I used mine to help some guy in Nigeria until he can get his money out of the country, but he promised me I should get at least triple what I gave him.

bongmiester: that's because they can only track legal purchases

Your name and comment go hand in hand.

2008-05-30 02:38:14 PM
I don't get one because I have to maintain legal dependency in order to qualify for government college grants.

/It's way more than 600 bones, though
//But I can't spend education on beer
///Stupid intangible benefits

2008-05-30 02:38:17 PM

/not kidding

2008-05-30 02:38:19 PM

2008-05-30 02:38:30 PM
Used mine to buy a copy machine to make more money. Now I have 100 billion dollars to do what I want. Take that Uncle Sam!

I got my stimulus check and then the next day got a bill for the same amount for back taxes.

My luck, it is awesome.

Have you been into a Wal-mart lately? The TV isle is bare, people have even bought the display models! I went in there 2 weeks ago and it was like Christmas or something.

2008-05-30 02:39:23 PM
I haven't spent mine, because I HAVEN'T GOTTEN IT YET!

/No, you can't have stimulus check
//Not yours

2008-05-30 02:39:23 PM

Sulfus: I still haven't received mine. Am I going to get my $300, or am I going to be screwed over by the government again?

Did you file taxes this year?

2008-05-30 02:40:01 PM
"Consumers are spending cautiously," said Michael Moran, chief economist at Daiwa Securities America Inc. in New York, who correctly forecast the gain in spending.

So, he's both a Moran and not a moran.

2008-05-30 02:40:06 PM
Sulfus: Alright. I'm a bit confused. I'm 17, and I work. My parents weren't allowed to include me in their tax rebate, so that means I should get my own, right?

I still haven't received mine. Am I going to get my $300, or am I going to be screwed over by the government again?

I bet your parents lied to you (this happened to a friend of mine). If you earned enough last year ($3000, I believe), submitted a 1040, and were not a dependant, you should qualify for at least $300.

2008-05-30 02:40:12 PM
Well, I for one have spent most of mine.

2008-05-30 02:40:25 PM
No pics of the $600 stimulus waving douchebag with the sunglasses from last week's thread yet? For shame.

Mine paid the rent, the rent paid the loans, the loans paid for the education that counts for jack shiat!

/yay

2008-05-30 02:41:07 PM
The money didn't belong to the government to begin with. They should do more reembursments.

And what is this 'debt' everyone is talking about?

2008-05-30 02:41:14 PM

Here's what I bought with mine. (pops)

Not sure if its the wisest purchase, but I bought American...

2008-05-30 02:41:20 PM
I spent mine on some White Widow.

I don't know if this helped the economy, maybe one of you nerds who majored in economics can help me out.

2008-05-30 02:41:35 PM
Ours is going to help pay our tax bill.

/irony?

It depends on how much you made, there is some calculation for people that pay less than $10,000 in taxes. Assuming that you're making about the same wages as most 17 year olds, I'd say don't expect the whole $300.

People who didn't pay taxes will say this stimulus check is unfair because they didn't get one.

2008-05-30 02:42:03 PM
Couple hundred saved for GenCon, and the rest to bills.

Seriously, what did they think was gonna happen? The ceonomy magically turns around? Try taking the DoDs R&D money, cutting it in half, and giving that half back to the people. It'd be in the &750 range per person, and wouldn't put us in yet MORE debt to eh Chinese is you wanna try something like this.

Dingfod: Unless I am mistaken, hardly any of the stimulus rebate checks went out in April. I read that through May 2 only 8 million checks went out and most of those were on May 2.

Also, THIS. (Got mine 3 days ago)

2008-05-30 02:42:10 PM
Hey when do I get my check?

/recent college grad
//Wheres the unemployment line?

2008-05-30 02:42:10 PM
Bush, the one-trick pony.

Without the US treasury he's no longer the economic master of his domain.

2008-05-30 02:42:15 PM
Why the fark did they tell me to expect $600, and then only come through with $215? I'm not rich, I make about 50k! I had worked that $600 into my budget . . . I blame Bush.

I get mine June 6th, apparently. Home based businesses seem to slow things down a bit.

There was a minimum income to qualify, not sure if you were under that (if you don't work alot).

2008-05-30 02:43:15 PM
Part of mine went toward Iron Maiden tickets for my son and me. I'd feel guilty about stimulating the British economy if it weren't for the raping Ticketmaster dishes out.

2008-05-30 02:43:25 PM
multiply it by 100 and you might have a useful amount of money. the range of this figure may have worked a few decades ago.

2008-05-30 02:43:26 PM
I'm not one of these "OMGZZ THE LIBRUL MEDIA!" kind of people, but shouldn't they wait until all the rebates have been sent/received before making such a claim?

/didn't RTFA
//didn't get my rebate yet

xkillyourfacex: People use them to pay off bills, or pay down interest. This still stimulates the economy.

Actually it doesn't. The initial purchase that incurred the debt did more to stimulate the economy than paying the interest on that purchase. Same goes for bills, that isn't a surge in spending like Bush had hoped for.

The assumption was that the checks would turn the entire country into spend-frenzy morans.

I'm thinking about putting mine in a savings account so I can pay it back when they charge us for it in 2010.

2008-05-30 02:44:08 PM
Umm, well a helluva lotta people haven't even receivedthese checks yet, so isn't it a little early to be making an assesment?

Retailing stocks slumped after the figures reinforced forecasts for spending growth to slow this quarter to the weakest pace since 1991.

Still waiting for my farking stimulus. Unfortunatley, it will all be spent and then some.

2008-05-30 02:45:25 PM
Sybarite: A nation of people deeply in debt didn't go blow their check on new TVs and iPods? Isn't that odd.

Actually, it IS odd. If past financial history is any indicator, Americans lack financial sense. For them to develop it now is definitely strange.

schnarff: I'd love that idea if the government actually had the money to give away, instead of just adding it onto their tab.

Exactly. What would you think of a new law, where you are *required* to take out a long-term loan for the amount of the stimulus check?

If you don't like that law, why do you like the government doing it for you?

2008-05-30 02:45:53 PM
Still waiting on mine. I e-filed with turbo-tax... so I may be getting a paper check thanks to them :(
