Maybe we'll here more stories like this. Nah, that would require integrity. (Meshman, seek help.)

Former Vice President Al Gore's 19-year-old son was arrested for drunk driving by U.S. Military Police at outside a base near the Pentagon - his second roadside arrest in the last two years. Albert Gore III was picked up Sept. 5 near Fort Myer, Va., and charged with driving under the influence of alcohol, reckless driving and possession of alcohol by a minor, the Washington Times reported yesterday.

He was alone in the car and wasn't speeding, said Jano Cabrera, a spokesman for the former vice president.

"The [Gore] family is relieved that no one was hurt," Cabrera told Inside the Beltway. "Beyond that, they are dealing with this privately as a family."

On Aug. 12, 2000, the younger Gore was fined $125 and his license was temporarily suspended after he was arrested by the North Carolina Highway Patrol for driving 97 mph in a 55 mph zone.

News of 19-year-old Albert Gore III's Sept. 5 drunk driving arrest wasn't reported for a full eight days - until a political gossip column in the Washington Times broke the news blockade yesterday.

The media cover-up of Gore Jr.'s latest brush with the law stands in marked contrast to alcohol-related offenses involving the Bush family, stories the press has repeatedly rushed into print over the last two years.

As of Saturday morning, the New York Times, the Washington Post, the Associated Press and most other big media outlets had declined to cover Gore Jr.'s alcohol-fueled antics, which came to an abrupt halt when he was pulled over by military police just outside the Pentagon.

At the family's request, the press also declined to report young Gore's 1996 suspension from the tony Washington, D.C., prep school St. Albans after he was discovered smoking marijuana in the cafeteria.

"[Vice President] Gore called leading news organizations around Washington and asked them not to run the story, and all complied," reported Newsweek's Bill Turque in his book "Inventing Al Gore."

Though reporters acquiesced when Mr. Gore secretly asked them not to cover the 1996 drug incident involving his son, the press has ignored repeated public requests from first lady Laura Bush to show the same discretion with her daughters.

Of course, the Bush's are much more relevant to the political world today than the Gores... notice how you really don't hear much about Newt Gingrich's infidelities these days, and he's been out of office for a few years now. No one really cares about Gore these days, except to further bash the DNC. Notice how many of the people that would have voted for him apted to vote for Nader instead.

Also, you do hear a bit about Daschle's apparent moral ambiguity (with his wife's lobbyist position especially). Could it just be that reporters just run stories about people currently at the center of the public eye, no matter their political bent? Recall how sickening the Clinton sex scandal coverage got... now, onto the Bush's coming of age.
2002-11-24 02:52:33 PM
Hmmm...maybe the press reports the various drunken escapades of the Bush twins because, you know, their daddy by hook or by crook is really really really famous right now? Stop whining about the "liberal" media. Just ask your demigod Rush Limbaugh, "The liberal press monopoly does not exist."

BOOYAH has been in use among intellectuals for decades, ever since Einstein declared it upon his invention of the Theory of Relativity.
2002-11-24 02:53:53 PM
It's ironic that the people who bash G. W. Bush for being "too dumb" for the Presidency are actually too dumb to know anything about political science. Go read The Republic kiddies and then maybe you'll realize that while he isn't perfect, he isn't any worse than any of our other politicians.
2002-11-24 02:56:03 PM
In celebration of the twins' 21st, I'm increasing my holdings in booze and tobacco stocks.
2002-11-24 02:58:21 PM
Interesting link. It seems that duhbya is either a robot or his press office spends to much time photoshopping on fark.

2002-11-24 02:59:10 PM
Hmm, not famous, huh? The first arrest was three days before the Bush/Gore debate for the 2000 election, and the press supressed. The marijuana incident was while Gore was VP, so your theory doesn't work.

2002-11-24 03:01:20 PM
I'd like to put "JoewBlowey" into the presidency for a week to watch him fark over the country more than GWB could do in 8 years (and yes, he will get re-elected...anyone who disputes this didn't see the Dems get their shiat ruined during the mid term elections...). Your whole post sounded like a bitter rant of a 15 year old kid whose only political influence is his freshman year history teacher...For further insight as to why people like this are too dumb to criticize anyone's intelligence, please refer to JoeyBlowey's fark bio which states "Location: In Bed With Your Wife." In fact, the only redeeming aspect of his existence that I can ascertain is that he pays for web content.
2002-11-24 03:01:29 PM
JocksAreSuXoRz: agreed that most politicians aren't that great, but Bush just seems to be way too politically clumsy for my tastes. Not sure how "dumb" he really is, but his PR apparatus needs to get its head together, or at least he needs some better speach writers.
2002-11-24 03:05:07 PM
^^^ looks like he just gave birth to the twins, or is it just me?
2002-11-24 03:05:18 PM
And your point is Lawman? I'm suprised Gore even has kids at all, considering what a prude Tipper is. As righties so often like to point out - Gore is "old and busted". He's not the president, and I'm sure if Bush had a couple of ugly sons rather than cute daughters, the media wouldn't write about them either.
2002-11-24 03:06:44 PM
Lawman: of course, both were only running at that time, and no one gave a damn about the Bush twins in those days either. I'm sure that if Gore had won, his son's run in with the law would be getting quite a bit of coverage. You're also not accepting the fact that the twins got busted for minors quite a few times (Jenna anyway), and daddy's own record with substance abuse, and refusal to even acknowledge it. Booyah to you biatch.

