They could have spent it on light rail and regional rail lines in every decently sized city across America... thousands of KM.... that would have created jobs and helped reduce gasoline consumption (save money)

I spent most of mine finishing up the Japanese half sleeve/half chest piece that I had been working on. Cash only, so couldnt be tracked though :o(

whcrow: My wife goes down to the mail box every day to "see if the Ice cream money check" has arrived.

She seems to think that it will amount to enough to buy a bit of icecream every day.

When I saw Lewis Black he was on a kick about how it's equivalent of eating a cupcake every day.

To my complete surprise, my wife suggested a new TV. We'd been thinking about getting one, so we bought a used 52" DLP Mitsubishi. Came with 3 years left on an onsite warranty and a free bulb replacement. Got if off her company's classified site and talked them down to $650. Sold the old tv on CL for $200.

Spent the other $300 to finish paying off the credit card. Now we've killed all of the CC debt - not that there was much to begin with. I'm a "cash unless I have to" kind of spender. Now all that's left is car and student loans...

The $200 I got back just paid for the concealed handgun class I signed up for on 6/14. A guy a work with is doing it at the same time so we got a discount to $95 for the class. :)

What the fark? I promise I've been spending mine. Ask Exxon or Shell, or BP. Any of those guys. They'll vouch for me.

I got a stimulus check, so I'm getting a kick out of these replies.

I'm paying down my credit card so I can go out and put more on it. Folks just need to be patient and let human nature catch up to itself.

fenrael23: Stimulus Check = Pissing on a forest fire.

Ooh, the stimulus check game. Ok, how about:

Stimulus check = Bringing a sponge to clean up a flood zone.

Stimulus check = fighting a plague of locusts with a bug zapper

Stimulus check = smoking one bowl with Snoop Dogg

ScubaDude1960: If you take $100 and build a table that you can sell for $700, you have created $600 in new wealth, which adds to the economy. There is no new wealth generated with the stimulus check... it's just money that's already been earned (and confiscated by the government), or money that's being borrowed and must be paid back in the future, being redistributed. The economic effect is zero.

Sorry, you fail at economics.

Now that's just silly. Only FEMA would bring a sponge to clean up a flood zone.

You can use the internet for things other than Fark and porn? Huh. That's the second thing I've learned from you today :)

MorphOSX: I bought a month and a half worth of gas.

You must be driving a hybrid.

Mine will go towards...paying bills! Hooray. I only have a year or so of payments on my car, and this will help. Well, part of it is going towards a good fishing pole, too. Hooray!

rosebud_the_sled: I didn't get a check. It was sad. $600 could have gone a way to pay for a good dinner for 4.

That being said, I am shocked that a Bush economic plan did not work, given his past 100% record of failure.

Bush plan fails? UNPOSSIBLE!!

I've got a kid coming. Babies 'R' Us seems to be winning out on getting my stimulus check, to the detriment of the local purveyor of HDTVs.

Glad to hear you're making the right decision, but the very fact that you're whining about it means your head isn't on completely straight yet. Time to man up.

In a couple of hours, as soon as I get out of this work thing, my family and I will be off using ours on a vacation. After all, we want to do our best to stimulate the economy it whatever way we can.

I did not get one.

But I bought a Markov 9mm, and a Wather PPKS, and a H&K .45ACP just for the hell of it.

I got an Uberti Cattleman SA in .357. Don't tell my girlfriend - she thinks I'm using it for a ring!

Nice gun. I've got an SP101 in .357. It shoots very nicely, and is built like a tank.

As for my check, I paid both of my car's registrations, a little bit of debt, and bought a new Ruger Mark III.

GoodyearPimp: Sulfus: Alright. I'm a bit confused. I'm 17, and I work. My parents weren't allowed to include me in their tax rebate, so that means I should get my own, right?

I still haven't received mine. Am I going to get my $300, or am I going to be screwed over by the government again?

I bet your parents lied to you (this happened to a friend of mine). If you earned enough last year ($3000, I believe), submitted a 1040, and were not a dependant, you should qualify for at least $300.

If you were 17 on the last day of the year (12/31) and your parents could have claimed you as a dependent (doesn't matter if they did or didn't, just could have), then you don't get a stimulus check. Your parents don't get the $300 for you, either.

Got my stimulus check direct deposited while on vacation in Prague, CZ and promptly spent it on the following...

1 1950's era Czech military field phone in full working order purchased from an antique store a block away from the astronomical clock.
1 bottle of Absinthe (yeah the real wormwood kind)
1 22 yr old really hot blonde Czech hooker from a brothel off of Wenceslas Square for 1.5 hours

/as for what happened... use your imagination...

Anybody that passed High School Economics knows that these stimulus checks weren't gonna work. Most Americans used thier check to buy a plasma TV from a Japanese supplier.

Create Jobs and get people employed.

Bush couldn't manage the Texas Rangers Ball Club, didn't do much better with the USA.

Thats what Roosevelt did.

\ I got a B in economics.

/ssn ends in 03
