I have very little faith in Bush, but gods of light surely he can't be so stupid as to start an invasion months before he is out of office. I also can't see Congress going along with it.

i wouldn't put it past bush to order an attack without involving congress. but in such a case, i would LOVE it if his generals simply refused (as well they should).

Heh. A new strategy to achieve surprise. "We're going to attack you on Date X, at Y o'clock. We're announcing it all over the world." "No one could be that stupid. Tell the troops to stand down." "Boom."

/I mean, really. Does anyone actually think that we'd tell someone in the Israeli government first, a person who would then broadcast the information everywhere?

I thought Jerusalem was just a city out of some fantasy novel, sort of like Narnia. I forgot the exact title but wasn't it in that one about the magical Jewish carpenter with the whole ironic twist at the end where the other Jews end up nailing him to some wood?

About the only thing he could really do without involving congress would be air strikes, and unfortunately I have NO faith that the upper echelons of the Air Force would tell him to take a hike. The brass there are filled with the sort of christian evangelical that would love the opportunity to scream, "Deus Vult!"

Well, they're probably waiting for a "new Pearl Harbor", like when they tried to sell us on the fact that Iranian weapons are flowing over the Iraqi border.

"In his capacity as an administrator, it is often necessary for a member of the Inner Party to know that this or that item of war news is untruthful, and he may be aware that the entire war is spurious and is either not happening or is being waged for purposes quite other than the declared ones: but such knowledge is easily neutralized by the technique of doublethink. Meanwhile no Inner Party member wavers for an instant in his mystical belief that the war is real, and that it is bound to end victoriously, with Oceania the undisputed master of the entire world."

"Tard"? Really?

Yeah, people like that GaryPDX: got us into war. It had nothing to do with Saddam Hussein violating UN sanctions, torturing and murdering his own people by the hundreds of thousands, attacking his neighbors, lobbing missiles at Saudi Arabia and Israel and trying to monopolize middle eastern oil supplies.

Once I had a yo-yo
shiny clean and new
I held it close to my heart
my love for it was true

My yo-yo worked perfectly
up and down it went
around the world
walk the dog
I played til I was spent

I took it with me everywhere
showed it to every friend
an example for all to envy
a love to never end

Then one day I awoke to a fright
my yo-yo had been about in the night
It gave mom a savage beating
One she never can forget
It keyed the car and smashed the house
It disemboweled the family pet

So now my yo-yo sits in a drawer
Our loving bond I had to sever
I hope one day it will calm back down
For at one time it was clever

No, people who think that war is the only solution got us into this mess in the first place. Acknowledging that humanity will not suddenly become pacifists isn't part of the problem.