JocksAreSuXoRz: just as Gore had a lock on the election too, will GWB win easilly in the next election. Not saying he'll lose for sure, but a lot can happen in 1-2 years (ask Bush 1), and frankly, voter turnout on this midterm election was abysmal.
2002-11-24 03:10:57 PM
Crotchrocket - didn't know we had descended into name calling. I prefer to stick to the issues. Argue with facts if you can. Yes, Bush's daughters were reported on during the campaign, quite a bit. That is why most shouted hypocrisy when Gore's son was excused. Also, nothing the Bush daughters have ever done has put any lives at stake. But, Gore's son has done so TWICE. Any intelligent person would have to admit that having a beer underage is not quite a serious as driving drunk on a major highway or driving at 42 mph over the limit on a suspended license, both of which are FELONIES.
2002-11-24 03:12:52 PM
Funny, I don't recall the Bush twins getting minors until Daddy took office. Care to back your assertion up with a few links then, if you claim this as a fact?
2002-11-24 03:16:47 PM
Also, in regards to media coverage of legal infractions of politicians and their families, severity of a legal infraction doesn't really determine it- ability to get ratings/sales does. I doubt any reasonable person would equate lying about a bj with either minor consumption or DWI/DUI, yet Clinton's case was covered for months before the impeachment. Why? Because he was President.
2002-11-24 03:19:25 PM
Albert Gore III - dull and boring

Jenna and Barbara - Hot, naughty and COMEDY GOLD!
2002-11-24 03:21:51 PM
You know what that means: HERE COMES "THE PHOTOS"!
Mr. President, if you are reading this page, may I suggest locking up your daughters for the next two to six years?
2002-11-24 03:22:28 PM
Now is everyone happy?

/ducks and runs for cover
2002-11-24 03:22:33 PM
DisneyOnIce is right too... the Bushes are hotter too... sex sells, and newspapers are business run. It's not politically motivated, but financially, one of the reasons that having a media industry kinda sucks, but I can't think of a system that would work better. At least it evens itself out on occasion.
2002-11-24 03:22:46 PM
is it all states that you have to be 21 to drink alcohol? thats pretty farked up,
lol the blairs son [16] was picked up by the police last year for being pissed, but drinking at 19 well thats totally disgraceful! americans have herd of irony right?
2002-11-24 03:26:12 PM
Dammit - you almost read my mind Telmakhos! I tried a GIS for Albert Gore III and got nuthin. Anyone know where i can get of pic of him?
2002-11-24 03:27:15 PM

Lookin' fine! (as fine as you can with these genes)

OOPS! I'm so drunk! Mind if I throw up on my boy-something-or-other?

Look! It's my Anna Nicole Smith imitation! Tee-hee! (bllllllaaaaaaaarrggggggggghhhhfffffffff)

2002-11-24 03:27:56 PM
And the thread takes a slide into the shiatter...
2002-11-24 03:28:41 PM
My point was not that they were reported for drinking before he took office, but that they were reported on at all. They were widely covered, despite requests by their parents to respect their privacy. The same was not true for either the Gore's children or for Chelsea.

My point goes to the basic assertion made earlier that they were only covered because their father was President. Not so. If that were true, we would have heard more about Gore's and Chelsea's drinking while their daddies were in office. But we didn't. The Bushes got minors while GWB was in office, and everybody heard. Gore's son got a felony while he was in office, and practically nobody did.
2002-11-24 03:29:27 PM
Don't they always, Slim?
2002-11-24 03:30:59 PM
Perhaps no more underage drinking, but I'm sure we'll still get some DWI's like dear old dad.
2002-11-24 03:32:41 PM
Crotch: something besides ANYTHING related to Bush is getting bashed? very sad for you.
2002-11-24 03:34:05 PM
Again, I raise my point that newspapers deliver stories of interest to get greater circulation, not out of some political bent. And the rags keep following Chelsea around (look at CRAP's post to see), and remember that her mother is a Senator these days. The Gore's are boring, thus no coverage. The Clinton's and Bush's, however, remain entertaining, thus more coverage. Daschle's not too charismatic, but there are enough people that care (either because they don't like their party to be the biatch of some lobby, or they just like to bash Dems) to warrant a little coverage. It's all about the bottom line: making money. That's all.
2002-11-24 03:35:12 PM
Again, so many people talking about things of which they have no first hand knowledge. HarryBeanBag believes everything he reads. What sheep.
2002-11-24 03:35:26 PM
CAP811: a thread without enough needless Clinton bashing for you? Glad to see you remedied that yourself.
2002-11-24 03:36:47 PM
True, can't argue about Crotch's point re: making money/boosting circulation. Interesting how NEWSPAPERS follow the Bushes but RAGS follow the Clintons, though.
2002-11-24 03:38:02 PM
Crotch: You have no problems contributing to Bush-bashing, so shove your hypocrisy.
2002-11-24 03:40:27 PM
If anyone cares, I thought most of the coverage of the Bush twins was in pretty bad taste, but I understand the urge of the media to cover it (though I do agree, it is crappy of them to do). I just get sick of this pissing and moaning about the "Liberal Media", especially in these Bush-dittoistic days. And yes, Bush is still an imbecile in my eyes, not because he's conservative, or Republican, or Texan, but because it's pretty obvious (to me, anyway) that he's corrupt as hell, and little more than well-connected Good Ol' Bou trying to get too much power.

