I don't know who created this, but it makes me laugh every day.

Three that I thought of quickly:

Level 7 of Descent where you're up against the boss yellow robot that was armed with the insta-death missiles.

The sniper town level on Medal of Honor: Allied Assault. I died way too many times on that level until I figured out where the snipers were hiding.

Level 10 on Kaboom! for the Atari 2600.

2008-05-09 01:44:17 AM
I'd vote Donkey Kong as the hardest game.

Although that one Super Mario mod is rediculus

God that game drove me nuts

My dad beat the first boss without going big, he was a legend in my eyes for my entire childhood.

The bat caves in the early Zelda games drove me nuts to. Though everything else was pretty easy.

battletoads, first ninja turtles, festers quest

Those are my top 3 games that I've broken controllers on... battletoads the most. Hate that game to this day.

// Would play it in a second again.

2008-05-09 01:45:14 AM
Within the Boobiess was that farking Battletoads level... Fark doesn't disappoint.

/Tyson was easier than Sandman

TheCid: Uh... you should have looked up some spoilers. Even with those, it took me upwards of 100 deaths before I could beat Nethack. Then I got good at the game and beat it three times in the DevNull tournament last November. Double Top, baby.

/still not nearly as good as the guy who got it once with every role in one month AND got every conduct as well.

Bro, I got the spoilers and it still took me saving/cheating about 3000 lives. I have been playing it since I was 12 and just beat it last year at 34. Anybody who can beat it like the dudes you are talking about have NO LIVES. None. I play a lot of games and none of them have ever touched hack for replayablity and flat out D&D fun. HARDEST GAME EVER

Adremelech: Ghosts 'n Goblins on the NES gets my vote. Even level one was bastard hard.

THIS! X a million

Fark that game and the one for SNES

2008-05-09 01:46:07 AM
I was very, very surprised not to see the Battletoads hoverbike level. The moon level on Snake Rattle and Roll as well. And the last level on Psychonauts. It went from 0 to 250 as far as the difficulty scale is concerned. "No problem, no problem, no problem, OH FARK WHAT THE HELL IS THIS SHIAT?"

2008-05-09 01:46:16 AM

Fester's Quest is totally impossible without the Turbo feature of the NES Advantage. I beat it once, but only because of that controller.

Ghosts and Goblins, I just can't stand the game. Almost impossible to regain your armor so you die too quickly to really get into the game long enough to really enjoy it. Maybe it's different for others, but neither me or any of my friends ever played that game past the first or second levels before we gave up.

A really hard level? Final Stage: Robocop for NES. Unless you timed your punches right for the barrels, and shoot down the helicopters in time while you make your way down the conveyor belt before your time/battery runs out to fight the final ED-209.

Deserved Honorable Mention:

www.thealmightyguru.com

Refueling OK, Landing sucked. And to boot, the most lamest ending for your trouble.

2008-05-09 01:46:36 AM
Echoic: That can go to the Final Fantasy Tactics 1v1 in Riovanes Castle battle...

OMG Yes. Of me and my 6 friends who all own that game, 4 of them had to quit and restart just to beat it.

I would also throw out Halo 3 at the very end of the beginning mission. Just before you get air lifted out. Nothing like playing on legendary, and watching yourself and 3 buddies all get sniped before you hit the ground on the first jump. Let along trying on single player.

Phil McKraken: What a bunch amateurs! I played Nethack v3+ for 15 years before beating it once. Every level might kick your ass.

Thats pretty good Ninja started there if you got some cool loot.

Wizards, biatches. Wizards.

grantjoy: Nobody mentions Sonic the Hedgehog 2??

Damn near impossible to get past Robotnik the first time.

Sonic the Hedgehog 2 was absolutely ridiculous, but the Labyrinth in the first one was completely impossible.

Most anything on Goldeneye for 64 on 00 Agent was damn near impossible too (Facility made me want to shoot myself).

E.T. for the Atari 2600.

Another is NES Back to the Future.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, NES.

First time I ever threw my controller. I was 5 years old. If I knew a swear word at that age, I would have surely uttered it.

Gunny Highway: FF Tactics is the best story ever written for a vidya game.

You can replace that with the MGS series or if you want to keep it to an RPG, Lunar silver star story complete. Both beat tactics although it is a great story. Best FF story.

