I'm taking your advice, Subby. I'm almost on my 4,000th beer.

2008-05-26 03:28:39 AM
Shiat, I'll have one for the ones that did make it back as well.

For those of you who did, and will read this, I also thank you from the bottom of my heart.

You've almost caught up with the Führer President. We're already a bit pst the 4K mark.

Much obliged. I'd have one since it's gonna be my last day off for the next 3 weeks or so, but I'm gonna spend the morning asleep (been working since 3pm yesterday and I don't get off till 7am) and the afternoon packing my bags for AT (Annual Training - Nat'l Guard FXT) which starts Tuesday.

Not really looking forward to going to the woods to play Army for 3 weeks, but I'm out of the Army this November and AT will be my final FTX.

As a Veteran - I will say thanks.

As a government civilian who supports soldiers in harms way right now - I say that we can't thank them enough.

And let's not forget our Sailors, Marines, and Airmen who have served honorably and sacrificed everything.

2008-05-26 04:05:49 AM
i will, as i normally do on Veteran's Day and Memorial Day, go to the local National Cemetary, have a seat in the grass, and say thanks in person, so to speak.

Thank you to all who made the ultimate sacrifice.

Thank you to all those who gave their lives. I'll have one tonight for the kids who never made it to their 21st birthdays.

Somehow, "thank you" doesn't feel like a strong enough phrase today.

2008-05-26 08:32:18 AM
With grateful thanks and deep respect for all those who have died in service and for all those who serve/have served.

Miss you guys. Thanks.

Never has there been a better use of the hero tag.

From the birthplace of Memorial Day, Waterloo NY, I say, Thank You.

To everyone who has served both past and present and for those who gave their lives and their limbs, thank you. We are the luckiest country in the world because of the wonderful men and women who serve.

Last Fall I had the opportunity to perform two full Military Funerals for WWII vets, a Colonel and a MSgt. I was the one to receive the flag from the Honor Guard, render the final salute, and present the flag to the widow along with the speech. That is the toughest thing you'll ever do.

Thanks to all my Brothers who gave all they had!

In Flanders fields the poppies blow
Between the crosses, row on row,
That mark our place; and in the sky
The larks, still bravely singing, fly
Scarce heard amid the guns below.

We are the dead. Short days ago
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,
Loved, and were loved, and now we lie
In Flanders fields.

Take up our quarrel with the foe:
To you from failing hands we throw
The torch; be yours to hold it high.
If ye break faith with us who die
We shall not sleep, though poppies grow
In Flanders fields.
- John McCrae

I'm sorry...I think I've got something in my eye...

I'm remembering my uncle. He was a casualty of the Gulf War. He didn't die during the war. He died years later from debilitating cancer in his pancreas that arose from exposure to chemicals during the war. There is really no good way to die, but dying from pancreatic cancer is one way I definitely do not want to go.

*raises glass*

To my Grandfather, who took two shots to the chest in WW2. I never knew the guy, but that doesn't matter.

To my father, who came back from Vietnam and went on to teach high school for 30 years. Happily retired and loves being a crotchety granddad.

To those who served, thank you. To those who never made it back, may you rest in peace, and never be forgotten.

To my Great Uncles Floyd and Edward who died in WWII - one at Guadalcanal on the USS Quincy and the other in the Battle at Leyte Gulf.

I never got to meet you but you have never been forgotten!!

And please remember that the true enemy to our troops is not some nameless brown man in the middle east. The true enemy of our troops resides in the White House and has been sending our children, friends, parents to die based on falsehoods and greed. The true enemies of our troops sit in the House and Senate and continue to enable the man that sends them to die. The true enemy of our troops is the man that wants to continue this administration's actions over the next 4, 8 even 100 years.

I was wondering when this would devolve into a partisan puke session.

Let's forget the current crap for a sec and focus on history?

I have a bottle of Asahi here that expresses my gratitude to all who served and who serve, whether they came back with their eyes open or not.

My little sister is retiring this summer and I am very proud of her. As for my bit, the military did more for me than I could have otherwise.
Thank you to all who have served and to their families who have sacrificed profoundly.

I want to thank all those who have served. Those who died, and those who made it back. Especially those of you who left some part of yourself behind. There is no greater thing a person can do than put themself in harms way to help another. Be well and God bless.

PC LOAD LETTER I was wondering when this would devolve into a partisan puke session

heh, i was going to preempt & allude to that earlier, but figured it would lead to a self fulfilling prophecy of sorts. but it is fark so it was inevitable anyway

To all who have served and those who continue to do so, thank you.

2008-05-26 09:06:35 AM
My thanks to all others who have served.

My ultimate gratitude and respect for those who died too young. Regardless of politics, these men and women layed down their lives for something they believed in. Our country. They gave up all that they would ever be, all the smiles, joy, tears, and pain, everything that makes life worth living, for an ideal. Every single one died a hero, and we should honor them as such.
