There's nothing like returning benevolence with hostility.

Dude, I robbed Goodwill once. I got a sweet vintage polyester shirt for just $3.

2008-05-05 11:45:11 AM
Since when is robbing goodwill new??

2008-05-05 11:46:40 AM
They've got some good stuff there. I once bought a child at Goodwill for $13.50.

Florida, making even Katrina refugees blush with shame.

Robbing Goodwill of $6 and then jumping in an SUV that cost well more than $6 just to drive to Goodwill? Priceless.

2008-05-05 11:47:33 AM
I once bought a 15" monitor from goodwill for $8, it had the windows 2000 login dialog burnt into the screen. I burnt their shop down as revenge

The manager ran to the Chinese restaurant next door

They sell food next to a place that smells like wour milk and homeless people who peed themselves. This disturbs me.

They didn't have a phone?

tripperday "The manager ran to the Chinese restaurant next door and called police, Coyne said."

They didn't have a phone?

If only there was a place they could get a used phone, really cheap...

Why would you do that? They put all of their "good" stuff online anyway (unless they don't recognize it as good).

Heamer: They've got some good stuff there. I once bought a child at Goodwill for $13.50.

That's not what they meant when they said that little boy's pants were half-off.

Lost_Thought: Since when is robbing goodwill new??

Since we're in a recession. All bad things are now the fault of the recession. You'll see a few of these every week until the economy picks up again. We should be getting the poor people are stealing gas because of the recession headlines any day now. I think they have to wait a couple weeeks before they can blame the poor people stealing metal stuff for scrap on the recession.

Goodwill's law in action.

No one was in hurt during the robbery, which occurred about 6:20 p.m.

Well, that's good to know.

FTFA --
the robber stole the drawer from the cash register, ran out the back door and escaped in a SUV, Coyne said.

I think that this says more about Florida than it does about the economy.

/I also think that subby may have a political axe to grind.

Why didn't he just dumpster dive into the donation boxes or snag stuff dropped off for donation over the weekend, like a normal person?

2008-05-05 11:52:45 AM
Won't someone please think of the retards?

2008-05-05 11:53:52 AM
I just stopped at a church rummage sale this weekend, and was told that workers watched people walk out with shopping bags full of items without paying. Scary.

/It's all by design.... The smells tend to attract tonight's menu specials (psst... it's not chicken)

Wow. I know people like the Florida tag, but this makes the SAD tag sadder.

When I was in high school I used to go to goodwill and change out my old shoes with goodwill shoes that were in slightly better condition. Free shoe exchange is one service that goodwill doesn't advertise...or know about.

Fluff Girl: That's not what they meant when they said that little boy's pants were half-off.

The best thing is, when you're done with him, you can just donate the clothes back to Goodwill.

Is this like the rediscovery of homelessness when Bush took office?

I'm mean I know I live in an Ivory tower but is the economy that bad. I know we are or heading into a recession. But what is the current unemployment rate? Last time I checked there was still a large line at all the star bucks in the suburbs and huge crowds at the bars on a friday night. Maybe I start appreciating the fact that the economy sucks when we start looking like a third world country. Until then go out and buy more $2 cups of coffee!!

2008-05-05 12:03:59 PM
It's not the economy. Florida is full of retards and morans. We get the castoffs from other states.

Florida's been a third world country for a long time, DbM.

Goodwills in Illinois are mostly in newish custom-built facilities with wide aisles and smell fine. Salvation Army stores, on the other hand, are usually in low-rent nearly-abandoned buildings and filled with tons of merchandise and people, both of which smell.

Goodwill Hunting

2008-05-05 12:10:16 PM
Goodwill can be pretty neat at times. I just got a new TI89 calculator for $4, instead of the normal $150 it costs and I put new materials on old chairs I pick up for $10-20 and then go on and sell them for $200-400. Most the time its full of beat up junk however.

2008-05-05 12:10:26 PM
I just donated a bunch of old crap to goodwill this very weekend- I hope to see some of my old clothes on my vintage neighbors any day now

2008-05-05 12:14:21 PM
I still have to wait in line at the steak resteraunt. I haven't seen less than a 20 minute wait at IHOP in months. It must be the economy!!! People have to eat overpriced pancakes...damn that president.