Oh and Fallout 2, for an entire game. It's damn near hell to play, it's nearly impossible to do any real damage without getting raped, but it's extremely satisfying, and enjoyable when you get anywhere. "Yes I wasted 30 rounds on one guy, but his torso exploded when I killed him. Yes, yes."

Gradius III. Man oh man.

Also, while I loved FFT soooo much, it really wasn't that hard. Orlandu broke the game, and so did the main character at the end.

Broken9754 : No Battletoads and the hoverbike level or whatever those were?

I don't consider those types of things to be "hard".

Once you memorized the pattern, it was a no brainer to get through.

I reserve the term "hard" for games where memorizing a pattern isn't going to help you.

Like Kid Chameleon on the genesis.

Sandwyrm: I thought Ninja Gaiden and the Devil May Cry series

When you talk about devil may cry being hard, you really have to mention what difficulty level the game is being played at. And wether or not the person playing has played a DMC game before.

I always laugh at that one too! I swear he looks exactly like the final boss from "Streets of Rage".

MAX PAYNE - the dream sequence. That part where you had to find your way through that dark maze in which you had to walk only on the lines of blood (or else you would fall off and die). Add on top of that the fact that you had to make these huge jumps and land just right on the next blood line (all of this with slowed-down gameplay/controller reaction).

That shiat was difficult.

Still stuck on there...

Broken9754: No Battletoads and the hoverbike level or whatever those were? I feel like I have to go find a controller to throw just thinking about that level.

I totally kicked ass on this level (8 years after originally playing it when I dug out my NES). I always got caught on the damn snow level after the snakes.

2008-05-09 01:54:38 AM
I'm actually stuck at number 5 at the moment.

That CoD4 level with all the enemies, on the hardest setting.. I gave up..

I have devised a strategy and will test it tonight.

was it just me or did anyone else spends hours trying to jump past those damn Medusa heads in the original castlevania?

Lunar SSSC and Lunar EBC are both absurdly easy. I think I had a grand total of one game over between the two of them. Once you realize that your party's survivability depends on spamming heal and just whittling the enemies down, the game ends there. Now, if you run away from battles and get yourself behind in levels, it'll take you a lot longer; but that's a dumb thing to do in the first place. I've found that most RPGs, if you get every item in the first dungeon onwards and fight every battle you come across, you will be perfectly leveled by the time you get to the end and you'll never have to go level up. You'll also have all the loot.

Lunar 2 EBC was especially easy because you had near-permanent invincibility if you just cast White Dragon Protect every turn (and used the MP restore items when necessary) and called it a day.

Ghosts 'n Goblins on the NES gets my vote. Even level one was bastard hard.

Holy mother of crap, agreed. I was so pissed off by the ending. Ditto, Ultima Exodus.

What about Ironsword: Wizards and Warriors?

That was pretty damn annoying too. Anyone remember a game called Faxanadu? I loved it to pieces back in the day, but the last castle maze was a pain in the bum.

I am proud to say that I beat Kid Icarus on the Wii much faster than I did when I was a kid, but it had me gritting my teeth. Farking eggplant wizards:( Also, killing Mother Brain in the first Metroid- not so much because it's that hard on its own, but the LAG, dear god, the lag...

The husband's playing Super R-Type. I'm not even attempting that one.

/Proud to say I beat Mike Tyson

I always thought that the hidden monster (Dullahan) in Golden Sun 2 was pretty hard. In order to get to it you had to get all of the djinn from the first game, transfer that data to the 2nd game, & then get all of the djinn in the 2nd game. Then you could go & try to beat a guy that's unbeatable unless you had an insanely high level.

Hi troll, lemme give you a snack.

1) I play video games primarily at night.

2) Parks are closed at night (blame therapists).

3) Parks suck, compared to true wilderness.

Take a hike, because I already took mine.

I came here to post this. I got past that water level with the jumping fish. I can't remember how much further though. Never beat the game after 15 years of trying. Also...
i77.photobucket.com
Never beat this game either. I'm 22 and I've been playing this game since I was 5.

The COD4 level was annoying as hell. The only way I beat it was to hide behind a tree behind the ferris wheel playing on hardened.
