It'll be real quiet around here for a while..:)

I'll vote for him. That way when I'm getting Reginald Denny'd I can scream, "But I voted for Obama"!!!

The only comment from me with your name in it will be a request for you to pay up on our bet.

Internet wagering is illegal and a violation of your Fark.com TOS. Why do you hate laws, hippy?

GaryPDX: It'll be real quiet around here for a while..:)

Not as quiet as it was after the beating Republicans had in 2006. It took until the beginning of the primary debates before any of the "Democrats are gonna lose big Muahahahahahaha! Fear our Republican might as we tear apart your pathetic candidates!" folks bothered to even do hit and runs on a thread.

MFL: I hate farking charts but here is one for a side by side comparison.

Yup, as I thought. Nixon cut overall spending. That's the mark of fiscal conservatism. It's not 'cutting only certain types of spending'. That's the neocon "super military" extremism that started your party's downfall. And yet you still refuse to see it, even after it blows up in your face time and time again. Clinton was a better fiscal conservative than any one of the miserable hacks you've put up for president in the last 30 years. I considered myself a Republican until I started facing the facts instead of hiding from them. You're a smart guy. Figure it out.

Fark has become nothing but a staging ground for an Obama campaign. The sheer profundity of threads dedicated to this retard only proves the incredible bias that Fark admins have and the gigantic hard-on they sport for this inexperienced clown.

We need more stories about drunken starlets, Ron Paul, and physically deformed animals. We need less relevant stories and more inane pablum. We also need more stories about how Iraq has become a shining beacon of blissful democracy thanks to our fearless leadership, and about how our economy is recovering wonderfully from the hiccup that was the small dip in the housing market.

"For some time now, there has been plenty of talk among pundits and pollsters that the political divide in this country has fallen sharply along religious lines. Indeed, the single biggest "gap" in party affiliation among white Americans today is not between men and women, or those who reside in so-called Red States and those who reside in Blue, but between those who attend church regularly and those who don't.

Conservative leaders have been all too happy to exploit this gap, consistently reminding evangelical Christians that Democrats disrespect their values and dislike their Church, while suggesting to the rest of the country that religious Americans care only about issues like abortion and gay marriage; school prayer and intelligent design.

Democrats, for the most part, have taken the bait. At best, we may try to avoid the conversation about religious values altogether, fearful of offending anyone and claiming that - regardless of our personal beliefs - constitutional principles tie our hands. At worst, there are some liberals who dismiss religion in the public square as inherently irrational or intolerant, insisting on a caricature of religious Americans that paints them as fanatical, or thinking that the very word "Christian" describes one's political opponents, not people of faith.

Now, such strategies of avoidance may work for progressives when our opponent is Alan Keyes. But over the long haul, I think we make a mistake when we fail to acknowledge the power of faith in people's lives -- in the lives of the American people -- and I think it's time that we join a serious debate about how to reconcile faith with our modern, pluralistic democracy."

This is from a speech Barack Obama gave in 2006. You can read more here. The point of posting this is that if we're going to have thread-shiatting by trolls, I might as well thread-shiat with some constructive information about the candidate and his thoughts.

2008-05-20 01:54:57 PM
His inevitable defeat will be interesting to witness from this perspective. I can hear the excuses now: Rigged. Racists. Electoral College. Conservative Media. Danlpoon.

I'm not sure it's "inevitable," but if Obama does indeed lose (I think it's going to be close and ugly), the shouts of "racism!" will certainly abound, no matter if they're true or false (it would be "sexism!" is Hillary was the candidate). And, if Obama loses and it's close, it'll go to court faster than lightning.

Sad, but true.

//why, no, I didn't address McCain
///I doubt people will call "ageism!"

MFL: Reagan took on the Soviets economically with the arms race and won. Hence the increases in defense spending which he was completely right to do so. I know democrats will go to the grave not admitting this strategy worked so I'm not going to waste my time debating it. But he also (like I said above) decreased domestic spending with a farking democrat controlled congress to boot. If you can name me the last president to do that besides him I'll buy you a beer.

You make it sound like drastic increases in military spending and decreases in domestic spending is a good thing.

2008-05-20 02:02:54 PM
I think the Democrats had it in the bag until the Primary opened wounds that otherwise would have waited until October.

It's a great advantage for McCain because he can craft his message off the reactions to the Dem primary. Lucky for Dems he doesn't seem particularly skilled at it.

I'm curious, do you remember when you and I first talked at each other? As I recall, you and your family were high tailing it out of NOLA the night of Katrina and you were Farking from your car. People were posting up radar pics for you. Do you remember that?

We didn't see you for a week.

Actually, I wasn't Farking from my car. I was already at my grandmother's house in Memphis because we happened to be visiting. D_I_A emailed me and I got access to the internet at a hotel. That was well after the storm had passed, though.

This was that night..a handful of farkers were posting up weather radar pics for someone trying to get out. It was...dramatic for a little while there.

My mother-in-law's cousin was a forecaster with the NHC in Miami at the time. We were getting phone updates regularly. My father-in-law and sister-in-law were still here because they were working in a local hospital. Tense night.

Great example of how much that can guy can babble without saying a thing. The problem is, that if you actually forced him to lay out specifics, it would checklist leftist secular humanism.

As far as caricatures go, the left invented it when they took Nativity scenes out of the public square, took down the 10 Commandments, and prohibited the Boy Scouts from meeting on school property (but not "LGBT we'll fark anything" club).

Ironic that they would call us the irrational and intolerant ones....

2008-05-20 02:22:44 PM
Nabb1: And BTW, Obdicut, if I'm off the mark, answer be this: did you type that long post up about why I should vote for Obama off the cuff specifically in response to my comment, or is that a canned response you have saved and at the ready for occasions like this? Because if you can type that damned fast, I'll can my secretary right now and you can have her job.

An Obama pitch is indeed germane in an Obama thread.

There's no shouting on the internet. Just scroll if you don't want to read it.

A temporary increase in military spending to achieve a stated, and vital, goal is an excellent thing. Contrariwise, blindly increasing domestic is not necessarily a good thing. By any articulated goals, spending on welfare, housing, and most other social engineering projects dating from LBJ's Great Society have been abject failures. The only thing they can point to is amount of money spent, and hang their heads in shame at explosion of problems they claim to address.
