This should become a debate staple. Give participants a computer, and give them challenges that ramp up progressively. Start with getting on the Internet and go from there.

Seriously. The quaint idea of a CIC that laughingly doesn't know how to operate technology that people use on a daily basis is now beyond the 'Ha ha' point and should be killed and buried. Starting with this Presidential election.

oldebayer: WTF's up with McCain's "I Hate War" commercial? Who is he running against, exactly, that loves war?

It's his way of saying, "You're all going to stay there indefinitely, but I don't like having to do it." So his words say he doesn't like war, but his actions say he lurves war.

This is ridiculous. Only positive thing that the McCain people can dredge out of "our candidate admitted he's an ancient moron" is that he didn't get caught in a Bush 41 supermarket checkout lane-type deal.

Great headline.

Why this is a bad sign, him being out of touch with the current reality of the people he wishes to lead, I also have to wonder if the POTUS is even allowed to use a computer, seems susceptible to being hacked, and or the reality that it would be harder to deny something he told a subordinate to do if it were sent by email and saved.

2008-06-11 09:36:46 PM
I'm sorry, John. I can't let you do that.

2008-06-11 09:43:06 PM
shaggenstein: or the reality that it would be harder to deny something he told a subordinate to do if it were sent by email and saved.

The Bush White House has already figured this out. Just claim you over-wrote the backup tapes that contained said e-mails and/or lost the backup tapes.

Nice to see that the ageism campaign moves on from the Obama team.

No part of the Presidency requires computer skills.

A person saying that he can't use a computer is approximately the same thing as saying that he can't use a touch-tone phone or pump his own gas.

Ageism is a valid contention, TrollMaster. His ability to do the job over the next 4 years is a very relevant issue to the election.

It just seems that anyone alive for the past 10 to 15 years would have been curious enough to have acquired at least a minimal skill set on a computer.

Holy mother of $#@&^*! pearl!

You got to be kidding me. This is not even funny.

First the great American scholar and intellectual giant Bush, and now this ancient jackass may be president. If this happens America will lose its grasp as a first-world country.

Better stock up on Chiclets

Plus, regardless of how much time he'd actually sit in front of a computer as president, it scares me to think that a 4-term senator wouldn't know how to use one.

Did he write his books using cuneiform on clay tablets?

McCainDemocrat: No part of the Presidency requires computer skills.

Much of the free world has access to a computer and the basic use of a computer is becoming more and more important in today's society.

It is quite embarrassing that the possible leader of our country freely admits that he doesn't know (nor care to learn) how to use one of the single most important inventions the world has ever known.

You're farking joking, right? Even cloistered nuns, with a rule that says not outside contact, know how to use computers. It's a basic skill, like driving a car - something else that a President doesn't have to do in the course of his job.

Would you elect a president who was too incompetent to get a driver's license?

I've been using a computer for less than 7 years.

My now deceased 68 year old mother had 40 years more computer experience than me. She got her start in the 60s using key punch cards, working for the State of New York.
