Show me where I was being a hyperbolic dick.

Ok:

There is nothing like the deniers that would throw there McDonald's wrapper out just to spite eveybody else. I swear, you guys buy hundreds of spray cans just be dicks, don't you?

and as a clarification you offered this:

Yeah, JQ, that isn't quite what I meant. I wasn't clear. You are just tossing your garbage wherever you feel like tossing it. Out the window, on the road, wherever...it is what you guys do. And then you have some huge grudge against those that say that might not be good for the earth.

And make sure you are not doing the same.

Oh I'm sure I will at some point, but the key is to at least attempt to make it somewhat amusing so people will realize that the hyperbole isn't intended to be taken 100% seriously. That and if you're funny people don't seem to care if you're being a prick.

JQ is absolutely wrong. He is all for littering and in a larger sense, pollution. But you attack me. That is kinda weird to me.

You were implying that anyone who didn't agree that global warming is a huge crisis that requires drastic action irregardless of the consequences to our economy is someone who hates the earth, animals and clean air. People who love animals and prefer their air transparent tend to take offense to things like that.

Sabyen91: but you claimed I was something like a vegan and ID like. It was bullshiat.

ok...maybe not that bad.

This topic is kind of a sore spot for me and the main reason I usually only luck in these threads. I've tried discussing it and and asking questions are reading the 50 million links that get posted and no matter what I say I end up getting called a hippie or some neo-con PNAC member.

I'm not thin skinned, Ive been flamed many times and called much worse, but it gets old. Just look at the exchange so far...you guys had a verbal back and forth that just boiled down to name calling and JUST now are you guys talking about the issue( and find out there's a tiny bit of common ground).

I wasn't "attacking" you. but its a topic Ive always been interested in, but the politics are staring to annoying me. especially since politics shouldn't be a factor.

Actually, I was talking about littering but you are right. Murk and Log somehow think this is a bad thing that I think it is a bad thing that people do whatever they can to avoid helping clean up the earth. I know that is not your point but I love me some animals and air. It is interesting that I have never seen them attack people who are against it like they are me.

Good grief, man. I was being sarcastic. The comment about, "litter belongs on the ground," is facetious. Asserting that those people who do not accept global warming as nothing more than a bunch of "extreme righties" driving around in their big smoky steampunk cars, listening to Rush Limbaugh, whilst throwing heaps of McDonald's food wrappers out their windows is hysterical (and inaccurate).

Hmm, I would say it probably is. With simple "voluntary levels" I would think that corps would push as far as they could.

because I want to know about the things I posted at 2008-05-04 03:54:03 AM. If someone latched on to y questions and used them to say "see! No mays GW is realz!" then I would have "attacked" them.

I just dont see this as a black and white issue like ID/evolution is. There's plenty of legit questions and criticisms IMO. But when they are brought up, even in a non...uh...aggressive way, the poster is usually labeled as a denier.

Thats as clear as I can make my thoughts on the subject.

2008-05-04 06:13:19 AM
By the way, folks, I apologize if I was using hyperbole to support my argument. I am sick to death of righties and their "belief" that everything is ok. Everything is not ok. We are farking up the environment AND the economy.

2008-05-04 06:14:52 AM
Sabyen91,

No need to apologize.

Failing_Junk,

The air quality in the U.S. is probably improving. There are many factors in this. EPA regulations would have something to do with this. But also the fact that many of our more polluting industries have merely moved out of the country to avoid some of the stricter EPA laws, say moved to Mexico, and China.

You say that it isn't clear cut like ID/evolution. Most scientists disagree. Most scientists think GW is real and humans have a hand in it.

I have zero doubt that people are dumping HUGE amounts of CO2 and other green house gases into the atmosphere.
I have zero doubt that people are affecting the climate in a bad way.

I have some doubt that climate models are accurate for 100 years from now.
I have some doubt that we know people are the only or mostly the cause of global warming
I have some doubt that the current global warming theory will remain mostly intact 30 years from now.
I have some doubt that the environment is really the leading reason many nations want the the US to cut emissions but China gets a pass.

maybe those will get called red herrings, but its not intentional. And I'm very open to my "doubts" being completely wrong.

I tried constructive. Constructive didn't seem to be working very well so I decided to go with being blunt. Harsh? Yes. Necessary? Arguable. Fun? Abso-farking-lutely*.

*The above is a joke. Jokes can sometimes stimulate laughter or result in smiles. Those who do not have a sense of humour should avoid jokes at all costs. Please consult with a beer before processing the joke as it won't be for everyone.

Usually that's because the person has a history of posting the same things over and over despite having their questions answered in other threads. Think "Obama's never accomplished anything!" or "Nobody's been able to prove that evolution is real" only in an AGW related format. It may come off a bit harsh to a newcomer, but you can only treat these things as existing in a vaccuum before you get fed up with having the same people play ignorant in every thread.

I tend to believe the consensus among scientists. It is not quite as sure as evolution but it is close. And even if it didn't turn out to be true if we did all we could to reduce pollution and create as healthy a society as we could it could not be a negative. I find anti-enviro people to be extremely ridiculously arrogant and selfish and I treat them that way.

I agree and fully understand that, and thats why I took to lurking in these threads. I don't want to get lumped into that group or become guilty by association because I asked a question that sounds similar to some troll's talking point.

Think of it this way, it's better to be harshly critiqued by friends than ridiculed and ignored by enemies. At least the former has a chance to motivate change where as the other will just piss you off.

Okay, seriously. I've been simply lurking, wanting to see funny shark pics, right? "Suck my diiiick, I'm a shaaark!", stuff like that.

I made the mistake of reading this. And honestly? Sabyen91, I have to say that you are, without a doubt, not ready for Fark. Until you can learn to A) figure out sarcasm and satire, B) take it as well as you dish it out, and C) NEVER EVER expect an apology from anyone here (and if you do, don't ever POST that you expect one), you need to keep lurking and not post for awhile. Occasionally, maybe you can handle a snarky comment or two in the latest Tibbets thread, or maybe you should try your hand a Photoshopping. But until you learn some nuances and how things tend to work around here, please, read. Learn. Evolve.

/Sorry folks.

Sabyen91: ...And even if it didn't turn out to be true if we did all we could to reduce pollution and create as healthy a society as we could it could not be a negative.

So, you're ok with being lied to, as long as it's for some greater good? In that case, we can justify all sorts of bullshiat as a necessary canard to help the fools help themselves. Let's contrive a cancer link to get rid of fast food. Let's conjure WMD's in Iraq to bolster the larger war on terror. (O.K., that one happened - and I'm sure you're not bitter about it because the INTENTIONS of those in control were good)

You are looking for credit for having noble intentions -which feel good and entail no personal sacrifice. But it's results that matter, not intentions.
