Despite search operations with the use of up-to-date technology, including satellites and huge bribes for Afghan commanders, it was not possible to find any traces of the missing military men.

I had no idea huge bribes were considered "up-to-date technology".
2002-11-27 01:55:35 PM
why the "shhh" ??
2002-11-27 01:58:38 PM
May I be the first to say that I don't believe this.
2002-11-27 01:58:55 PM
Simple solution:

Just ask the parents of everyone who went over if their kids came back yet.

Alternitavely, get them all together in the gym and do roll call.
2002-11-27 01:59:16 PM
Oh my god. You mean that when you undertake military actions, soldiers get captured?

Next thing they'll try to say is that people actually DIE in war.

2002-11-27 02:00:29 PM
The "shh" is because the military likes to pretend the American War Machine is nearly perfect, and POW/MIAs are potential points of contention creating negative public relations. To admit their existence is to open the door to speculation and accusations of deal making like prisoner exchange, as is the case in this article, or negligence and cries of protest as was the case with Vietnam.

Still, these sources are questionable. It's Pravda reporting on a Paki paper that says it's a credible story just because a few prisoners were released by America. Sounds like they're reaching.
2002-11-27 02:01:18 PM
Huge bribes?

Col. Smith: I need to know where the American soldiers are being held.
Col. Akbar: Okay. Ahem. *puts out hand*
Col. Smith: *hands over $1,000,000 US*
Col. Akbar: Thanks.
Col. Smith: So?
Col. Akbar: So ... what?

Farkers: It was a trap!
2002-11-27 02:01:18 PM
Wow, that fake news is funny. Just like the Onion.
2002-11-27 02:01:37 PM
I'll second BobbyQ's notion. I'd trust the Weekly World News before anything published in Pravda.
2002-11-27 02:03:41 PM
Wasn't Pravda the paper that broke the story about the alien landing in Siberia?

Weekly World's probably just as reliable on this one.
2002-11-27 02:04:15 PM
Fuzzygirl18: It's there because Russia Makes it Funny.
2002-11-27 02:05:25 PM
In Soulviet Rushya, prisoner holds you!
2002-11-27 02:06:22 PM
Still, foreign papers are a good source for stories that aren't reported by the American media. I take any story reported by any media source with a grain of salt. Every reporter and editor has their bias.

2002-11-27 02:06:43 PM
Was Pravda the "news agency" that broke the story about Pooty-poot wanting to blow up the moon or was that the Weekly World News. I've lost track.
2002-11-27 02:07:35 PM

Exactly what I was thinking/going to say. You win.
2002-11-27 02:07:35 PM
Uncooperative locals hiding terrorists and kidnapping my friend NAPALM. You can't negotiate with ruthless people, they see it as a sign of weakness. It's time to hold an Afganistan Pig Roast in the mountains and caves. But, I agree this story is likely Bogus.
2002-11-27 02:08:10 PM
They're being held in Area 51.
2002-11-27 02:11:31 PM
The real story is at the bottom under "related links". Seems that gay sodomy is popular with the Afghan people.
2002-11-27 02:13:19 PM
Hundreds of American soldiers have died in combat in Afghanistan. This is rarely reported in the US media for obvious reasons (though the reporting is out there if you know where to look.)
2002-11-27 02:13:24 PM
I say give back the prisoners from Camp X-Ray. Just think how they'll be treated by their "comrades" once they return, they probably would be killed for giving up secrets.

Also, check out: Taliban
2002-11-27 02:18:18 PM
Hundreds of American soldiers have died in combat in Afghanistan.

2002-11-27 02:21:19 PM
I think they should be held. And tight as well. they are probably cold and hungry and need a little tenderness. An occasional bj would be good for them too.
2002-11-27 02:21:51 PM
On a wider question, anyone still think the war to capture Bin Laden (in which the country of Afhanistan was unfortunate collatoral damage) was a success.

With Bush planning his next war, shouldnt he try winning the first one?
2002-11-27 02:23:11 PM
Remember the Marine Expeditionary Unit that left Afganistan 6-8 months ago? I wonder what they are getting ready for if Afganistan was too boring for them.
2002-11-27 02:23:51 PM
This is a credible source, right?
2002-11-27 02:24:01 PM
With Bush planning his next war, shouldnt he try winning the first one?

To paraphrase Janice Joplin, "It's all the same farking war, man."
2002-11-27 02:28:22 PM
Harmonia, We have caught several high placed Al-Quada. Bin Laden is running scared and has been proven ineffective against Mainstreet USA to this point. This is progress against a determined enemy.
2002-11-27 02:29:10 PM
Pravda has actually proven to be a pretty reliable source since the fall of the Soviet Union. I give this some credence.

Why the "shhh?" Because anything like this would make Americans wake the fark up and realize that war isn't a video game, that people get caught and some get killed. And when they realize that they'll discard the macho bullshiat "lets Nuke Saddam" rhetoric and demand that their leaders stop kowtowing to the War Party.

Pretty simple really.
2002-11-27 02:30:35 PM
Jesus. So the friends and families of those dead soldiers just play along with the evil US gov't.

As much as the left hates to admit it, with the tremendous amount of freedom that the American press enjoys, you could never keep large numbers of dead a secret.

Of course, in many other countries, millions have 'gone missing' without a peep from the media or the gov'ts.

