Well this should be a lovely thread of right-wingers attacking one of America's longest-standing allies.

2008-05-26 03:34:09 PM
They didn't hate us in 1944...

2008-05-26 05:43:30 PM
Actually, French hatred of America was virtually nonexistent until 1492 when Bush was elected president.

Your username suddenly makes sense.

The French don't hate Americans, the French-Canadians do though. Then again, they hate everybody.

2008-05-26 05:55:29 PM
I have one uncle buried in France, and another in Belgium. No one in my family has ever been to their graves. This is very cool to know that my uncles are not forgotten.

That made me laugh a bit.

Which is good, because the article tried to make me cry.
Damn French making me feel emotions and shiat!

The problem is the hate coming from this side of the pond.

The French hate the English, not Americans.

It's easy to confuse us, though.

2008-05-26 05:57:28 PM
The French don't like this war, but they're nice to us...or at least the French girl I met this semester is like that to me.

2008-05-26 05:57:35 PM
Damn grateful French.
*sniff*

I, for one, will pass up the next opportunity to
make fun of the French that comes along....in honor...but

Luxembourg has its own cemetery with thousands of American soldiers, every one adopted by a local family. I was taken there by a local guy in 1980.

Anyone else notice that the article says her last name is Malcolm when the pictures clearly show that the grave says Malcomb?

Unright: Well this should be a lovely thread of right-wingers neo-cons attacking one of America's longest-standing allies ally.

HAS ANYONE APOLOGIZED TO THE FRENCH FOR CUSSING THEM BEFORE THE F**KING IRAQ WAR YET?
/Sorry; 3rd time asking ...

It's Parisians that look-down on the rest of the human race, and with some reason; especially 'Murcans, and with some Substantial Reason.

The French don't hate America. They hate Republicans.

The real problem is that Republicans think they're America.

Not all of them do, just the socialist ones do.

The French are farking awesome - good food, wine, women, culture. Oh, and they bailed our asses out against the English 250 years ago.

So, fark any uneducated jingoist hillbilly who dislikes them for opposing a stupid, pointless war.

Mr.Insightful: The French don't hate America. They hate Republicans.

No, the real problem is both sides think they know everything, including you, dummy. If the French hate Republicans why did they just elect what is essentially their version of a Republican in Mr. Sarkozy? In my experience the French have a love/hate relationship with America, and many of the same things they hate about us are well reflected in their own culture. It's quite nuanced, and laying it on one side or the other politically is the height of ignorance.

I love the French... But I will kick a French-Canadian square in the nuts!

2008-05-26 06:06:15 PM
According to weather.gov, there's about 39 towns/cities in the US with 'Lafayette' in the name. I wonder how many French haters live in those towns?

/Izzard!

Sadsaque: You're 100% correct. I've been to France a couple of times, and the only time the "rude Frenchman" stereotype came to pass was in downtown Paris. I met some of the nicest people in Normandy.

2008-05-26 06:06:49 PM
i never did understand some americans' hatred of the french. it's truly sad and ignorant.

seems like it's all because the french don't support the war in iraq (which they have every right to). fact is, the majority of french admire and respect us and what our nation has accomplished. sarkozy is so pro-america it's actually kind of weird. but the french are just frustrated by our government's actions as of late. i believe that, deep down, they our truly grateful for what we have done for them, and would gladly fight alongside us in any true (and righteous) war in which we actually need their help.

There are a lot of dead Brits, Canadians, New Zealanders and Australians in France yet for some reason we don't spend all our time reminding the French of this fact or telling them that they "owe us".

2008-05-26 06:07:12 PM
Everyone who thinks the French didnt want the war, because they are some super utopia are dopes.. They were getting a sweet deal from Saddam in the Oil For Food Scandal.

Redscum,

Just look at her nose and hairy pits and legs. No question where she came from in the first place.

The only jerks I encountered in France were in museum and landmark gift shops. Buy your knick knacks from the guys with the kiosks on the sidewalk. They were one hundred times nicer.

Thank You.

That's a great organization and very thoughtful. I'm sure the families over here really appreciate that their family members are not forgotten.

You win moron-o-the-day award... The French opposed invading Iraq because it cost them money. No more illegal contracts with Saddam.

Makes sense - we lost more men on behalf of France than they did.

/Not supported by statistics

My only French story: I went out with a French guy one time in college, and the date ended with him literally begging me to "Sock mah deek! Oh, pleeeeeese! Eet's been so long!"

Not the typical rude Frenchman stereotype, but not exactly polite, either.

Unright: Well this should be a lovely thread of right-wingers attacking one of America's longest-standing allies.

I voted for Democrats in the last election. Part of being a middle of the road Independent. Though I'm not a "right winger" by any stretch, I'm still pissed at France. They sold the U.S out because of the oil for food program. That is not an ally. That is a pariah.

My family is French and I wish that we didn't fall into that 2nd wave immigrant tendency to completely dump your heritage in order to be more "American". I would have loved to have grown up learning the language, history and culinary traditions. The only tradition my family has now is drinking Pabst and hating brown people.

Waste of time, the corpses don't know or care if dead flowers get placed above them or not.

/Some wine and cheese should be placed in front of me though, I know and care.
