Do you know the muffin man. The muffin man, do you now him?

You know who else knew the muffin man?

Neither do I, but he probably had enough sense to read the FAQ and do his test-posting in the appropriate threads.

LordJiro: Is Hitler the new Kevin Bacon?

There was a story a few weeks back about connecting Hitler to each of the presidential candidates. It went into all sorts of lovely detail about the six-degrees process, and included the nifty fact that presidents and world leaders, living or dead, have far more connections than even Kevin Bacon.

One day, some woman will research her long-dead grandfather, and be horrified that he was a conservative Republican Bush supporter who agreed with the Iraq War.

Heh. I found out my great grandfather (who was actually alive until I was about 9) was a fairly high ranking member of the northeastern KKK during it's resurgence in the 20s and 30s. My mother found his robes in the attic and a manual, presumably for my great grandmother, on how to be a "good Klansman's wife."

An artist friend of mine was very proud (and boastful) to be the subject of a TV documentary. It was about his style, influences and background etc.

It would have been a boring arty program - until a researcher found out that his German grandfather was in the SS.

He was mortified, everyone else could barely conceal their delight.

Big deal. Everybody's family tree has whackos, lunatics, perverts, murderers, rapists, racists, traitors, Republicans and other assorted scumbags in it. You don't get to choose your ancestry. All you can do is rise above their asshattery.

I wonder, after November, or, I should say January of 2009, when the Democrats control both houses of congress by even bigger margins, and when you have a Democratic president, and NOTHING really changes, who are you farking lunatics going to blame then?

I'm a Libertarian, so I get to laugh at both of the major parties, but don't you people have anything better to do than try to bring Bush bashing/I hate Republican posts into every single farking thread? Especially a thread about a woman in in another farking country.

Excen, don't think you are getting a free pass either. While I can't stand hippies, I think even idiots like Corn_Fed will admit that they aren't fans of Sharia law. You all need to lighten up.

Non-story. Back in the 20s and 30s Fascism was quite fashionable in the world. Many countries in Europe were fascist, and even in most other countries it wasn't uncommon for many people to be fond of fascist ideas. That was changed by WW2, of course.

My wife's mother did some geneology research and discovered they're direct descendants of one of the executed Salem Witches. I can't remember offhand her name, but I remember it being a short one.

I used to do genealogical research. I had one client who wanted his whole tree done. I had 200 pages of good documentation for him. He threw it all out because, get this, his German ancestry turned out to be German-Jewish ancestry! On top of that, he tried to talk me into giving it another go. As if, you know, I could somehow change it!

A family friend was in Hitler Youth as a child. His father was a huge Nazi. We're not our fathers.

Heck I knew someone who was in the 9th SS Panzer division. He was (he's dead now) good friends with a WWII vet who fought in the Battle of the Bulge. We're not even who we were when we were 20.

Ahh, thanks for proving my point about the ignorance of the supporters of the major parties. Let me guess, you are a member of the party that claims to support diversity of views and opinions. . . as long as those opinions exactly support your own.

I'm constantly thankful that that chapter in our our life is almost over. My grandparents are still biased against the japanese because of pearl harbor and the resulting war. My grandfather was B2 Gunner in WW2, and I can't blame him for his views.

I can't say I look forward to his passing, but I look forward to a more neutral world view as a general consensus.
