VicRoads regional director Steve Brown said the stunt was illegal and unsafe.

illegal? well duh. that's half the fun of tagging. got anything else, romero?

unsafe? ....dude. get over yourself. the viewer may chuckle, or he may begrudge a puritanical attitude toward the sign, but if a single misfortune occurs because someone couldn't discern the sign's original intent, i'll eat this keyboard.

I love the kangaroo one , I giggle like a schoolgirl when I see it ( If your from Perth it's going towards the city near the Whitfords exit )

I have told only a few about it as I'm afraid it will be taken down/souveniered but now the secrets out !!!

no, it's just that the original head wore a police officer's cap. there's another version of this updated sign floating around, this is the first time i've seen this knock-off with the tape over it.

TheJoe03: And some say graffiti/tagging isn't art!

I'd never say that, sometimes it is awesome. But it isn't always.
My only objection to it is that it is often done on public property in a way that does not exactly enhance the way it looks. I don't necessarily think that people have the right to draw all over shiat that isn't theirs. I do, however, like when the city sets aside places for taggers to come and paint and create murals and stuff. I've seen some very cool examples.

WFern: ulp, i was wrong about the officer's hat. barring that, i'll assume it means pedestrians in general.

i'm not sure what the tape on that other one is for.

We had a douchebag kid on campus who we caught with a "Speed Hump" sign above his bed. I laughed the entire time I was arresting him for possession of stolen property. He didn't find it as funny. To this day, I chuckle when I see those signs.

Why is it that I never give half a crap about anything that I read about in Australia unless it involves a kangaroo? And the same goes for anything from England. If it isnt a story about bad teeth, I just don't care.

Ages ago I had a stop sign on the inside of my exterior door -- intended to remind me to check that I had everything before leaving, etc. Unfortunately it was visible through the window from the sidewalk. After the second cop pounded on my door about it ready* to arrest me, I taped the receipt to the back of it showing that I'd purchased it legally.

It was a drag the first time; even though the name of the sign company was on it rather than "____ DPW" it was still assumed that I'd stolen it from private property. Never got an apology for the arrest after I produced the receipt in court.

I eventually outgrew the "road signs as decor" thing, thankfully.

(*) The second time I knew where the receipt was, at least, and was allowed to dig it out for the cop. He was actually nice and apologized for the bother.

In their defense, neither the cops nor most other people find STOP sign theft at all amusing - due to the high chance of causing a traffic accident if a sign is removed. But no, it's not illegal to privately own one.

Sure outrail , just look for the signs on the left hand side when your reaching the Whitfords exit heading towards Perth, once you see it you'll never want to miss it !!
