Somebody photoshop an "I Want To Believe" version for atheists.

Let me explain how it works, subby. See, the NCLB has a provision in it called AYP, which stands for Annual Yearly Improvement. Basically, it's not good enough for a school to simply post good results one year...it's got to post BETTER results next year, otherwise it's failing to make AYP. And that's just as bad as failing, see?

It's the same thing with faith. This is NCLB of a difference stripe (you can guess what the "C" stands for now, I assume?). Once upon a time, it was enough for a true believer to demonstrate his faith through a small gold cross. After a while, that wasn't enough anymore to continue making AYP. So, you had the little plastic fish to put on cars, and that was good enough for a while, although you really needed more than one to balance things out. God like symmetry. But after a while, if you hadn't added at least one bumpersticker to the mix, you were again failing. A nice WWJD? one would work, or a pro-life one in a pinch. Maybe one of those "in case of Rapture, this vehicle would be unoccupied," although I'll tell you quite frankly that God found those a little presumptuous. But now here we are, time to re-evaluate your standing and achievement, and where are you gonna go from here? That's right, the license plate.

Remember, opposing this is just like opposing NCLB. The other one, I mean. Think of the children.

Can I get a "The FSM has blessed me with his noodly appendage" plate?

You know what, that is a little verbose. How about "TFSMHBMWHNA"? Yeah, that looks much better. I like that one.

I want a "Crom can beat up your god" license plate.

I can't believe that the atheist legion that is Fark has not risen up in anger and indignation over this. Come on guys, you can do it.

A fool and his money are some party.

I guess this would make it easier to decide whose car to ram if I'm in a bad mood.

It's still early, and it's raining here in Babylon NYC.

Any court case that gets presented against this now will fail. The fun will begin when another religion, say... Wiccan, meets all the standard criteria for a custom plate (minimum # of preorders, etc), but is not allowed because it is deemed "inappropriate". THAT will be the court case to watch.

Not like it will really ever get made. The court will rule against it. If you allow this then you have to let the Jewish people have a plate with the Star of David, you have to let the Muslims have their symbol (I forget it's name), and you have to let the Jedi's have their lightsabers.

Now that being said I wouldn't have heartburn about them having it as long as they let all other religions have their on own specialty plate too. If that happens I'm going to move to Florida and pray to the Gods that I can have Mount Olympus on my tag.

THIS.

That, too. First thing I thought of, actually.

Or, the license plate with a UFO on it instead of a cross.

Furious Mongoose: ...you have to let the Muslims have their symbol (I forget it's name)....

I believe it's the "Beheaded Fish"

And, yes, what a bold statement of faith it is to send an extra $20 to the DMV. Those wussies who faced the Inquisition or those today who live in fear of their very lives due to their beliefs are pikers compared to the man who puts a license plate on his minivan!

Don't underestimate the power of stupid.

We've had similar plates in Indiana for a few years now.

or a Harry Potter plate, because we all know how a children's book series promotes witchcraft and Satanism and other nasties to the impressionable children of America.

Shouldn't this be an asinine tag? I hope the proceeds of the sales of this plate go to a good charity and not some evangelic Christian bastards.

I wonder if FL has a rule that they will consider a plate if 400 people say they'll buy one.

You think there's 400 FL Farkers out there who'd shell out an extra $35 a year for a FSM plate? I know I would.

Excellent, this will make picking the athiest out of soceity alot easier. Wont have to work as hard to keep them from working/dating/shopping/living around decent upstanding folks!

H3|| why cant we just put some sort of patch on em to make it even easier?

Still can't figure out the Cool tag...

2008-05-22 09:17:46 AM
As long as these plates follow the same rules as any other specialty plates AND other religious groups can get ones too (if they have the numbers), then I don't have an issue with it.

I find it handy when people of these groups identify themselves.

The license plate argument from a few weeks ago was due to the fact that there was no surcharge for the christian one ... which endorses one religion over others since the others would have to pay.

Ummmm.....you owe me a new monitor. There is coffee all over it now from laughing so hard.

On a different note.....I cannot believe this is what our country worries about now. Nevermind that Florida is graduating fully functioning retards from their high schools and people are actually moving OUT of the "Sunshine State". It's more important we have a license plate honoring a mythological being. Hooray Florida! Glad I moved out, although moving to North Carolina hasn't exactly gotten me away from the religious nuts
