Doesn't matter.

Generally, the sands of Daytona are of a harder consistency than most American beaches. In normal conditions, you can drive on it. Any car. There are traffic lanes on the beach. Daytona's famous for people being able to drive on the beach. It's one of the things that draws the tourists.

And here, I thought the main attractions were militant rednecks and uneasy racial tension.

I've gotten stuck in the sand on Daytona beach, so I'm in awe at the lack of replies.

As fate would have it, I was driving a Mustang a the time as well, luckily, be a Mainiac I had a snow shovel in the trunk, which worked just as well to get out of sand. If only I had some snow to throw down at the time.

Question: why the fark does your car need to be on the beach

Those cars need a Doctor, and I have one in mind.

YounAesopwhy the fark does your car need to be on the beach

Well, I think it would be kinda cool, once in my life, to drive my Olds along a beach, pretending I'm in a convertible with a pretty woman at my side, like in the movies. Oh, wait. I'm not that vain, or stupid. Nevermind.

It's a popular off-shoot of the normal mating ritual of 'cruising.' INRE 'Cruising': If you don't live in a car mecca, you need not apply.

/actually kinda fun getting free attention when you have a hot car.
//most people who think their car passes for hot, FAIL.

When I was there two years ago I probably saw 20 cars get stuck in front of the condo I was staying at throughout the course of the week.

Using Islamic terminology to describe NASCAR cultural center = FAIL

/sarcasm

Kidding - I'd love to see the confusion when a NASCAR fan uses the term, "car mecca," to describe Daytona.

"You're stuck trying to get the wheels to go and trying to get the car to move and you get no where," motorist George Cabrera said.

If this is the limit of his understanding of the physics that govern automobiles and their environment, i am not surprised he got stuck. This piece is fluff because they didn't mention the 4000 other people who stayed on the packed sand and didn't get stuck that day.

I drive my car on the beach at Daytona all the time, so I'm really getting a kick out of these reply's...

/One of the few nicer things to do in Daytona, as there are better beaches
//Also, means no real parking problem, as you just pull off the beach lanes and park right on the beach, just need to go reallllly slow while driving (lots of kids)

Is there some sort of unspoken journalist contest to find out who can document the stupidest quote?

I take my truck down on the beach just north of Daytona. Crescent Beach north of Matanzas pass and south of St. Augustine. They put up "4X4 Only" signs up at the entrance when the beach gets soft. I wonder why Daytona can't do this.

People getting their cars stuck in the sand is a gold mine for Daytona area wreckers. If you get stuck, it's a simple matter of jacking up your car and pushing more sand in under your tires and then slowly backing out the way you came in.

Been there / done than !

i was at daytona on saturday and didn't see a single car get stuck. we did have to leave as it washiatide and the water was threatening to eat our car.

For the life of me, I don't know why they continue to let people drive on the beach. Florida beaches have enough problems with erosion and pollution as it is.

just air down your tires...

Touri$m.

But Daytona is one of the ugliest beaches in Florida anyway.

The nicest ones are all along the Gulf Coast; Sanibel, Captiva, Siesta Key, Destin, Fort Desoto, Caladesi Island.

Aparently it does to the guy who owns that Mustang.

1200 pounds of scuba gear.

I had a baja bug that got stuck a foot deep in the sand back in the day after I left it at a questionable spot on the beach.......at least I was able to get it out easily.

NASCAR a bit much?

Normally the sand isn't a problem. If it was, they wouldn't let you drive on it, now would they?

www.nytmare.org

But when the high tide comes in, you can get in trouble on the softer beach-towel sand.

I was spoiled, I guess, but any beach meant for people is pretty ugly to me (more than before, even). Prettiest beaches I've spent time on was working on a mouse monitoring project at the Cape Canaveral Air Force Station as an undergrad research assistant. No people, lots of plants, dolphins in the water and mice (among lots of other animals) on the beach. (And one very evil prickly pear cactus, it was always lying in wait for me.)

MUCH more convenient than lugging all your beach gear and coolers from a parking lot (or house) more than a 1/4 mile away!

Even more convenient when you have young children in tow...vehicle provides a nice wind break, with a little creativity you can create a nice shade awning (large fabric tarp, two adjustable telescoping poles, and your car doors as anchors), kids can nap and change clothes more easily, car doesn't get hot inside as windows and doors can remain open, etc.

LOVED living in Florida (in my single, pre-kiddo days)! Too bad it's gone SO downhill since the early/mid 90's

Ah... I miss Florida sometimes.
