As Popeye's locations go, the sketchier-looking the restaurant, the better the food. There's a Popeye's here in Tampa near MacDill AFB, but it's a shiny new standalone store and it's always been just 'OK.'

When I lived in New Haven, CT, there was this absolutely greasy, burned-out old Popeye's on Whalley Ave., right on the border between Yale and the ghetto. I remember the first couple of times I walked in, it was like the customers had never seen a white man up close. But they had fantastic chicken and perfect biscuits. Plus, if you went close to midnight, they'd always give you free extra chicken rather than toss it. One time I ordered a 2 pc meal and they gave me 8 pieces. But they had to be paying the health department off - the floor was coated in an inch-thick layer of permalard.

At the one on my way to work, Mondays are free chicken biscuit days if you buy a drink. Needless to say I am a breakfast regular.

In case you're an idiot, there are tons of restaurants, SOME NOT EVEN RELIGIOUSLY AFFILIATED, that offer discounts if you bring in a church bulletin. The church works that out with them like a *gasp* cross-marketing venture.

Stay away from Rotten Ron's, but give the one at Arby's a try. It's really good.
