i got a neighbour with a cockatoo... i would love to shoot the farking noisy shiatbag...

2002-11-27 09:04:45 AM
Is it me or is the tagline misleading? After reading the article, I understood it to be about police officers who are going to be trained to learn tactics to deal with dogs, since they routinely encounter them and most of the time, officers will reach for their firearm if attacked instead of controlling them.

FLA Chickie YOU are correct!! Imagine that - a misleading headline in FARK...

When I moved from Cleveland to Jonesboro Ark, there were these nieghborhood kids who took dogs and cats, tied one end of the animal to a utility pole & the other end to a car bumper. They also liked to stick firecrackers in toads and cat sphincters.

What struck me most was how they'd also talk about what strong Christians they were. They're parents dismissed their acts as 'pranks' and said it "wasn't that bad. Animals don't have souls anyway."

That was 25 years ago and I still don't understand that type of thinking...

I don't think I could ever truely like or trust someone who couldn't love an animal.

Tag should read:

"Police ARE the asshats who are shooting neighborhood dogs"

2002-11-27 10:33:49 AM
Bad headline...

If any dog attacks me and I have a gun, goodbye dog. Period.

2002-11-27 10:35:51 AM
Well, they gotta shoot them. Cause the pepperspray they have is totaly ineffective against....waitaminit....

2002-11-27 10:36:06 AM
Misleading or not....I hate people. :)

2002-11-27 10:36:24 AM
asshat cops....

2002-11-27 10:36:50 AM
bunch of dumbasses. The one cop had shot five dogs according to that article. the ASSHAT obviously has a fear of dogs. Some dickhead shoots MY dog because he's doing what he's supposed to, protecting me and my property, he better hope he stays away from me, cause i'll shoot them.

2002-11-27 10:37:43 AM
Police shooting loose dogs? Tag should be , if you ask me.

You love your dog? You want him to die a slow death after being hit by a car? You want to go to court after he's chewed up some little kid? No? THEN TIE THE farkER UP!!!

2002-11-27 10:38:51 AM
If the dogs in my neighborhood don't stop crapping in my yard and getting into my garbage, you'll be reading about me shooting them!

2002-11-27 10:39:32 AM
Officer Christopher Kawa is a farking serial dog killer

2002-11-27 10:39:57 AM
Tip for the cops.

Look for the individual(s) with guns drawn and pointed at dogs.

Can I have my reward now?

2002-11-27 10:42:22 AM
Dogs are people too!

2002-11-27 10:44:24 AM
Dog murderer.

2002-11-27 10:46:04 AM
Dogs are people too!

Goober, I've never met any people who will walk up to me when I'm minding my own business, sniff my ankle, and then take a chunk out of it.

I do the problem is not bad dogs, but bad owners.

2002-11-27 10:47:38 AM
er, that should be "I do think the problem..."

Where's that Fark Post Editor, anyway?

2002-11-27 10:50:34 AM
Shoot and ask questions later

To all those who are "put out" by roaming dogs:

I agree, they can be annoying at the least and sometimes quite intimidating. But it's not the dogs fault that its asshat owner doesn't take proper care of it.

I don't agree with putting a dog on a chain all day, so I built a big ass fence around my back yard where my doggies can run and play. Sure, they bark when someone comes near the property, because it is their job to protect their territory.

So please, don't be all pissed off at the dog. There is likely a low-life trash piece of sh!t that the dog belongs to. Find them and shoot at will.

Ice-T got in a lot of trouble for his song "Cop Potential-Biter" They felt it was a threat to law enforcement and Charleton Heston came out against the potential biting of police officers.

2002-11-27 10:56:39 AM
This cop wasn't shooting stray dogs, he was shooting them on their own property.

Where's the Newman picture?

2002-11-27 10:57:56 AM
Some officers definitely need to use more caution than they do.

"i got a neighbour with a cockatoo"

I guess that'd be surprising if the neighbor was female /downtowndowner'sgrove

2002-11-27 11:03:44 AM
This should have the Asinine tag. Cops "have" to shoot the dogs? They have no other options? I have 3 dogs. Trust me. There are other options.

2002-11-27 11:11:57 AM
Emilykp - What other options are you talking about? I'm not trying to flame or be an ass, I'm just curious.

I dunno, if I was a cop, and a dog was gonna attack me, the last thing I'm worried about is the dog's safety. I wouldn't let it harm me in order to protect the dog. If it comes down to me or the dog, it's gonna be the dog.

2002-11-27 11:13:49 AM
I agree, we don't shoot enough dogs....

2002-11-27 11:17:11 AM
Im sure the police are going to search for the asshats for a LONG TIME. Hehehe

2002-11-27 11:18:44 AM
asshats=cops?

2002-11-27 11:20:37 AM
My question is, how are they dealing with the stray kittens that might attack officers? I mean, are they shooting the kittens? You know, killing the kittens? Get it? Killing kittens? Because that would be so funny. Ha ha. Hoo hoo.

2002-11-27 11:23:08 AM
Just because a dog is barking or heading towards you, doesn't mean that they are going to attack you. Dogs, by nature, are curious. You can tell the dog to sit or stay or tell it down or something to that end. Also, if a dog does freak out and does try to attack a cop while the cop is in their yard, guess what? The dog is doing its job. Dogs are territorial. They see someone who doesn't belong in their yard and they bark and they charge. They can't tell the difference between a cop and a robber. They just know this person does not belong. Ok, I do realize that cops may not have the time to stop and give commands to the dog. So, maybe the cops should carry the spray that some mailmen carry. It just keeps the dogs away from you.

