I used to fly every few months because it was quick, relatively inexpensive and easy. I gave that up after everything changed. I've got no patience to deal with idiots that landed themselves a career groping people while wearing rubber gloves and a tin badge. Since they've got the power cause people to miss their flight (or have them arrested for any reason they care to make up), it's just not worth the hassle or risk.

Sorry airline industry; TSA killed ya.

You know what TSA is? I'll tell you what it is. It's the most boring ass job you'll ever want to do, made worse by the gung-ho farkwads telling mothers to take booties off their newborn.

It's doing bag checks for a .5 oz bottle of Visine simply because it wasn't in a clear zip-lock.

It's dealing with the same idiotic questions/ comments from passengers?

"Where do I check in for Delta?"

"ahhhh...right there at that counter with the huge lettered icon DELTA 25 feet in front of you."

It's reading ITG comments here from guys who would rip into any TSA officer for any slight whatsoever, and yet never in the 6 years of TSA'ing have I ever seen an ITG stand up for any of his so called stolen civil rights, pouting not with standing.

phillydrifter: Fluffy_the_cactus: reacted without thinking

That's where you lose me. I don't 'react without thinking' (unless it's reflexive action like someone throwing a ball at my head) and no one i know 'reacts without thinking.'

It's entirely possible to simply react on instinct. It's also entirely possible to react, I suppose a better way to put it would be, without thinking ahead of the possible consequences.

Oh, and my sole joy isn't making people miserable, either (I know you didn't say that Phillydrifter), and I really resent being stereotyped because of someone's ignorant perception of an entire group of people. I am intelligent, I am reasonable, and I also resent the idea that the reason why I chose my job was to grope people. Jesus, how the fark did some of you crotchfruits come into existence?

This is kind of stupid. Haven't we all known that shouting bomb in an airport can get you in trouble for years and years even before 9/11? And TFA says he continued to shout about bombs after they asked him to stop and THAT is when security was called.

I mean you can dislike the rules or whatever but you can't pretend they don't exist and this seems kind of excessive. There are signs everywhere.

Terrorists have been using commercial aircraft as targets for years. They are now using them as delivery systems for explosives and perhaps even gas, chemical, biological and nuclear weapons.

I think that a little delay and inconvenience is a small price to pay to do what we can to combat this. If you, "I'm too important to wait in line" Farkers want someone to blame then blame Militant Islam.

I wonder what the courts would say to a person who was arrested for refusing to disrobe their normal attire for airport "security."

I can't help but think it's a guaranteed payday (albeit delayed) for the right person with the right clothes.

No, no, don't get adamant, simply refuse, get denied your flight, then take your fight to the courts. (Helps if you didn't want to go on the trip anyway!)

Barbecue Bob: Ever notice nobody hijacks aircraft anymore?

Happened somewhere on Earth rather often when I was a kid. Now, not so much.

Hate airport security, but whatever, I'm over it.

New type of problems require an evolution of solutions.

Dude, the reason nobody hijacks planes anymore is that since 9-11, instead of riding it out and figuring they'll probably be released eventually, the passengers will farking bumrush the terrorists. In the old days, you'd figure you'd probably be released eventually. Now, everyone would figure they're going to be crashed into something if they don't charge.

The changes to security haven't been solutions for the most part; they've been security theater, intended to make us think something substantive is actually being done.

phillydrifter: The contracts manager ... yelled at staff "I have got a belt, not a bomb".

If I heard that from 50,100 feet away I wouldn't be sure of what I heard, but I'd know i heard the word 'bomb' and would summarily cancel my flight.

If you heard that from better than fifty thousand feet away you'd have really damned good hearing.
/Yes, I know what you meant. This is much funnier.

Lordmontu: DgtlCalm: And or common sense dictates that certain things may get you in trouble, and or treated differently and generally are not good thing to say out loud. Getting upset and declaring "Its not like I have a bomb" while in an airport may not be one of the most brilliant things to declare. Kind of like getting pulled over by a cop and declaring "Its not like I have a drugs" when he asks for license and registration...don't be to shocked if you get treated differently.

The difference: You will be arrested and fined for saying "It's not like I have a bomb."

The cop still needs to find drugs on you to be able to do anything.

The difference: You are not actually getting "arrested" 9 times out of 10 at an airport. You won't be taken to jail, you won't have charges filed against you. At the airport, you will be taken to some security office and told you cannot be on this or that flight unless they do find a bomb on you.

