Good night, good value everyday man with a bit of spicy black pepper on the nose and light raspberry flavors who wasn't overly complex, but pleasant.

I'll open a bottle of some of his finest tonight. Toast to you, sir.

Lots of good wineries to visit in Napa and Sonoma. This one stands out both for their reserve wines, as well as one of the best tours of a large winemaking facility.

2008-05-16 07:25:28 PM
Most of the people I've met who are avid wine drinkers are usually quite pretentious until they're about 1/2 of the way through their second bottle. Then the clothes come off.

Are you saying the Mondavi has turned?

God Speed Mr. Mondavi. Anyone that can bring the beauty of the vine to the people deserves much respect. Now, the Gallo family go can to H3ll.

That beautiful and wonderfully acoustic building is the Mondavi center here in Davis. Before that we didn't get any big performances in Jazz or classical to come to Davis at all, and all of our other concerts were in UCD performance halls, which were horrible for acoustics.

Since the building was built, thanks mostly to the Mondavi family's money, I've both played in it (as part of the high school band, which they give access to the center occasionally) and heard concerts by Chick Corea, Sonny Rollins and B.B. King, and I've seen the Mythbuster guys speak there.

So regardless of their wine, I'd just like to say thanks to the man for the donation and for making that theater possible.

/my $0.02
//other Davisites will agree, I'm sure

Thanks Mr. Mondavi for making some truly wonderful wines. My family had the pleasure of sharing 2 bottles of the 1994 Opus One last year for our special wine dinner. The stuff was hands down the best wine from which we have ever pulled a cork.

He will be missed.

Because the Gallo brothers were the original Princes of Plonk.

Their wine would be A-OK for getting trashed (and nothing else) if it weren't so horridly overpriced.

I just died a little inside...

I met the man a couple of times over the years. I don't think everyone loved him, but pretty much everyone respected him for his work. He certainly was a tireless promoter of wine no matter who made it. His legacy is secure love him or hate him.

I didn't notice until after I posted. I hoped that fail would go unnoticed. For some reason, I never heard of this Mondavi dude before today.

Well played. I'll drink a toast to you and to R. Mondavi. I drank all the Woodbridge cabernet sauvignon last night. Will sauvignon blanc do until I'm able to drive to the store?

/I love being a wino
