hmmm no Richardson?

I can't help but notice that my name was not on that list.

phreaknes: hmmm no Richardson?

Overlooking him because of the color of his skin, surely.

No Scarlett Johansson either. Disappointed.

phreaknes: hmmm no Richardson?

Clinton's supporters deem him a Judas, and Obama needs as many Clinton supporters as he can get. Richardson would just turn them off even more.

They're tired of this stupid men world.

I liked Webb on The Daily Show. if I hear more I like, I'd cast a vote of support for him.

No mention of Wesley Clark makes me a saaaaad panda.

I'm hoping he picks John Kerry. That sounds like a win/win!

Richardson also has a woman problem, he has a very public history of being a letch. I think he would be poison on the ticket.

Leave it to the Liberal media to "forget" to tell you about the 21st name on that list.

Apparently no Bill Richardson on the list. Damn.

That aside, if it's among those listed only, let's hope for Biden, Bayh, or Nunn. The rest are either not well known enough (Jones, Reed, Nelson), not well established enough (Strickland), too much of a potential lightning rod (Clinton, Kerry, Daschle) or are just "meh" candidates with nothing that will help enhance the ticket.

CougarJeff: I can't help but notice that my name was not on that list.

Obama/CougarJeff '08 just doesn't appeal to all the right constituencies.

Car_Ramrod: No mention of Wesley Clark makes me a saaaaad panda.

Yeah, WTF? Would have a great yin-yang thing going on.

You should not doubt Strickland. Of that list, he's probably in the top 5.

I did not know Richardson was hated. He was high on my list.

Car_Ramrod: No mention of Wesley Clark makes me a saaaaad panda.

Wesley Clark scares me. I wouldn't want him on the ticket.

Personally, I think the choice then, if Richardson is out, is Webb.

From Firstread...

Ret. Gen. James Jones, the former Marine-turned-NATO Supreme Allied Commander.

Jones, a Vietnam vet born in Kansas City, MO (swing state alert!), was a career military officer rising to one of the highest posts possible. Now retired, Jones has been critical of the number of troops currently in Afghanistan. He's been appointed to independent posts by both the Democratic Congress and the Republican-run State Department

Jones currently is the president and CEO of the Institute for 21st Century Energy, which is an affiliate of the US Chamber of Commerce, not exactly the type of organization a typical Democrat gets involved with. Potentially problematic is that he's on Chevron's board. He also serves on the boards of Boeing and Invacare, a manufacturer and distributor of medical equipment. (Invacare's slogan, ironically, is: "Yes, you can.")

Ah, I was conflating the two lists. I was miffed his name wasn't specifically mentioned in the other list. Huzzah for keeping my thin hopes up!

Still think it would be awesome if he picked a moderate Republican, like Crist, but there's a snowball's chance in hell of that happening.

Hey, isn't he the guy who did the voice for Darth Vader!? That'd be pretty cool...although we'd be replacing one Darth for another...

Car_Ramrod: A couple of people have mentioned they're not fans of him. Why are you against him?

Mostly because of Kosovo. He had wanted the airport for himself, and got angry that the Russians got it. He ordered his forces to go to the airport anyway, possibly risking Russian attack. His subordinates refused to carry out the orders. That, and in general, I am very wary of military commanders running civilian governments, as a rule of thumb. I like having civilians running the military. Yes, having military experience is nice, but having a former 4 star general is a little too much. And yes, I know we have had good military commanders in the past as presidents.

xanadian: Still think it would be awesome if he picked a moderate Republican, like Crist, but there's a snowball's chance in hell of that happening.

Less than a snowball's chance. Crist has been actively stumping for McCain for a while and is usually being tossed around as a VP choice for the Republicans. Although it would be hilarious if Obama stole McCain's running mate.

And while I'm posting, Nelson probably shouldn't be a top choice. He's essentially another Gore. He'd do more good in the Senate.

Like maybe a 2000 McCain that wouldn't go all senile and BushBot. Unfortunately, I don't know of any moderate Republicans that still exist in high government office, they have all been forced right.

2008-06-10 04:01:51 PM
Actually, I just found a really good reason not to pick Clark. He runs his own Political Action Campaign. Given Obama's stance on PACs, that would be extremely detrimental to his stand on that. WesPAC

Can a non-US citizen be veep? If so, he would be acceptable.

Forgot about him. Not bad, but I doubt he'd take the job.

And I just realized I said Political Action Campaign instead of Political Action Committee. Oops.

Just for fun, see if he accepts.

I've supported both of his Presidential runs. He may be making a play for it by instituting the Articles of Impeachment yesterday.

I'm not sure that would be the best way to attract independents and moderate Republicans.

Car_Ramrod: I'm not sure that would be the best way to attract independents and moderate Republicans.

My words, almost exactly.

Moderate Republicans and Independents know there's something rotten upstairs. It's the true believers and Fox News watchers, who would never vote for Obama anyway, that it will tee off.

I'm afraid I disagree. Current projections indicate a Democratic presidency, a near veto-proof majority in the House, and a filibuster-proof majority in the Senate. I'd like a moderate Republican voice in this. As much as I enjoy at least 2 years of easy fixing of the country, we've seen what happens when there is no effective opposition.

I suppose Jones is a good stand-in for Clark... about the same qualifactions without a lot of the Bosnia baggage. Plus, he wasn't in the bag for Clinton.

2008-06-10 05:20:02 PM
If you're being accused of running a cult of personality, picking a guy named JIM JONES may not be the best idea.

Picking an unknown general isn't the way to get things done here.

Webb ... George Webb?

I wonder if Big Boy, Jack, Ronald, or The King are on the list too.

I read Kathleen Sebelius' Wikipedia page and thought "gee, what a great VP possibility!" Moderate, Kansas, well liked by Republicans and Democrats alike, popular (D) governor in an (R) state...

Then I watched her response to the SOTU.

I thought she was trying to put the entire country to sleep by having us all watch her at the same time. It was like the precursor to an alien invasion in some sci-fi movie.

There won't be a filibuster-proof majority in the Senate. The Dems will have what, 56 seats, plus or minus 2. And that's if Lieberman stays with them- which is increasingly unliked.

As for the House... I strongly doubt the dems are getting... what is it, 290 seats?

It's annoying that it would be SO easy to list each of the possibilities with numbers beside them.'

But neither source does that. My, how confusing.

2008-06-10 06:15:16 PM
I like Stephanie Herseth Sandlin and Claire McCaskill for women candidates. James Jones is a great dark horse candidate, and could also neutralize the "Obama is not American" argument. I've also thought highly of Jack Reed.

2008-06-10 06:17:30 PM
Judging from that list, he really wants to win Virginia.

2008-06-10 06:17:43 PM
Why doesn't anyone care about McCain's running mate?
