Wow. Cyclones in Myanmar, earthquakes in China, tornadoes in the south...

I think the planet's finally gotten pissed off enough at us to start fighting back.

I submitted this, but your headline is better.

7.8 is a pretty solid quake, definitely enough to get my Californian up and going for cover.

Tremblor. As in, one of the Cobra-La characters from G.I Joe. Or was it a transformer. Or a Go-Bot. Or MASK. shiat.

I don't know much about earthquakes, but Bangkok has got to be over a thousand miles from Chengdu. Should they be able to feel the quake from that far away?

im guessing it all depends on where the two points fall on fault lines

How does that joke go? The quake was so strong it shook the Patpong girls to their feet?

i was in beijing on the 22nd floor of my office building. i ran for my farking life. i thought the building was going to collapse. i'm no engineer, but i know stuff here is not exactly built to code.

i escaped. this happened about an hour ago, and my legs are still shakey.

it's beer time.

stay safe dude. dont be so drunk that you cant deal with the aftershocks

Wow no casualties yet? That's pretty impressive since I've experienced a similar earthquake with the same power a long time ago, and there were literally thousands of people who died, crushed by buildings.

I know. What I was wishing for was something that popped up & said "this has already hit the main page" when a breaking story like this happens. However, I know there is no way that could be done. Just wishful thinking on my part.

fwiw.... I live in Beijing.

I was laying on the couch, and I felt it.

At first, I thought it might be my imagination. I'm a little under the weather today.

Then, I thought maybe it was just the wind. I live on the top floor of a 26 story building, and the wind is pretty bad today.

Then, I thought. "This is an earthquake. I'm from California. I know what these are!"

So, I looked out the window, and the people outside were walking around just like normal, as if nothing had happened.

And....

Here's your Chinese lesson for the day...

Earthquake = 地震 = di zhen

ninjakirby: 7.8 is a pretty solid quake, definitely enough to get my Californian up

Especially when you consider that most of China doesn't have the level of earthquake proofing that you find in CA. A 7.8 with the right soil type in an area with bad construction will cause some serious damage.
