I watched the video and I can't see as how anyone could even determine any damage they may have done. The place is barely even a shell...

I also didn't see them kicking out any floorboards or using a hammer to damage a wall... I only actually saw them break one thing, and it appeared to be a loose piece of scrap wood or something.

Sure, the kid did pee inside, but c'mon... that place is probably wall-to-wall rat turds and cat piss. Urine was NOT going to damage anything in that building.

The dumbest most potentially destructive thing I saw them do was one kid pitching a lit cigarette away... The place is probably a tinder-box with all that rotten old wood.

But, there was no fire... so even that wasn't destructive.

I love to whip myself up into a self-righteous rage over a good "rotten punks" story as much as anyone, and hate it when their antics are chalked up to "kids being kids," but in this case... I'd say that's all it is.

I know when I was a teen, a hell of a lot of people I knew would have been a hell of a lot more destructive then these kids were.

Charge 'em with trespassing, give 'em a slap on the wrist and call it a day.

I'd be more concerned with why the city has maintained an 'attractive nuisance' for 23 years without either restoring, demolishing, or completely securing it.

Grey Street: Bourgeois Construct and NY Nutmegger

Bethel, huh? Did you guys go to Bethel High?

/Class of 2001
//Also far from surprised there are punks this dumb in the area

BHS class of '96 checking in.

Its good to see that the "tuffs" from Ridgefield are getting their comeupons.

/someone needs to post that picture of the two white kids posing hard in front of their tricked out rice rockets throwing gang signs.
//thats pretty representative of "hardcore" Ridgefield teens.

Hey. Whoa. Did not expect to see anything from my neck o'the woods around here. Nothing happens around there.

/not from Danbury
//tiny tiny town nearby, so the answer to "where are you from" is "Near Danbury... if you've heard of that."
///Shepaug sucked!

it's a worthless abandoned house. I don't think the kids did any more to raise the renovation costs.

For those too lazy to watch the video, (or afraid it might be a RickRoll) here's some frame grabs...

This one is from the bottom floor shooting up towards the roof.

This one is some kid try to cross the remains of a wall or something.

Here's the kid peeing.

Is it really even possible to "vandalize" garbage?

(and as I said, I didn't see them destroying anything on the video... I don't know where the stuff in the article about kicking out floorboards or hammering out a wall came from.)

They were just exploring... My friends and I would have done it too. Hell, I'd probably still do it.

My wife is from meriden. When heading over to chesire from her place, i always see this big ass castle looking thing up on a hill in the distance. Is this the same place?

Wow... and according to this page (new window), a couple was actually living in it as of 1987 until they were forced to move out.

So seemingly, the city bought a viable, livable property, put a fence around it, and let it fall to utter shiat for 23 years.

Your tax dollars at work.

I went to Newtown High, but played hockey for Shepaug for a two years (94-95) before having to play at Bethel for my senior season (96).

I am guessing the tiny town is Bridgewater. The whole Shepaug area (Breidgewater, Washington, Roxbury)is great for road biking, if nothing else. Shepaug may have sucked, but at least it was not Wamogo!

Oh, it was definitely a very beautiful area. Not terribly exciting though, with almost as many cows as people. ;) And true, very glad it was not Wamogo!

I had a couple friends who went to Newtown High, but I think they graduated a while after you.

Ah, small-town CT.

I'm guessing from where you're talking about, you're seeing Castle Craig (should pop) -- I'm pretty sure you can't see Danbury from the highway there.

Cornwell: I'm wont say that the internet has been farking things up for idiots. I'll rather say that the internet has become a rather helpful channel and catalyst for the stupidity of poeple intent on farking up lately.

THIS

I've seen underage drinking, underage nudity, drinking in the dorms (illegal at my school) and drug use on Facebook photo albums alone. And these are just people I know.

/I have since condemned these activities and people
//and swore I wasn't in church that day

Looked to me like just some teenaged boys doing what teenaged boys do, which is have stupid, dangerous fun for laughs. At that age, there's a lot of testosterone building in boys with no real outlet available. You have to do something. It amazes me how many of you out there have forgotten what it's like to be that age. Goofing like that is way better than the more violent/aggressive alternatives available. Sure, sometimes someone gets hurt, but lessons and limitations are learned that way. It's not like they were shooting people.

/OK now, everyone get back to your GTA IV, nothing to see here.

Kids do these kinda things, thats not suprising. Went to WCSU, not far from this place. Daddy will still buy their way into harvard and yale

Why? People aren't any stupider than they used to be. You're just hearing about it more.

/'cuz stupid people didn't used to video themselves and post the video.
//but they would have if they could have.
///'cuz they were stupid.

Anyone know if that case in Flordia where the 6 skanks beat that other girl has been updated? Couldn't find anything new about it, but it's been a while.

2008-05-02 08:48:34 PM
Yeah, this basically seems like a lot of moral indignation from people with nothing better to do. If the city cared about the place they would have made it a public museum with interesting stuff in it. Sure, these kids are losers but... let them have their fun... why not? Maybe people will actually renovate the place and turn it into something positive as a result but... I doubt it.

/Americans get upset about stupid things like this while people starve to death.... oh, the huge manatee.

At least stupid kids have evolved (or maybe devolved depending on how you look at it) their stupid activities to include ways in which they are stupidly caught. Further proving just how stupid they are.