2002-11-27 11:24:19 AM
Dogs have jobs!?!?

Now i've heard everything...

2002-11-27 11:30:25 AM
Two words.

Black.Cops.

2002-11-27 11:33:08 AM
Sounds like our Detroit PD. Except these asshats hit each other when they are shooting up the local dogs. Happened just last week. Dumbasses.

Usually though, they are too busy shooting unarmed people.

2002-11-27 11:38:47 AM
When I go for a jog, I always remember to pack my pepper spray.

I've never met a dog that still barked at me after I sprayed it with pepper spray. It's subdues the dog and leaves no damage to the dog.

Besides, guns always attract the dogs owner..

2002-11-27 11:41:43 AM
Police attribute the high number to the officer's involvement in drug-enforcement cases in which suspects often use dogs to guard their homes.

I remember meeting a rather viscious canine example when I was introduced to the guard dog used by professional security firms involved in protecting a warehouse.

Basically this thing had been trained to attack anything that came near it, it would only eat from a chewed-up yellow bowl and would only allow one of three trainers to touch it. The idea being you let this monster lose on the property at night and clean up the bits of burglar in the morning.

If people are using dogs in this way then it is not the fault of the police. Similarly in the cited example in the article involving 2 pit-bulls, clearly people often let their doggies go off the rails occasionally.

I worry about this a lot. Even when friends come over my german shepherd charges the fence, bares her teeth, growls, barks, etc. The first time someone comes over it scares the hell out of them. The second time they just tell her to knock it off, reach over the fence at the snarling dog and pet her. It's not the safest thing to do since she is exhibiting aggressive behaivor, but they know she won't hurt them.

A cop would never know what a push-over she is and, given her size, would probably shoot her. She is getting better at her reaction towards strangers in her yard but you can't teach a dog not to protect you, or not to feign protection anyway. I love my pup but would understand the cop's reaction. They just can't risk it. (Of course, if a cop were to really shoot my baby I don't think I'd be so level headed.)

2002-11-27 11:45:43 AM
my dog would lick someone to death first. he's a lover.

2002-11-27 11:48:33 AM
MilkIt
I don't know whether or not to laugh or kick you. By the dog "doing its job", I meant, what it is trained for or what it knows instintively. As Shreen said, you can not teach a dog not to protect you. That is what I meant but, now that I think of it, dogs do have jobs. There are guard dogs at museums, warehouses, etc. Other dogs are trained to sniff out drugs and explosives. Also, maybe you have heard of Guide Dogs? I certainly think those qualify.

2002-11-27 11:53:55 AM
WindyCityGrrl ,
What type of dog do you have?

2002-11-27 12:07:39 PM
Emilykp...i have a suggestion, why don't you bite me?

2002-11-27 12:21:12 PM
I miss the days of my youth when I could wander the neighborhood with my dog running around with me. But, hey - a lot of things were different then. These days, if you live in anything remotely resembling an urban or suburban area, there are leash laws, and, believe it or not, they're to protect the animals, too. If any of the dogs in the article were either tied to something, or (better yet)indoors, they would still be alive. I'm not going to second-guess the cops because there's not enough information in the article, but pepper spray? I suppose it may work on just-curious dogs, but do you think a pit bull cares what its eyes feel like once it's got its jaws around your arm?

Oh, and yeah - I know leash laws do not apply when the dog is on your property, but come on - how many dogs will actually stay on your property if not tied to something? Very few, IMO. We all pretty much know that these loose dogs are the result of irresponsible owners.

One final thought - if you don't want the cops shooting your dog, don't give them a reason to be at your house.

2002-11-27 12:21:23 PM
No thanks. Then you might have to shoot me.

2002-11-27 12:34:36 PM
you don't have to bite me for me to shoot you...

2002-11-27 12:49:47 PM
See MilkIt , you are the poster child for one of America's biggest problems, total farking morons who are allowed to own guns.

2002-11-27 12:50:14 PM
Tomorrow on FARK...Emilykp and MilkIt in bizarre murder/suicide.

2002-11-27 12:50:34 PM
If a dog's loose and running around, that's one thing. Use pepper spray, though. But if my dog is on my property fenced in or tied up, I don't give a fark what "reason" the cop has to be there, there's no justification for shooting a dog.

2002-11-27 01:16:41 PM
I don't care if the cop was attacked or not - he had NO RIGHT to shoot Tori Spelling.

2002-11-27 01:19:49 PM
As an animal lover myself, I think this is a good thing.
I think normal civilians should have the right to put down any annoying animal they come across. - That way, the owners will be MUCH more responsible for their creatures.

Don't like the dog taking a dump in your yard? BLAST!
Don't like the sqawking bird next door? BLAST!
Don't like the foul rank odor from the rabbit collection next door? BLAST!

People need to realize that animals don't co-habitat nicely with the human world. As much as our children would like to fantasize about talking to their pet or something crazy like that, think about how pleasant the neighborhood would become if you could, without question, end the life of any little varmit you ran across while you were out for your jog.

People are supposed to control the Earth- not newborn puppies controlling the people.

2002-11-27 01:22:48 PM
I think these cops are giving themselves reasons to shoot. It's very rare that an officer is even ABLE to draw his gun, let alone shoot something. Honestly, I don't know the statistics but I do know that they almost NEVER have to shoot anyone/anything on the job.

With shooting dogs, they can justify it all they want and get away with it. Hell, the dog is dead, all they hafta say is "it was charging me"..

Also, if the cops were so "in the right" with shooting the dogs, there wouldn't even be an issue about it AND they sure wouldn't be looking into different ways the cops can deal with them.

lol @ Vetbridge That was funny.
