LAAAAAAAAAAAARRRRRYYYYYYYYYY!!

Seriously, other than bulldg4life who gives a crap about ol' Larry?

Chipper Jones made me buy MLB.tv so I can watch him hit .400 even though I'm in Canada.

Meet Us at the Stick: Seriously, other than bulldg4life who gives a crap about ol' Larry?

Well, he is leading in all-star balloting for NL third basemen. So, I'd say a couple hundred thousand people give a crap.

Being one of the 3 greatest switch hitters in the history of baseball probably doesn't hurt either.

Speaking of giving a crap, Chipper is probably the only person on the planet that will be sad to see Shea stadium destroyed. But please, keep the chants up!

Larry Wayne.. you get in this dugout this minute!

the guys a stud.

I think I'd put him at about 5th with Mantle, Rose, Murray and Raines ahead of him.

Will someone explain to me how, after 12 years (or whatever) of playing this game at the highest possible level, this Jones guy feels the need to step it up to these proportions?

Seriously, is this guy for real?

Chipper, its June buddy, you can let it slide a little.

.418 last I checked.

I am making a big deal out of this cause as a diehard cards fan, all I have to cheer about is Pujols hitting a paltry .346.

So far, it is a truly historic season for the Jones family.

puffy999: Awesome player, silly nickname.

You've never been to the South have you. No, and I don't mean Texas. I'm talking about the parts of the country where if you're a black driver, your GPS blinks and tells you to turn around.

All jokes aside, Chipper will be a first ballot Hall of Famer, along with Smoltz, Glavine, and Maddux. The Braves of the 90's, like it or not, were a dynasty.

2008-06-06 01:47:00 AM
The other day on ESPN I hears something along the lines of he could go 0 for his next 75 at bats and still be over .300. That's just sick.

and i've heard talk from "expert" mlb analysts that he's not quite HOF material. they should give me a vote b/c chipper is Definatly a hall of fame player. i hope he hits 400 this year to cement his induction

Yeah, really. Why on earth would anyone be even remotely interested in someone batting .418 over two months into the season?

Idiot.

Doesn't being a sports dynasty usually require winning championships? That is to say, more than one during the "dynasty"?

Thats funny, I count 14 NL East titles and 5 NL Championships. Throw in the one WS win and that puts them at nice round 20

kudos to larry by the way. I bought mlb.tv a week ago to this happen

No, I haven't been to Watts.

Deadhouseplants: The Braves of the 90's, like it or not, were a dynasty.

Sadly, one of the biggest "what could have been" teams ever.
But hey, at least they won one World Series... the Mariners couldn't even get close with Griffey, ARod, and Randy Johnson.

2008-06-06 04:09:06 AM
And as I said in another thread... three starting pitchers who combine to have a World Series ERA under 2.5 should NOT go a combined 3-13 in their 16 starts. The pitchers did their job in the series, and their guys just didn't back them up.

2008-06-06 04:33:44 AM
Dynasty? The Braves were just lucky they got to play Cleveland once in the Series. You can't hardly lose that one.

Chipper is a whole other thing. Hitting .418 in June, and you're a power hitter? He's in George Brett territory now. See you in the Hall, Chippy Man.

2008-06-06 04:50:36 AM
But did he father any children?

Yea, but his name is still Chipper

Hmm...of all that you just mentioned, there is sadly just 1 championship. Five pennants and 14 division titles (not all NL East, btw) only make an impressive streak of finishing the playoffs in second place or worse, which is not a dynasty.

No way is Chipper a hall of famer, unless he can get himself up past 500 homeruns or 3000 hits

2008-06-06 09:08:56 AM
I care. Chipper is awesome. He's batting over .400 in JUNE. FREAKIN JUNE. I mean, you've gotta be kidding me. Oh, also the 400 makes him, as a switch hitter, one of 3, including Mickey Mantle.

Chipper Jones will be in Cooperstown no matter what

Being a switch hitter doesn't make him any better. In the context of the people he's played against, he's not a hall of famer with these numbers.

2008-06-06 09:15:30 AM
Kick ass Chipper.

On a side note, I used to live a short drive away from Pierson, where Chipper grew up. There's a diner in Barberville that has damn near every picture anyone has ever taken of the guy autographed on the wall. I can say that I'm much happier to have been in DeBary as opposed to say, Pierson or DeLeon Springs.

/Go Braves!

Not a HOF'er? Really? Do you know anything about baseball? Lifetime BA over .300, 400 HR's, OPS .960, NL MVP, One Ring.

Higher Career BA than Rose, Mantle, Murray

Even gong by who's already in the Hall of Fame...

He's got better numbers than George Brett,Wade Boggs, and Mike Schmidt. They all went in as 3rd basemen. Like Chipper will.

2008-06-06 09:45:03 AM
For all their talent, the Braves of the 90's are one of the greatest choke machines ever.

You're not a dynasty unless you win WS championships. Division champs doesn't mean anything except that you couldn't close the deal.

The Bobby Cox Braves have only won one WS, and that was just because they were playing Cleveland.

I root for Chipper to fail miserably when playing the Phillies... but I fully admire and respect him for his talent and ability. (Same for Smoltz, BTW, since I missed the thread a couple of days ago.)

Speaking of which, the Phils are in Atlanta for the next few days, so I hope he goes 0-12 the whole weekend. (Either that, or he's the only Brave that actually does anything.)

Can anyone confirm the quality of the picture being "TV" quality. I bought the best version last year and was very disappointed how the picture looked on my 40 inch LCD.

As a ardent Mets fan, I've had the privilege of watching Larry kill my team for 13 years. He should be in the hall just because he named his son Shea.

/Oh, and everything Cannon mentioned too.

Phils are gonna sit him down this weekend.

2008-06-06 09:57:05 AM
400 HRs in a day? That's gotta be a record....

Not a Braves fan, but with the numbers Chipper Jones has put up, I'd be surprised if he's not a first-ballot HOFer.

The Phillies scare me right now. I'm just glad we don't have to face Hamels. I'd honestly be ok with if we won a game out of this series. But two would be great.

Putting up 400 homeruns and a .310 BA is nothing in this age. Just in this generation alone there are tons of players who deserve to get in before him
Frank Thomas, Manny Ramirez, Alex Rodriguez, Derek Jeter, Pedro Martinez, Tom Glavine, Greg Maddux, Jeff Bagwell (maybe, steroids?), Craig Biggio, Randy Johnson, Albert Pujols, and I'm sure there's more I'm missing. Also Jones puts up a paltry 7 on the black ink test, suggesting he's merely a product of longevity rather then being a great player.

Chipper got his nickname as a kid because he was a "chip off the old block" of Larry, Sr.

Really, Craig Biggio? 291 Hr BA .281 yeah those are monster numbers. Your defense for Chipper not going to the HOF is saying other players deserve it before him. Frank Thomas has been a DH for how long now? Not saying he doesn't deserve to go but he's also played 7 seasons more than Chipper. Pujols is like 28 years old so his career isn't even close to being over. Manny Ramirez is not a baseball player, he's a hitter. To be a player you to be able to play defense. Jeter's got the rings, but not the numbers Chipper does. Bagwell doesn't have Chipper's numbers either. You can't even compare pitchers to skill postions. Apples and Oranges.
