South Bend, Indiana already has an artificial course. http://pages.ripco.net/~jwn/southbend.html

I wonder if they think it was a sound investment?

Just what we need...a NASCAR/rafting hybrid. Oh well at least the crashes would be more interesting.

2002-11-19 02:17:04 PM
I've been hearing about this for the past couple of years. Basically, it's just a day resort with conference rooms and more civilization than the real thing. I'm sure I'll go once it's opened.

One of the best things about it is the swift water rescue training it'll provide in a secure environment.

I still don't think it'll beat the Watauga, though.

I've said it once and I'll say it again: Charlotte is a stupid city. Stupid, stupid, stupid, stupid, stupid, stupid, stupid, stupid, stupid, stupid, stupid, stupid, stupid, stupid, stupid. Stupid.

To SDM-292.11:
You tell 'em! The only place with more morons is Chapel Hill!

"I've said it once and I'll say it again: Charlotte is a stupid city. Stupid, stupid, stupid, stupid, stupid, stupid, stupid, stupid, stupid, stupid, stupid, stupid, stupid, stupid, stupid. Stupid."
I've never been, but unless the place has no women or Boobies to speak of, it can't be a total loss, is it ?

Wouldn't Hillary be the perfect person to dedicate a "Whitewater" park?

2002-11-19 02:29:48 PM
Oh yes, the Slick Willie Rapids. Ride and get a free Cigar.

2002-11-19 02:34:21 PM
It really can't be said often enough: Charlotte blows in ways you never thought possible....

2002-11-19 02:38:27 PM
I assume they are just going to have class 2 and 3 rapids ... anything more than that and the the dead bodies will mount up.

2002-11-19 02:40:03 PM
Nothing like a Charlotte article to bring out the NC Farkers...all we need now is WickedWanda and fivesmallstars and we will have a full set.

Ok, refresh THEN post.

2002-11-19 02:42:02 PM
heh. I love how 1/3 to 1/2 of the budget comes from public funds. *sigh*

2002-11-19 02:42:49 PM
Heaven forbid world class kayakers drive a few hours up the road to Richmond, Virginia. Where they have natural class 4 and 5 rapids running right through downtown Richmond.

2002-11-19 02:49:05 PM
The park is expected to draw 304,500 visitors a year.

Isn't there something strange about this number? Wouldn't it seem more normal to just say 300,000?

Whitewater?
White -trash-, maybe, but not whitewater.

(I'm allowed to say that 'cuz I live here.)

2002-11-19 02:56:50 PM
Hey wrestlegirl, do you need a manager/valet?

2002-11-19 02:56:51 PM
i have been involved with whitewater sports for about 10 years. this is a great idea until the novelity of the sport dies off. dont waste the money. like RandomRandom said,it's just a short drive to some great natural rivers

2002-11-19 02:58:22 PM
So, what are people's favorite whitewater rivers? I have done the South Fork of the American River in California, the Dead River in Maine, and the Nenana River in Alaska.

In my opinion, the American River was the best of the three. I have also heard good things about the Kern River in California as well.

2002-11-19 03:02:01 PM
the Gauley River- W.V.

2002-11-19 03:02:45 PM

2002-11-19 03:03:28 PM
I have rafted on the New River (2 times - big rafts) and on the Nolichucky (once - single person raft). I'm looking forward to the upper Gauley after I get into better shape.

2002-11-19 03:09:42 PM
If only 304,499 people show up do they go under?

Are you offering or just curious?
*I* don't need one, but I can't speak for the guys & gals I work with.

2002-11-19 03:10:35 PM
And of course, the Charles River up here in Boston. Oh, wait a minute, that's brownwater. In a few more years, it will actually be clean enough to touch.

2002-11-19 03:11:04 PM
::grab helmet:: Sweet! Somewhere new to get wet. Any word on costs?

And, yes Rumbleminz. West Virgina does rock. But my favorite stream so far has been the Snake River. Ahh.. Sweet Lunchcounter, I hardly knew ye.

I've wanted to work in the business for many years but only as a mouthpiece with the occasional bump. Email me and I'll get in touch...

My fav? The Colorado.

Just need to remove that chunk of concrete in Glen Canyon, and it'll be even better.

You guys that think Charlotte is the stupidest city ever obviously have been living under a rock.

Drop me a line, I've wanted to get into the business as a mouthpiece for many years.

Oh, and I like the Nantahala and French Broad rivers to go rafting. For sea kayaking though, nothing beats the Pamlico River in easten NC. No rapids but 4 miles across and beautiful scenery.

Now Wrestlegirl, I suppose since you live in Charlotte, it's safe to say you are included in the White Trash population?

2002-11-19 04:05:39 PM
Why the hell Charlotte? There are some great rapids a few hours West in the smokies.

I lived just northeast of Charlotte (Concord/Harrisburg area to be exact) for 9 years and I have to admit, it sucked. Of course that was like 6 years ago, but I highly doubt Cabarrus and Mecklenburg Counties improved that much. Charlotte sucks.

The attitude toward "fur-ners" (ie those who were not born/raised there) was horrible, and if you didn't attend the weekly 'Church of NASCAR' meetings, or didnt have your favorite God of NASCAR, you were pretty much up a creek.

2002-11-19 04:39:04 PM
I guess the folks in Charlotte are just hoping our recent droughts won't continue. I'd love to see people in the area biatch as they can't water their lawns, but some park up the road uses millions of gallons a day.

Charlotte is much better than Cats. I will see it again and again...

The nightlife in Charlotte is getting better though.

There's more butch lesbians per block in Gastonia than in all of San Francisco.

All of the Charlotte area is scary. I may have been born here, but I'm really just on my way to someplace else. Damn this Atlanta-wannabe town.

As a resident of Forest City, NC (70 miles west of Charlotte), I would like to declare that we seek to secede from the Carolinas and become the province known as "Southern Canada".

Seriously though, Charlotte sucks so much that I avoid the city like the plague.

2002-11-20 07:48:39 AM
I guess this is as good a time as any to announce I'm working on a fark party for Charlotte in spring 2003, anyone interested in attending or helping out drop me a line...
