It must be nice to feel that someone cares for you, even if it is a total stranger. I'm guessing that it's often easier to accept help from someone you don't know because the offer feels more genuine. They're helping because they want to, not because they feel they have to because of any previous relationship.

Great, he's kept 144 worthless Commies in the world to drag the rest of us down.

Do yourself, and the rest of the Capitalist world, a favor and go ahead and jump off with the next person you see.

I know a guy who works the emergency rescue boats to catch jumpers. Sometimes they save 'em, sometimes they can't.

He does it because Rescue Boat workers get their own slip and he had just bought a boat.

"If every OTHER Chinaman was jumping off a bridge, would you do it to?"

"Maybe. If every other Chiman man already jumped, I'd have a really soft landing...."

But an hour later, he wanted to save 144 more.

What the fark is he doing? Doesn't he know that China has a population problem?

/I keed.

I wonder if any of the people he encountered were big enough jerks that he actually changed his mind and started to egg them on.

"Sir! Sir! You get down from bridge!"
"I have no reason to rive. My wife cheat on me. I rose job. My penis sooooooo tiny. I kirr myserf."
"Don' do it! You have much to rive for!"

Doesn't China have a population problem? Doesn't really seem like the type of behavior to be discouraging. If fact in the US, we should just dig a really deep hole behind the doors to every OCB. That would solve our obesity problem.

Sometimes saving a suicidal person isn't a good idea. Just ask Mr. Incredible.

while SchlingFo was obcviously being sarcastic, and in general, saving lives is great, wannabe suiciders (of any persuasion) should just be allowed to jump. they are the only group of people more useless than those with 'eating disorders'.

You know, I seem to recall that the Chinese believe that when you save a persons life, you are responsible for any actions they take after. So if you save a person who later commits murder, the victims blood is on your hands.

So where is the follow up on the other 143 he saved to see if they are still alive or did they just find another method?
(144 saved - 1 new best friend mentioned in the article = 143 saved and unaccounted for)

The sad part is living is countries were freedom and civil rights are not practiced will become depressing enough to want to kill yourself.

It was happening in East Germany and Soviet Union but the gov't would hide the stats.

Still shocking that the IOC allowed China to host the Olympic Games.

Lumber Jack Off: SchlingFo

$20 says the keyboard you used to make that comment was made in china.

yeah, but someone who hates China doesn't look at that as a plus for China - they'd rather pay more for it to be made here in the us.

Who else however, suspects that when something is made in China, it doesn't really get much cheaper for you or I, and the companies are pocketing the savings for the most part?

That being said, none of that is the fault of the average Chinese person, so such venom by the troll who started it is unwarranted.

I'd give it a 3/10 because they got some bites, but it is such an obvious troll post as opposed to an actual view that I too think it can only get a 2...better luck next time, or better yet, don't bother.

Mimic_Octopus: while SchlingFo was obcviously being sarcastic, and in general, saving lives is great, wannabe suiciders (of any persuasion) should just be allowed to jump. they are the only group of people more useless than those with 'eating disorders'.

A suicider may be mentally weak and all that. But remember, many of them didn't start out that way. They are fathers, mothers, sisters, sons, daughters, friends and lovers. Many people who have attempted suicide and failed, got help and went on to live truely good lives that did in fact benifit those around them.

Perhaps you are aware of that and simply don't care, but I don't like to see people paint with such a large brush...

It may be tempting to sit there and feel superior to them because you have the strenght to face your problems, but most of us will not experience the pain that drives some of the most depressed suicides to commit the act. Again, most of us. Now is killing themselves the correct solution? Fark no!
When someone commits suicide, they leave a hole in the world, for all but the most isolated individuals, they leave behind a legacy of pain and guilt. Do they suck a little bit for checking out, while leaving that kind of baggage? Perhaps, but the world is certianly not better off with them dead, it would be better off it they weren't suicidal to begin with.
The most valid criticism of suicide is what it leaves behind, so the solution is to stop them, not to say the world is better off with em dead.

I'll put it this way. If yer upset that they are copping out, forcing them to face their life and it's responsibilituies is more functional than wishing they go off somewhere and quietly die.

Besides, to an atheist suicide isn't it's own punishment - in fact suicide is no longer the problem of the suicider - they have no opinion, no guilt, no nothing one way or other at that point.

Chaghatai

that was such a measured and considerate response that I would feel guilty and disrespectful to elaborate on my opinion regarding this matter. (and i spent 4 years working inpatient at a psych ward so I have some real experience with it, good & bad). i hope you have a good day !
