OK, I officially give up. What is the deal with the Mediterranean soccer mullet?

He's a talented player and Man U fans should hate to see him go, but...

A remarkable talent with (if the story is accurate) apparently no loyalty. The Glazer's will permanently cement their relationship with United fans if they tell Real Madrid and Ronaldo to fark off and put him in the reserves until his contract expires.

Sod that, make Ronaldo buy it out. An easy six figures to go to the academy, and a swift two fingers to both his agent and Real.

Something about this story isn't right. Why would he make a decision right before the Euro 2008?? The article's written like some Madrid obsessed fan wrote it.

I don't know man, it just seems odd for this to be coming out now before Euro's. I mean, anyone playing in the Euro's hasn't made any future club decisions yet.

To be fair, it's not as if his value can get any higher. No point in waiting until Euro was over. Plus he could pick up an injury that would derail the entire deal.

He has stated repeatedly that his dream is to eventually play for Real. The President of Real Madrid has gone on record (can't remember link, sorry) saying that this is the final offer on the table. If this one doesn't work, it's never going to happen. (Article mentioned how they never went back in for Kaka after he turned them down, gave the claim a little bit of credibility)

I think he's gone, personally. 150 grand per week? Dream club? He's off.

2008-06-04 10:51:06 AM
I hope the Glazers stick to their guns and make the miserable little knob rot on the bench. As much as I dislike United, this kid owes them a ton. He has a contract til 2011.

I guess it'll all come down to how much Madrid offer for him. I've heard as much as 100M. It'd be difficult for United to say no to that kind of cash for one player.

2008-06-04 10:56:09 AM
He'll go... if Man United accept an official bid from Real Madrid and I can't see Man United accepting an offer (even an eye-watering one that Real can no doubt make) on their best player

Zombie Hitler: I think he's gone, personally. 150 grand per week? Dream club? He's off.

Well yeah, if it's his wish, then he'll go. I just don't like the timing of it. No player should be focusing on club futures right now, if they're about to play in a major international tournament.

I also love how Becks is chiming in and urging Ronny to stay. It's like that scene in Any Given Sunday when you see LT talking to "Willie Beamen" about not letting ego get to his head. A bit of a tangent, I know, but those of you familiar with that scene and American football know what I'm talking about.

True, and if Madrid pays 100mil for him, and he gets injured in Euro...then Karma will (once again, for United) be fulfilled.

Ronaldo's agent's brother's cousin says a move to Real Madrid would "fulfill a dream."

It's funny, I have that same dream; to see Ronaldo do that walky-uppy balk of a penalty kick in a jheri-curl stained Real Madrid shirt.

Sirjohnfalstaff: make the miserable little knob rot on the bench

wait... no... this is my dream.

So, when Ronaldo goes away, the only question that will remain is where will Man U get 40 goals next season and how much further below Tottenham will they finish?

Even without Ronaldo they'll still finish above Arsenal.

Hey timmy, have you gotten a Van Persie shirt yet for the baby? If so, can you take a picture for me? It's just fitting.

Van Persie...Baby...just makes sense.

£60M

That should be enough to prise both Hatem ben Arfa and Karim Benzema away from their French teams.

ben Arfa would replace the playmaking, Benzema the goal scoring.

Oh I would not mind having Benzema on United one bit. He is phenomenal.

The other UK papers are reporting that he will play one more year at Old Trafford and then move on. I'm sure that will be warmly received by the United faithful. Don't know how you whistle at a player who's scoring dozens of goals, but I'm guessing they'll figure it out.

2008-06-04 12:02:40 PM
The thing about Ronaldo is that, if he stays at United for a few more years, and wins a few more championships, he'll be regarded as one of the United greats, like a Cantona or a Solskjaer. He really has the opportunity to put a stamp in United history.

If he gets up and leaves, he'll just be another Beckham, loved him when he was here, but kind of just a faded memory when he leaves.

TonnageVT: Even without Ronaldo they'll still finish above Arsenal

really? i think Ronaldo saved a far sight more than 4 points this year and you know it. you also know that no matter how good Nani is, he's nowhere near Ronaldo. so, your comments make me think it's brown trousers time for Man U supporters.

i'd feel the same way if there was even a hint that Fabregas was leaving, but Cesc came out and said he's staying with Arsenal 100% because unlike Jheronaldo, he's not a coont to the supporters.

and really? that's the remarkable thing here, you all had to suffer through year after year of his antics; the diving, the over dribbling, the poor performances, the let downs time and time again, the world cup where he had a teammate sent off and winked at the camera. you put up with that and even embraced him! and now? he repays your loyalty with this?

disgraceful.

say you're staying or say you're going, don't pull a Hleb.

and now that he's at the top of his game? he doesn't even have the decency to be forthright with the Man U supporters; his mealy mouthed response is far worse than him saying "I want to go" or "I want to stay."

She's a woman, you expected her to be good at anything relating to sports?

Back on topic. As a United supporter I would hate to see Ronaldo go. That said, he is being pretty dodgy about whether he is or isn't going to go. It's a bit attention whorish and I know all the United haters are going to come out and say thats just who he is, but I dont think so. He needs to come out and say either that he wants to go and something should happen to make it or that he wants to stay.

That's what gets me, I mean as far as what HE has said (as in, directly from his mouth), the only thing I heard is that "I'm staying" and that was after CL final. I understand that it's his dream to go to Madrid, he has accomplished a somewhat treble with United by winning the FA Cup in '04, the premiership in '07 and '08 and the Champions League in '08, so for him personally, yes, he's been successful at United.

I agree Timmy, you have to have a certain level of loyalty to your supporters, and as I said earlier, if he stays with United, and continues to play the way he is...he could very well be considered a United legend down the road. So now the question is, does he follow his dream of playing for Madrid? Or does he continue a path down immortality at Old Trafford?

You all can enjoy speculating. I'll wait until I hear the man himself say it, if that's OK with you all.

On the chance that it is true, however, let it be noted that $200 million can buy more than a couple players to replace Ronaldo. So I wouldn't be writing Man United's obituary just yet, true or not.

If he goes to Barcelona, trade for Messi and maybe a bit of money? They might even throw in Ronaldinho for free!