I am begining to think that the left in America is buying into some reversed American mythology. Where the streets of every other country in the world are paved with gold.
2002-11-27 02:31:21 PM
Bin Laden is running scared and has been proven ineffective against Mainstreet USA to this point.
That's a pretty major "knock on wood" statement there. *cough*bali*cough*
2002-11-27 02:33:08 PM
OK, I know this is a stupid question (and will probably be blasted for it), but is there a way to put a chip in military personel so we can track them if they're taken? I had it done to my dog.
2002-11-27 02:37:37 PM
ahem, Micah, he said mainstreet *USA* - unless there was a bombing at Bally Total Fitness that I am unaware of?
2002-11-27 02:39:16 PM
disclaimer: not that I agree with Tadpole. Just a comment.
2002-11-27 02:41:58 PM
Medf:Yep. Ive heard theyre going to attach it to one of the souilders molars, insted of dog tags. Not noticable, and the whole medical history would be avalible on a medics hand scanner.
2002-11-27 02:44:20 PM
The best thing for all Americans is to not believe anything we don't want to be true. We should get all of our information from Fox "News", and take everything the government tells us at face value.

Any foreign news source is an unreliable commie-pinko propoganda machine.

If you ask difficult questions, you obviously hate America
2002-11-27 02:45:16 PM
Isn't it bizarre that there are people in this thread who will adamantly deny that any us servicemen have been captured? That is just weird.

Do you people think that the american armed forces are some kinda super-perfect divine force or something? Of course some of them are missing.

Maybe if you give your conservative friend John McCain a call, he can help you. He used to be very interested in finding POW/MIAs. Word is that he lost interest.
2002-11-27 02:46:56 PM
Those chips aren't locators, they're just identifiers.

Oberon: So nobody but Americans matter?
2002-11-27 02:54:35 PM
Whomprat: Yeah, that's what I said. You're an idiot.
2002-11-27 03:01:17 PM
Why do only Americans matter? Are Australians not white enough for you?
2002-11-27 03:03:36 PM
Never mind. I can't believe I'm taking crap from a guy with a Knight Rider site.
2002-11-27 03:04:12 PM
Psst...Wh0mprat, Oberon's last comment was sarcastic.
2002-11-27 03:13:30 PM
Micah- "Bin Laden is running scared and has been proven ineffective against Mainstreet USA to this point.
That's a pretty major "knock on wood" statement there. *cough*bali*cough*"

Have we forgotten that the guy who bombed the Atlanta Olympics has been evading capture since 1998 and he is in North Carolina:
If we can't catch him in our own country, why would anyone think it would be reasonable to find someone in another country?

I think Bin Laden is resonably safe from capture. We should recall all those troops and use them to find this Eric Rudolph guy.
2002-11-27 03:17:09 PM
Oh, and then maybe they can be dispatched to find Bigfoot, because I've always wanted to see a Bigfoot.
2002-11-27 03:25:05 PM
Whomprat: You're jealous of KITT, aren't you?
2002-11-27 03:26:29 PM
2002-11-27 03:30:08 PM
Oberon: Naah. KARR, now HE was badass.
2002-11-27 03:30:38 PM
Once my neighbors old high school gym teacher said he knew this one guy that had a niece who went out with a man that said he knew Pravdas recources might possibly be reliable.
2002-11-27 04:11:55 PM
KARR was an abomination. Sort of like Australians.
2002-11-27 04:14:49 PM
It's amazing how the New York Times and CNN, who just love to trash Bush's war on terrorism, have somehow missed this hundreds of American GI's missing in action story. What a great "scoop" for some 3rd rate Paki newspaper reporter.
2002-11-27 04:24:01 PM
Not that the US's news reporting is the best or most truthful, but they've been looking for every reason to bash Bush and this "military mindset" they see as residing in Washington.
Should there actually be ANY US soldiers missing, or more than those accounted for dead, I'm 100% certain it would be in the media.

Saying the information is "out there if you know where to look for it" is like saying I know aliens landed because I read it in a paper. Which paper? I dunno...a paper, you have to use every source, man. Well, what's your source? I dunno, it was with other newspapers at the supermarket.

OK, so which sources are you willing to believe? Personally, I believe the soldiers who are coming home and sharing their experiences and there hasn't been word one of any missing soldiers.
A government conspiracy to cover up? Sort've like the 5000 other government conspiracies that we know about that we aren't supposed to know about. Sorry, I need better proof.

I don't doubt there can be people killed/captured when at war. It's natural. But there isn't any good reason why we wouldn't have known about it. Hell, we got a detailed description of the seaman who got his throat slit when he fell out of the helicopter. If they're willing to print that, they're willing to print anything.
Who thinks the US media is hiding something? Just the usual conspiracy aluminum foil asshats.
2002-11-27 04:25:42 PM
If KARR was really programmed for self preservation then why did he choose to drive off the cliff after playing chicken with KITT instead of the open lane? And why does a goatee make one an evil twin?
2002-11-27 04:26:09 PM
Oh yeah, and fuzzygirl18 is HOTT
2002-11-27 04:27:38 PM
Amazing that not one wife, son, daughter, parent, or fellow soldier has contacted any of the hundreds of newspapers, magazines, or television networks to say that someone is missing and the government is covering it up.
2002-11-27 04:28:23 PM
Somehow I doubt the Taliban or Al Queda would bother taking US soldiers prisoner. They'd just kill them for being Americans.
2002-11-27 04:41:49 PM

Amen to that. Aussies are nothing but a bunch of fat, hairy, ugly beer-swilling sexist pigs. And that's just the women.
2002-11-27 06:33:40 PM

Wouldn't surprise me at all, if such topics as this, would be no-no, in the US media.
2002-11-27 08:23:31 PM
I didn't know the weenies took prisoners, I thought they just shot them like they did that Navy Petty officer. Must just be me reading between the lines or something.
2002-11-28 01:08:46 PM
Nerf, that audit is OLD news, not to mention much biased to begin with.
Even so, ranking 12th out of all those countries is pretty darn good. Sure, US standards could be higher, but it beats the heck out of being Russian. Which I believe this article originates from?
