The hell you say!

I, for one, am shocked! Simply shocked!!

A nation of people deeply in debt didn't go blow their check on new TVs and iPods? Isn't that odd.

2008-05-30 10:50:04 AM
You know, with all the talk of roads & infrastructure in disrepair you'd think they would've promoted some sort of occupational training program for unemployed folks & put them to work rebuilding everything. I figure nothing stimulates an economy like a high employment rate. Then again, I have no clue WTF I'm talking about, so...

I've got a kid coming. Babies 'R' Us seems to be winning out on getting my stimulus check, to the detriment of the local purveyor of HDTVs.

2008-05-30 10:51:07 AM
I used mine on guns and ammo. Got a nice Ruger SP101 in 32 H&R Magnum and some reloading supplies, then paid down the credit card a bit.

I used mine to pay down debt.

2008-05-30 10:52:29 AM
I used mine to pay off the stuff I bought before the dollar tanked.

2008-05-30 10:54:24 AM
i'm sending mine on car repairs...

Crosshair: I used mine on guns and ammo. Got a nice Ruger SP101 in 32 H&R Magnum and some reloading supplies, then paid down the credit card a bit.

I did not get one.

But I bought a Markov 9mm, and a Wather PPKS, and a H&K .45ACP just for the hell of it.

2008-05-30 10:55:43 AM
I had a pretty big bar tab the night my stimulus posted to my account.

Hookers and coke dealers tend to under report their earnings.

I took mine and bought a sh*tton of crabs and beer last Sunday. For America.

2008-05-30 10:57:37 AM
Obviously they need to send out more money as the 1200 wasn't quite enough to make everything magically better.

2500 this time should do it

You bought into those Autozone commercials didn't you?

Told you so.

Nestea Plunge: Told you so.

So I take it you sent yours back because you told them it wouldn't work in the first place?

Bonkthat_Again: You bought into those Autozone commercials didn't you?

No, I paid bills, farkface, but thanks for asking. Go die, now.

Unless I am mistaken, hardly any of the stimulus rebate checks went out in April. I read that through May 2 only 8 million checks went out and most of those were on May 2.

2008-05-30 11:09:14 AM
Mine went straight to Toyota, along with my regular tax rebate. I'm 6 months ahead on payments!

/woooo

For mine, there was Mastercard.

blackminded - COMMUNIST!!!

Dammit! Can I change my answer?

I'm spending mine in France this summer.

And not using a credit card there, either.

2008-05-30 11:13:35 AM
First of all, I haven't gotten the damn check yet. Second of all, when I do get it, it's going to bills.

2008-05-30 11:13:41 AM
I say we try it again.

/just to be sure

2008-05-30 11:23:53 AM
That is a good thing. Doesn't that mean that the money is possibly going to pay off debt instead?

I'd love that idea if the government actually had the money to give away, instead of just adding it onto their tab.

I'm still pissed that it wasn't more clear for people who used direct debit to pay a tax bill that they'd have to go manually specify a direct deposit account to get their rebate that way. I'd already have mine, but instead I have to wait until late June.

2008-05-30 11:29:21 AM
Mine's going right back to Uncle Sam in the form of my quarterly taxes.

Owning your own practice sucks balls in the middle of a recession.

stimulus check = government bank bailout.

knowing most people are falling behind in payments, gov't gives $600+ to everyone, who promptly uses it to catch up on all payments...

/ends up in banks pockets

//tinfoil

2008-05-30 11:44:44 AM
It's OK, they'll just revise the numbers later

It's not working.

2008-05-30 11:49:29 AM
mine was so small
I bought a pizza with it

/did you know that everyone does not get the same amount?
/rich people getting shafted again, I tell ya

2008-05-30 11:56:10 AM
If you take $100 and build a table that you can sell for $700, you have created $600 in new wealth, which adds to the economy. There is no new wealth generated with the stimulus check... it's just money that's already been earned (and confiscated by the government), or money that's being borrowed and must be paid back in the future, being redistributed. The economic effect is zero.

Might want to convert it to Euros now and not later

2008-05-30 12:12:19 PM
Well, I used mine to stock up on back bacon and beer. And Celine Dion albums - you can never have enough Celine Dion albums.

Uh, wait...should I have been getting that cheque in the first place? It was from Ottawa, right?

2008-05-30 12:16:54 PM
Oh, I was using my stimulus check as a jerkoff rag. I guess I was doing it wrong.

2008-05-30 12:21:22 PM
I haven't gotten mine yet.

GurneyHalleck: First of all, I haven't gotten the damn check yet. Second of all, when I do get it, it's going to bills.

Same here. Had to file an extension. When I do get it, it will probably go to pay the rest of my taxes. Ain't life grand?

2008-05-30 01:30:12 PM
Spending mine on gas and swag at Bonnaroo.

2008-05-30 02:34:44 PM
I haven't gotten mine yet, either, and I still bought a kayak.

2008-05-30 02:35:44 PM
I used mine to pay a hospital bill I got the week before I got the check.

2008-05-30 02:36:07 PM
Most people I know used it on drugs.

/gotta win the war somehow, right?

Sybarite: A nation of people deeply in debt didn't go blow their check on new TVs and iPods? Isn't that odd.

LOL. The entirety of my check went to my credit card. BE GONE WITH YE, DEBTS!

2008-05-30 02:36:29 PM
People use them to pay off bills, or pay down interest. This still stimulates the economy.

2008-05-30 02:36:35 PM
Alright. I'm a bit confused. I'm 17, and I work. My parents weren't allowed to include me in their tax rebate, so that means I should get my own, right?

I still haven't received mine. Am I going to get my $300, or am I going to be screwed over by the government again?

2008-05-30 02:36:49 PM
Well, on the bright side, the government probably would have wasted the money had it not released the stimulus anyway.

2008-05-30 02:37:18 PM
I bought a tank of gas.