Bastards. The goodwill in Austin confiscates all of the vintage gaming equipment and sells it from one store at a premium.

Tucson Region
Man robs Goodwill employee
Fired a shot, ordered worker to the ground
arizona daily star
Tucson, Arizona | Published: 02.12.2008

Tucson Police are looking for a man who robbed a Goodwill employee at gunpoint and took an undisclosed amount of money Monday afternoon.

The robbery occurred just before 2:30 p.m. as the employee left the store at 1770 S. Cherrybell Stravenue, at East Silverlake Road, said Sgt. Mark Robinson, a Tucson Police Department spokesman.

He was preparing to take the money to the bank to deposit it when a man in a ski mask came out of the desert and fired a shot, Robinson said. The employee was not struck, but he was ordered to the ground, at which time the robber took the money.
The gunman was last seen running west from the business wearing the black ski mask, a white long-sleeved shirt and jeans, Robinson said.

A helicopter was sent out to search for the man, along with police dogs who searched on the ground, Robinson said.
The robber was not found. Police ask that anyone with information call 911 or 88-CRIME, the anonymous tip line of the Pima County Attorney's Office.

Goodwill is a complete scam and ripoff, and everyone knows it but yet they still go there.

THEY GET THEIR PRODUCT FOR FREE. Not only that, but they make it seem like you are doing the right thing by giving them your FREE stuff.

2008-05-05 12:26:36 PM
I had to do a "teach them the error of their ways" program once. I brainfarted and walked off with a book I'd been reading on break. Since I left the store with it and they were watching the department because of another guy, they popped me for shoplifting.

There was a woman there looking down her nose at all of us scumbags (half the people there had stories like mine -- one guy was there for bouncing a check), and it finally came out that she'd robbed a Goodwill. She went in, got a couple of things, then decided she really wanted some more stuff, so she loaded her pockets. Best part: when she described the reaction of the cashier when the door buzzer went off as "and she was MEAN to me!!"

But of course. Whenever something good happens, it's always because of the current administration. Likewise, when something bad happens, it's always the fault of the previous administration. Doubly so if they're from a different party.

This isn't new at all. I lived in Utah in the early 1990s. The LDS Church runs a chain of stores just like Goodwill, called Deseret Industries. They were closed on Sundays, but people would take their stuff down there and just leave it for the workers to sort through on Monday morning. You could always find people sifting through that stuff on Sunday afternoons, taking whatever they wanted.

Yeah, those bastards. How dare they charge just enough to cover overhead while keeping tons of stuff out of our landfills and helping the needy. Those fatcats down at goodwill are gonna get what's coming to them.

Meh. Some people are in denial because they see things through rosie glasses. Others are in denial because they wrongly think Bush is responsible for the prosperity of the past seven years and therefore is a scapegoat for a few minor economic problems, such as $9 trillion in debt and $6 trillion in evaporating home equity.

Fact is that he really doesn't deserve either the congratulations or blame of the economic downfall we're approaching. It's not political because the numbers do not lie.

Pretty much this.

For all the people that want to blame Bush for the collapsing housing market, it might satisfy their curiosity to point out that it was Clinton that approved the merging of investor banks with mortgage lenders and allowed house-buying to become a speculative market. Just sayin'.

They help the needy? The only thing they do is maybe give them a part time job at minimum wage. They aren't the Salvation Army.

Goodwill is a thrift racket, evil bastards.

(except the one in Denton which my friend ran the counter and I could go get a freaking bear hug load of clothes and she'd charge me [with a serious straight face] like $5 for the whole load, pure greatness but alas those days are over)

Now THRIFT TOWN and GARLAND ROAD THRIFT is the new hotness!!!

2008-05-05 12:51:42 PM
They wouldn't return my money after I bought a suit from them that didn't fit well.

Some nerve to call themselves "Goodwill."

2008-05-05 12:53:49 PM
That's highly unoriginal. Robbers robbed my local Goodwill store once before and my town is poor, high poverty, and unemployed or even underemployed. Yet some people in my area make a great living selling drugs.

/Bill Clinton did a great job boosting our economy, not.

2008-05-05 12:54:40 PM
At our local Goodwill, if they catch you shoplifting you get a $50 gift certificate. They figure if you are shoplifting from Goodwill, you need it.