2002-11-24 03:40:55 PM
Crotchrocket is once more right on the money:
"The Gore's are boring, thus no coverage. The Clinton's and Bush's, however, remain entertaining, thus more coverage."

the "media"s job is to generate revenue for the conglomerates (General Electric, Disney, Fox, AOL-Time Warner, Tribune, Viacom - the owners and CEO's of which are all extreme conservatives) that own the various outlets. If there is a "Liberal" bent in the mainstream media, it is only in place because it increases sales (Viewers, readers, listeners, etc.).
2002-11-24 03:41:54 PM
I don't think anyone considers the Sun a serious newspaper CAP, and I already covered most or your "retort" in my previous post.
2002-11-24 03:42:49 PM
Media is my area of expertise and study... don't mess with me.
2002-11-24 03:43:13 PM
Jenna's future husband (on the right):
[image from too old to be available]

In trying to find his pic, which took farking forever and dates back to 2000, I found what appear to be two different DWI's -- one in Currituck County, NC and one on a military base in Virginia. He attends Harvard now.

He and Jenna are about the right age for each other; both come from redneck-accented families, and both probably don't deserve to be in the colleges they attend. I say introduce them to each other. They'll be snorting coke off each other's glistening thighs in no time.
2002-11-24 03:44:06 PM
I may be wrong about this, but I believe Rupert Murdoch, owner of FOX News "Fair and Unbalanced, We report - YOU decide" also owns the "Sun".
2002-11-24 03:44:40 PM
Telemakhos is looking like he might save this thread yet.
2002-11-24 03:45:08 PM
They both need to lose some weight, too.
2002-11-24 03:56:45 PM
"Media is my area of expertise and study... don't mess with me." Hmmm...too bad, doesn't really show.

The Sun just happened to be the "watermark" on the photos, I certainly don't consider it to be much of a paper either, but thanks for jumping to conclusions. And since you brought up papers...The New York Times--When Pravda Just Isn't Enough.

Face it Crotch, when someone crashes your cozy little "We're all Repub/Conservative/Bush-bashers here" thread of the moment you can't take what you ham-handedly try dishing out. It's pretty funny seeing you "come down" on me (as if you could) with "And the thread takes a slide into the shiatter..." but again, a dig at the Bushes results in "Telemakhos is looking like he might save this thread yet." You are wonderful at constantly proving the point of standard lib/left hypocrisy, I couldn't do it without you.
2002-11-24 03:57:02 PM
And here's what their daughter might look like -

CAP811 -

2002-11-24 04:04:10 PM
2002-11-24 04:04:43 PM
When did I say that the New York Times was completely unbiased? It'll admit it and try to minimize its bent at least, unlike Fox News, which is so biased it might as well be Bush Propaganda. Can you actually point out something about media which I said that was wrong?

Also, this isn't a Bush-bashing thread (well, it kinda turned into it, but it didn't have to), this is a "make fun of the Bush twins because they are human beings too" thread. Politicians invest way too much time in making themselves seem perfect, so of course people are going to take delight when they/those close to them foul up.

And your reading comprehension skills are further showing their inadequacies CAP... Telemakhos's post equally made fun of AG III as much as JB.
2002-11-24 04:06:22 PM
And if the Sun sucks even in your opinion, why post pics with their watermark on them? Surely, if more reputable papers will run trash like those Chelsea Clinton pics, you could find a source that won't sink your cred even further around here.

Booyah! I win!
2002-11-24 04:15:49 PM
And if anyone thinks that my bias - which I will readilly admit, unlike some asses around here who think that they are objective - clouds my vision entirely, I did admit that I'd hit Lauren Bush, and maybe the younger Barbara. Not Jenna so much; can't stands them bleached blondes.
2002-11-24 04:16:30 PM
Booyah! You don't! as I'm still replying with a basically cogent post, not a desperate epithet-laden acronymn. I do not shudder with worry about my "cred" as you so street-wisely put it, since you have clearly demonstrated the odds of you being the sole arbiter of credibility are .shiat/infinity.

Let's see, thread with people poking fun, I contribute in my own way, you of course can't handle that, and now you're trying to dredge up any feeble cause for an argument you can find (Heavens! I don't think much of the Sun but I DARED to use photos from them! What a terrible lad am I.) We could waltz like this until Clinton made his STD-related medical records public, but you keep tripping over your toes and the other dancers are beginning to make comments...
