No non-reusable plates.

As though tossing a Chinet plate is somehow less ecologically friendly than pouring gallons of treated water onto plates and dealing with the resulting liquid offal.

Fried foods are forbidden

So much for the southern vote.

The RNC likely has baby hearts and puppy guts on its menu.

It says non-reusable *or* recyclable *or* compostable in TFA. So no styrofoam, but recyclable paper plates are fine.

That doesn't seem too bad; though I'm a bit more perplexed at the color requirements. I imagine they're trying to create some sort of "theme" or just have a lot of colorful food (as opposed to barely colored rice and shrimp etc), but still...

"Blue could be a challenge," joked Ed Janos, owner of Cook's Fresh Market in Denver. "All I can think of are blueberries."

Really? Then you must suck as a caterer.

Other than blue potatoes and blueberries, what other fruits and vegetables are naturally blue? I can't think of any off the top of my head.

There'd be veal, too. From calves with huge, soulful, Precious Moments figurine eyes.

I can understand wanting to be environmentally conscience considering that most environmentalists are Democrats. RNC has it easy for their convention: Catering by Ted Nugent

you know why? it's because the lunatic fringe right-wing wackos parse every single thing they say, eat, sleep on, drive, etc...

remember al gore's daughter's wedding? remember when the ditto heads had a field day because they were serving - gasp - sea bass???? turned out it was eco-friendly sea bass, but you wouldn't know it by the way the wackjob wingnuts had a conniption fit.

2008-05-19 10:58:20 PM
Oh, whatever. The DNC comes once every four years, it's their big party. So they're going all out and spending a bunch of money and went overboard on the 'eco-friendly' stuff. Why not? Woud you rather they spend all that money and get things that hurt the environment, too? Good for them!

FTFA: Agro's biggest worry is price. Using organic and local products hikes the costs.

And all that cost goes into the community. Whereas the RNC orders all it's tablewear from China, demands that the plane that brings it over use only Saudia Arabian oil, and has beaten and starved illegal immigrants serve their veal.

Republican menu:

1. Steak
2. Served in whatever, as long as it's rare
3. Pie

Look up Heirloom Produce or Ancestor Vegetables....all sorts of colors before we bred the genetic diversity out of our crops. There is one watermelon that is purple with yellow stars...really nice looking.

Pretty lame, granted. But the GOP was lobbying to pass a temporary law (in MN) to let bars stay open longer so all the God-fearing, family-values crowd could get more drunk. Apparently, it passed the State Leg., but the St. Paul City Council nixed it - they didn't want moral-majority types stumbling around and puking in the gutters any more than necessary.

I'm centre-left (yes, we spell it that way) and I find this so pathetic that my eyes are bleeding.

The blood I will sell to make black pudding, which I will on-sell to the RNC and the Goodies.

/These smug jerks are what give rational people a very, very bad name. I especially love the fact that I happen to know a lot of people who identify with this wing and eat the most amazing and expensive food you can imagine. This is the public face.

Hypocrisy in my Democratic Party? It's more likely than you think.

Do you really think the Dems hate the rich? You're falling for the Big Lie put forward by the Repubs who charge any liberal with being a Socialist. The Dems want everyone to be rich. They love capitalism just like the rest of America; they just don't like capitalism's nasty brother, unfettered free-market exploitation.

Churchill2004: Yes, because everyone needs their healthy daily serving of "blue".

You realize that was one choice in a list where not all colors had to be used, right? Meaning it's optional.

I'm no nutritionist and even I know that using the color of the foods as a rule of thumb about the kind of nutrients it will supply to you is a pretty easy way to ensure a well balanced diet. Just like in any gathering, some people will be very aware of that and others couldn't care less. Why no shoot to make the picky ones happy, especially when it's the healthiest way to eat anyway?

// I know that the whole organic fad doesn't have any scientific support (ahem...full of crap), but some people buy into it whole-heartedly. It's still fine food to eat.

2008-05-19 11:23:25 PM
If a caterer can't source fresh, local, organic foods in the middle of the summer, they're in the wrong business.

I really really really doubt that I'm falling for "the Big Lie". I tend to base my political opinions on lots of historical studies, lots of different viewpoints, actually going to places and seeing things for myself, and not ever taking anything too seriously :-)

Believe me, I've had a most interesting life that has brought me into contact with a fair few big players in the political spectrum (I, of course, am fairly inconsequential), and nothing on this Earth would surprise me in terms of what politicians are capable of/do.

Doesn't bother me too much - our system of government is the worst, except when you compare it to everything else.

/to totally bastardise a Winston Churchill comment.

Well I'm just saying that chastizing them for hypocrisy seems a bit, well, disingenuous, as if their support of the poor somehow translates into them having to be poor themselves.

Regardless of your feelings on this matter, I'd hope we can all agree on one thing - if you base your vote in any way on what a party's convention is catering, you probably deserve to be taken out and shot. You may be officially too stupid to function.

How does THAT work though? There's hypocrisy at times, but the Democrats are the folks attempting to be more sensible about consumption. Yet they are painted as elitist by their Republican counterparts who are busy living a life of monetary and environmental hedonism.

I probably should have put the whole thing in a tongue in cheek tag. :-)

I guess I was saying that it has always been rather amusing to me that both parties generally live in luxury - the Dems feel guilty about it, and the Republicans thrive on it and admit it.

Both parties generally annoy me - but I do realise that, whatever their core motive really is, the Dems do try to help those who need it the most.

The Republicans tend to self-justify with the most amazing and unprovable explanations (i.e. trickle-down economics).
