be a neighborhood warden of sorts as these incidents become more of a concrete threat.

Why do I feel like I'm listening to Dwight Schrute from the office? This is a perfect parody of a paranoid, delusional person. Bravo!

The Corporation I like the weasel words used to equate people who are against this to being against critical thinking.

When people speak out against critical thinking, I think it's fair to say that they're against critical thinking.

Skook, I've never seen you get personal like this before, and I've also never seen you in a religion flamewar either. Changing your character around a bit?

Explain how your method of developing critical thinking in students is better than the current, and provide an explanation as to how that this bill (and the others like it) will rectify the problem.

I think it's fair to say you're against critical thinking too because you have yet to either demonstrate the capacity to do so and you have yet to endorse people who do so.

Oh well. The Legislature is up to its old tricks again. And we had such hopes that there was improvement.

Zeph - Let's say I'm somebody who believes that God exists and is the arbiter and sole source of truth in the universe. Let's also assume that I believe the Bible is the perfect word of God. I believe that creationism is true, and my evidence is the Bible. Because evolution is mentioned nowhere in the Bible, it must be false because there is no evidence for it.

Cars are not in the Bible either, but I definitely remember driving to work this morning.

In saying that Evolution does not exist because there is no mention of it in the Bible is the silliest thing that I may have ever read.

That comment is so incredibly closed-minded, and backward thinking that the print should be blown up, framed and mailed to every congressman in the country as to why ID should be kept the fark out of science class.

No wonder the other countries believe that the US has lost it's mind... we have people like that to back up their claims.
