Dangerously close to being way off-topic, but this story reminded me of this gem from 2006:

U.S. Rep. John Sweeney, R-Clifton Park (NY), attended an on-campus frat party at the Alpha Delta Phi house on the Union College campus in Schenectady on April 22 around 1 a.m.

Sweeney's Deputy Chief of Staff, Melissa Carlson, said today she has nothing more to say about this incident other than what she told the local newspaper, which was: "As a committed representative of the people throughout the area where he lives and works, he enjoyed the discussion he shared with the students from Union College. (Sweeney) was impressed with the energy and enthusiasm displayed by the students - particularly on a Friday evening."

FTA: Police, school board want to know about party

You'd think they could throw their own party...

Anyways, I love this little gem: In Ohio, it is illegal for anyone under 21 to consume alcohol.

Some fine reporting, there....

Crotty's wife, Cathy, is assistant director of athletics for Mason schools.

That little jewel was buried deep in the story, but WTF? The assistant coach is drinking with the kids and his wife is the athletic director?

Damn, that must be one partying school district! What goes on during the bus rides home from the football games? Inquiring minds...

When it comes to sports, it's not whether you win or lose, but how drunk you get.

Key word "probably" party on!

Speaking of which, her name is Cathy Crotty. I don't know why, but I find that very entertaining...

I must warn my friend about this. He teaches high school now. Also, for the person who posted the post before the second post: I love who that detail in #2 coupled with #1: Looks like an "Oh shiat" face as soon as he realizes Sweeney is there.

Assistant basketball coach.
I bet he's really good at beer pong.

Oh, Subby. Why would you say it's a bad idea?

Do you have any idea how hard it is to actually sit down and write a letter of resignation?

18 - 20 is still considered underage when it comes to alcohol.

What is it with beer pong? I just don't get the game. If you wanna drink, drink. If you wanna make others drink, give them a beer and use peer pressure. But to toss a ping pong ball into a cup seems rather involved and requires entirely too much preparation and space. There's a reason it's only played by those that play it, really. I understand quarters, it was primarily a method of "forcing" girls to drink that required very little overhead and prep, and almost seemed respectful afterwards. But, beer pong? The worst part of it is that I usually see only dudes playing, not that there's anything wrong with that, but still.

Because people enjoy drinking and competitive games of skill?

I prefer the card game Bullshiat for drinking, myself. Less standing involved, and if you've known the people you're playing with long enough, it's fairly easy to tell when they're lying. Of course, you can always lose "on accident" in case they can't say the same about you. = )

Yeah, I usually just play "Drink the Beer."

man, the "beer pong" method of tossing the ball into a pyramid of cups isn't proper beer pong. give me a red cup at each corner of the table during a doubles pong game or give me death.

TFA: Nelson - who is employed by Mason police but whose duties include security at the high school - said police must still "identify those in the photos and they may be former students or former students home from college."

Their attorney, Patrick Dunphy, sent The Enquirer an e-mail statement Thursday. He wrote that "any accusations that my clients participated in or hosted a party for Mason High School students where alcohol was served are absolutely untrue."

"The accusation that my clients held a party in their home where alcohol was consumed by minors with their prior knowledge are absolutely false," Dunphy wrote.

Anybody else notice how the attorney wasn't actually lying? The students he served weren't in high school, and they weren't minors. Rather clever, I thought.
