Hm.. Isnt that a QUAKE 3 engine? Thought Doom 3 = Quake?
2001-08-13 03:35:48 PM
Hmm, farked... We need a mirror.
2001-08-13 03:46:08 PM
farked already.....bah
2001-08-13 03:52:45 PM
This is done with the Quake 3 engine. Excape form the Bastille was released as a Quake 3 map at QuakeCon. Doom 3, which is in development may use the Quake 3 engine, or it may have it's own written-from-scratch engine. I don't think they've decided yet.
2001-08-13 03:54:29 PM
Wow! One of my posts actually made it!

OK, I was under the impression that this was done using the Doom 3 engine. I read this somewhere.

Y.Dload - quit being a dumbass. I don't want to have to remove more of your comments
2001-08-13 04:05:29 PM
Mme.Mersault: yes, and they're called .bsp nowadays
2001-08-13 04:05:32 PM
Actually the Doom 3 engine is a whole new engine (or, atleast a re-write of the Quake 3 engine, but it is totally different, new lighting, etc). This 'movie' is only an elaborate demo for Quake 3. it is being run through Quake 3's engine.
2001-08-13 04:16:13 PM
Mme.Mersault - they're referred to as .PK3 or "PAK" files these days. They hold a lot more information than the old Doom and Doom 2 files and are in a much different format. .BSP files are then converted into the .PK3 files. I'm not sure if the Q3A engine can parse the .BSP files directly.

.PK3 files are actually zipfiles containing maps, sounds, models, etc

you can use regular .BSP files in /quake3/baseq3/maps just fine

(in a pedantic mood today)
2001-08-13 04:31:49 PM
Yeah, the Quake paks are just zip files. If you have winzip, you can open them up and mess around with what's inside. Kind of fun.
2001-08-13 04:42:43 PM
Aha! .zip files! Now I shall have some fun with that stuff.

fark: the q3/d3 mod.
it's a quest for boobies, with an intoxication level instead of a health meter. good stuff.

Wasn't Lord Fark.Wad a character in Shrek?
2001-08-13 06:34:50 PM
I'd like to correct all of you. I feel so smart when I do this. Muahahahaha.

I'll use Mme.Mersault's example of creating a Fark level with Drew and the Fark computer as bosses.

If you were simply trying to create the map itself, then .bsp would be fine to use.

However, this would not enable you to input the Drew/Fark Computer bosses.

.bsp files are simply enough, map files. No more, no less.

in order to make new characters, sounds, animation, etc. etc., you would need to make a .PAK file. Like someone else said, they are basically just .zip files made for Quake.

I've been playing Quake2 since it came out, and I've downloaded every single modification under the farking sun.

Actually, now that I think about it, I think that in moving from Q2 to Q3, id Software changed the file extension on these exclusive Quake zip files to .PK3.

Why, I don't know, but oh well. I never really got into Q3, mostly because my computer sucks. But's that another point entirely.

Ah, another idea. Aren't brains wonderful?

I think that any of us Farkers who play Q2 should organize a date/time/server, and have a Fark Q2 tournament.

I can hear you Q3/UT fans biatching already. You can do the same for your respective games. I'm just interested in the Q2 idea.

Sound interesting? Let's get some feedback on this.

Hopefully it'll work out and we'll be able to pull something off.

Oh, and remember: 1 fr4gg3d j00r 4zz, b1tz!

if there is interest in a fark Q1/2/3 server, I can hook that up
2001-08-13 07:16:36 PM
I'm in as long as it's CTF. Otherwise, it is pointless free-for-all (which implies no point just in that phrase alone).

[pimp]and if there's interest in a UT server you can use my maps[/pimp]

2001-08-13 08:03:29 PM
A UT server would be great. I'll smack all yo asses!!!
2001-08-13 08:04:52 PM

2001-08-13 08:09:05 PM

2001-08-13 08:10:43 PM
Nevermind, I got it to work, be back in 40 minutes to comment. :p

[image from too old to be available]

i'll make a one if anyone is interested.

Rock on, Joe.

Doom 3 is totally stand alone from the Quake engines. I've read that it is actually capable of real-time lighting and shadows (not just isolated points of light, like a flashlight). That's a big step! Haven't you ever noticed in games when you open a door from a dark hallway to a bright room that no light pours out or anything? Supposedly Doom 3 is capable of this. Or maybe I'm just fulla shiat.

Oh, and this thing is farked cuz its on fileplanet (which I thought was getting better, but I've been proven wrong apparently :p).
2001-08-13 08:54:43 PM
D'oh. Its not on Fileplanet. My mistake. The dl link is still farked though. If its what it says it is, VE will probably post it with a few mirrors.
2001-08-13 09:05:03 PM
The Goss family needs to be shot for wasting my time. :p

2001-08-13 09:15:37 PM
I'll play UT CTF any day of the week!

2001-08-13 09:22:43 PM
leopold, i'd recomend CTF-BridgeXL available at

it's the best CTF map i've ever played and it looks great. CTF-DamTooFar also on that site is also excellent fun.
2001-08-13 10:00:57 PM
i love UT! I'm often in the CTF levels, specifically the asteroid Facing World's levels. Give me a headshot and i'll buy you a beer. Name is JAxom's Lotus in there
2001-08-13 10:04:55 PM
There's an older movie at GameSpot that I think they took from MacWorld.s/action /doom3/
I'm downloading it now, but its biiig and slooow.
2001-08-13 10:11:27 PM
This is actually just a movie made by a group that calls themselves "Tritin Films" where they took Q2 and Q3A characters and put them in 3DSMax and other 3D modelling programs and made a movie based on the Q2 storyline. It has nothing to do with DooM ]|[.
2001-08-13 10:14:36 PM
wouldnt it be cooler if you could actually download it
2001-08-13 10:17:21 PM
I have, go to FilePlanet and get it.
2001-08-14 01:30:57 AM
When you want to download, you have to wait in imaginary queuelines while they show you advertisments, and pimp their "Paid users" download mirrors where theres no wait at all. Its all shiat.
Go to the mirrors mark "N/A" first, usualy they stick that there to cover up that its a direct link ot the download, and you wouldnt have to wait anyway.

Play urban terror.... Its the shiat.

Joe_Devola - I've got that map, played it numerous times as well. My favourites are the more obscure ones such as:
• CTF-Broadside Remix
• CTF-Trisizium
• CTF-Darji16
• CTF-Battlezone
• CTF-Bedrooms
• CTF-CarPark
• CTF-CivilWar
• CTF-DDay
• CTF-HallofGiants
• CTF-Hydro16
• CTF-McSwartzly][
• CTF-OldSkool
• CTF-UTvsDoom
• CTF-WarZone

Some people say I'm pretty hopeless - see for yourself here.
