That's "Conservative" not "conservative".

There's a difference.

(though, sadly, an ever-smaller difference. don't blame me. I voted for the Liberals)

From today's Globe and Mail

He didn't like it all that much. "I am a 74-year-old, old fogey, and young people would probably see the humour more than I would," the Liberal senator said.

But neither was he scandalized. "There are a lot of very pretty women and a lot of very handsome men in the movie and they are, in fact, having intercourse, but certainly not in a pornographic way."

Note to all Canadians (since this thread went green)

The core of this article is that the film YPF recieved tax credits in order to make their film. Various conservative Conservatives don't like that.

If you like good Canadian film and TV -- especially TV programming with some raunch to it like Robson Arms or Trailer Park Boys or films like Fido, FUBAR or Young People fakring -- can you PLEASE write your MP a note asking him/her to remove the language in the proposed tax code (bill C-18) which will essentially install a censorship element to the granting of tax credits for films.

Send an e-mail. The film and TV industry thanks you.

Way to be tolerant Canada, and to think everyone assumed you had a squeaky clean image. Not so different from America after all! Suck on that Michael Moore.

So yeah, write to your MP.

Gothmolly: What's wrong with the government of Canada wanting a say in how movies are made, when they're footing the bill?

Because the government wants to be able to take the tax credit away after production has finished if they decide they don't like the content.

Though many films get funds by Telefilm, this bill mainly addresses how the film-makers get taxed.
If, after viewing a particular film, the gov disapproves, the film is denied tax breaks all other films get.

So if a film features a teen smoking a joint and doesn't go starkers a la reefer madness, then woe to the producers.

It's indirect censorship.
