Meanwhile, a lot of good Americans have to decide whether it's going to be food or gas this week...

As much as you love to hate them their money is what also leads to people doing those highlights and flying and fixing those planes.

Though it may may make you feel warm and fuzzy inside knowing the rich are having only the slightest of tough times it certainly doesn't help the poor.

What the hell does being "good" have to do with being successful?

The people that provide those goods and services, though, are feeling the pinch. The uber-rich don't exist in a vaccum. I mean, I don't feel any pity for the uber-rich at all, but if some uber-rich person's gardener gets canned, I'm not laughing at the gardener.

I can see the rich being affected, but the truly uber rich have more money than God. When they have to cut back on lighting cigars with $100 bills and instead light them with $20's, let me know.

Say what you will about trickle down economics. One thing always holds true. Shiat slides downhill.

If you think that the people doing the actual work are reaping the benefits of the rich peoples' money, you're missing a step in your analysis.

/Trickle down economics seems to pool at a certain level quite far above that of the worker.

TFA: One of her clients recently confessed that his net worth had decreased to $8 million from more than $20 million, and he thinks that his wife will leave him. He has hidden their fall in fortune by taking on debt to pay for her extravagant clothes and vacations.

BWAHAHA. What a loser, words can't describe how pathetic this is.

If I thought my wife would leave me because I'm not worth more than $8 million, I'd kick the biatch to the curb without a second thought.

"If they have to give up things that are invisible, they're O.K. as long as they don't have give up things visible to the outside world."

They try to move their $165 sessions with personal trainers to a time slot that they know is already taken. They agree to tour multimillion-dollar apartments and then say the spaces don't match their specifications.

Other wealthy clients are cutting luxuries that they think their friends and relatives won't notice, according to Mr. Del Gatto of Circa.

There you have it, most of the excess is purely showing off. I can't imagine being so concerned about what other people think that I'd spend myself into financial ruin.

Touring apartments you can't afford, just to look richer than you are? Sad.

Remember the main character in Caddyshack, who was trying to get a college scholarship through working at the country club?

Yeah, well picture they're closing the golf course now and selling the land because nobody can afford to keep the place going. That kid will have to settle for Wal-Mart and CoCo school.

Hooray for wiping out the luxury market!

Rub it in Richie Rich, with you high fallutin sofa cushions and toilet paper and what not. I bet you even buy your clothes in a store.

give me your money. You are too stupid to spend it wisely.

Signed, America.

this is how you know the New York Times is the newspaper for the affluent liberals. They've done several stories in the past few months on the uber-rich. When the economy is good, they bemoan the difference between the super-rich and the "merely rich".

And they wonder why their circulation is dropping.

Well, it isn't rational, so it's ok.

If all the uber rich died tomorrow, and their money was spread among the peasants, America would hum along quite nicely.

I could not care less about the rich having to cut back on luxuries, but it sucks ass that the middle and lower class people providing those luxuries are probably gonna lose their jobs.

Yeah, unfortunately, I kind of work in a luxury industry (wine), and I've definitely noticed a difference since this time last year. However, if you've gone from 20 mil to 8 mil, what the hell have you been spending on?

There are very few highly rich. Not that many people are their direct support structure. The indirect support structure has other business. The severe impact of the rich on the economy was disproven in the 80s.

Can someone point out exactly where "the economy" is bad? I'm not seeing it.

Unless your standard of living is dependent on cashing out equity from a house, things are going fairly well.

I say Buffy, care for some more puppy sandwiches.

No thanks, Biff. Due to the recession we can't afford to eat puppies. We can only get minorities.

$100k/year makes you rich?