2008-06-07 09:43:07 PM
I don't have a problem with this.

If a grown man can't make it through a security line without using the word "bomb" then he is too stupid to fly. I've flown dozens of times without saying "bomb" or "raping your children".

""There was an exchange of views after which he (Bjoennes) removed the belt and threw it into the receptacle for it to go through the X-ray machine," said Mr Allan.

Bjoennes went through the metal detector but was then stopped for a random security search."

The guy's an asshat but an understandable one. Airport security started it though. Everyone involved needs to be fined.

2008-06-07 09:53:00 PM
Barbecue Bob: Ever notice nobody hijacks aircraft anymore?

Nobody hijacks aircraft anymore because there isn't a reasonable assumption of safety on the part of the hijacked. In the past, generally you were flown around and would be released. Since 9/11, if you're involved in a hijacking, you're going to assume that you're going to die, and this have nothing to lose by fighting back.

If you were robbed at gunpoint, you'd hand over your wallet. If you were robbed at gunpoint and had a pretty good idea that your assailant was going to rape and murder you, you would fight back as well.

This isn't the only reason of course- hijackings were down before 9/11- but you bet we won't see any more successful hijackings because people will fight against their captors.

Unfortunately, the train system won't get off their asses and take advantage of it. I looked up taking a train instead and the bastards wanted a two day layover in Chicago from east to west coast. I'd rather be groped by a leprosy infected Mexican at the airport than spend two days in Chicago.

I have no clue who you are, what you do, or what you take with you.

But my company flies people and goods (10k+ us$) every week. None of our employees have ever reported having any problem getting out of the US, regardless of what they looked like, what they carried, what they baggaged, etc. Even the 1 day employees, who have never flown, never have problems. Our employees range from Whitest-white-bread to 'omg jihad blow up plane' darkies.

Perhaps...just perhaps...the people who cannot understand clearly posted (multiple times!!) rules...are the idiots. Not TSA employees.

But please, resume your blind bashing of things.

I think you revealed a lot about the average American "value system" in your post more than you think you did. We're willing to endure almost anything except a temporary inconvenience. And when it comes to choosing between two conveniences, the greater doesn't matter, it's which one is more time consuming that's important. That isn't good or bad, that's just the way it is.

I see there are many on this thread that have succumbed to the Authority of the airports. What a sad world we live in indeed.

Better watch out, don't say hello to Jack, cause the big bad government will throw you under the jail cause you mad them ascared. If the morons had been doing their jobs on the morning of 9/11 instead of thinking about last night's sports game, we wouldn't have to go barefootin in the airport.

Not entirely. I also did the math and ended up driving. It was cheaper than the plane ticket and faster than the train. When you can drive coast to coast faster than Amtrak can get you there, there's a problem.

When did we get the power to arrest someone? Can I use that power on some of my co-workers? Please???

Nocens, yeah, I agree that's pretty messed up. I'm with you on the driving thing. I love driving wherever I'm going. I can stop at any point and take pictures (I'm a bit of a photographer), and I can just... do what I please. I don't like the airport hassle (and I'm not talking about security. That part's easy as logging onto fark). It's also expensive, and I enjoy spending relaxed time with my family, which is more likely to happen on the road than on the air. The journey is the experience, the destination is a side-track. ;)

That isn't even the accurate quote, either. He butchered it. It's: "They who would give up an essential liberty for temporary security, deserve neither liberty or security"

Here, let me repeat that with certain words emboldened. "They who would give up an essential liberty for temporary security, deserve neither liberty or security"

Just once, I'd love to hear about a burger-flipper recognizing a TSA agent buying a burger and performing a little turn-about.

TSA Agent: I'd like a burger, large fries, and a large coke, please.

McCashier: Yes, sir. please empty your pockets into this basket. I'll be needing your shoes and belt as well.

TSA Agent: WTF?!? This isn't an airport!!

McCashier: No sir, but there are as many people here as you'd find on your typical flight. We have to take precautions too, you know. If you don't have anything to hide, there shouldn't be any problem. Now please cooperate, or I'll be forced to call the local police.

etc.

my palms were slick with sweat. I choked back the adrenaline rush tasting the fear, feeling, knowing that every eye in the place was focused on me. But the mission, the mission was the only thing that mattered. I felt as if my legs were going to shake themselves apart, I was almost paralyzed with fear. Somehow I willed myself to go on. I knew that this was it. I was going to the airport without a bomb. If they caught me, it would be the end.... THE END!
